Aish herself reveals here that Mani Ratnam masterly plans for his 2-part movie to intrigue the audience to its best. So though part 1 is already a treat, we're really eager for part 2 for where the magic is.
If there was enough hype there wouldn’t be interviews made with aishwarya rai and rehman. This movie on first look looks like a cheap rip-off Baahubali.Eventhough that was a rip-off(although well-made) multitude of hollywood movies like troy,benhur and 300 etc.

Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan is definitely one of those novels that defines a culture. Authentically rooted in the land and its ethos, created by Tamilians who define their contemporary culture. I will definitely go and see it on a big screen (maybe IMAX?) in Tamil. And I am sure I will not only be enthralled by the grandeur and technical wizardry but by strong, rooted storytelling as well. Positives: 1.Ratnam seems to have shot two parts, being so light hearted . Credit shall go to Suhasini. 2. Rahman being so vivacious about Ratnam, never seen so excited about a project. Credit to Ratnam and Saira Banu. 3. Aishwarya being so humble and accommodative of these two legends keeping aside her own legendary stature. Credit to the Bachan's family and Abhishek to keep her as beautiful as ever besides her parents .
Agree with 1 and 2. but credit to ARB's late father krishnaraj rai and mother vrinda rai not the bachchans. They came much much later after she was already a legend having broken so many glass ceilings with her ingrained elegance.
Seeing this interview, I just re-watched the trailer and OMG i must say the VFX work is just amazing just looking at how well they have tucked Aishwarya back to her original beauty.

Kalki's Ponniyin Selvan is definitely one of those novels that defines a culture. Authentically rooted in the land and its ethos, created by Tamilians who define their contemporary culture. I will definitely go and see it on a big screen (maybe IMAX?) in Tamil. And I am sure I will not only be enthralled by the grandeur and technical wizardry but by strong, rooted storytelling as well.
