THE STRANGER is one of those albums with solid gold from start to finish. GETTING OUT, VIENNA WAITS FOR YOU, THE STRANGER. The list goes on. Billy Joel was trained as a classical music composer before becoming a pop/ rock star. Elton John and Billy Joel are, without a doubt, the best pianists of the rock era. Piano Man, New York State of Mind, Uptown Girl, Allentown, Always A Woman. A huge catalog.
From "The Stranger" album, which is a classic. This is one of Billy's best songs. Sad that this kind of music is no longer made. So glad I grew up in this era.
It's sad how even native speakers have been conditioned to not listen to lyrics anymore, so that the only part of a well told story, that actually remains in their heads is... some saxophone and a few oh-oh's. Thanks, Kanye.
If you're going to do Billy Joel , you need to do "the longest time" (filmclip) - but remember when you watch it that he did all the vocals except the bass!
I love your channel ever since I subscribed at least a few months ago, but saying that we all know Samantha because she's so beautiful just seems a little odd to me, like she's only on here for that reason. And as much as I like your reactions, and I really do, I can tell that you are really engaged and they are insightful for sure, I actually like her brief part of the reactions even more. She says more in fewer words and she is always just so observant and spot-on. It's like she always just naturally fully gets it.
This is an amazing live performance, but the studio/album version is FIRE as well.
If I had to choose just one song written by Billy Joel, I would choose this one.
Mr. Joel is currently in residence at Madison Square Garden (NYC for those not from the area) and has been for several years, every weekend to sell out crowds who sing along with him, word for word. Sadly I read this will end this summer. Also, sadly there are at least 3 generations who, like you, have not listened to this genius because there are no outlets that play music from that era unless you intentionally choose it.

I saw Billy Joel live a few times, including on his tour with Elton John. One thing to be aware of is that you shouldn't expect the audience to sit quietly while he plays. Prepare to hear a large chorus because everyone, including me, sang along loudly to every word of every song.
Billy has said that this is probably the best song he ever wrote; certainly his favourite.

A true storyteller. Saw him 5 or 6 times, always gave a great show.
There were many songs Billy Joel wrote and performed that were commercially more successful, but this is his masterpiece. Vienna, Piano Man, Only the Good Die Young, You May Be Right, these are all good starts.
