@@1949rgs it's kind of half and half, David Wain (drums) is the director of movies like Role Models and Wet Hot American Summer, both of which Ken Marino (lead singer) is in. So they're comedic dudes but they like to jam.
They do other songs to varying degrees of success but this one is their best so far. I've replayed it probably 50 times, and play along with it occasionally.
Oh my that was impressive. I was paying more attention to the music than the video. There wasn't a weak link among them. The vocals and the keyboard were outstanding and the guy on drums really had it together. While everybody else had more "filler" parts when their time came they were really, really good. I enjoyed this almost as much as the original.
There are so many talented musicians and singers- we only get to hear and see some! Great that there are such talented people around. Hearing and seeing horrible things all the time - this breathes a new life and restores faith in the fact this is what humans are about.
i have not had the time to view this channel for well over a month now so i just binged 5 or 6 in a row. they have all been great, but the energy in this one is contagious. great musicianship. i can't wait to see what else they do. ☮❤🙏
Don't forget that Weird AL is an incredible musician. Less than half of the songs on his 14 studio albums are parodies, he's an amazing songwriter. There's a video of him working through a bunch of songs with these guys and Ken's asking for his help musically.
outstanding performance and so much fun! I’ve seen a few more of their videos; besides Ken, there’s at least one actor or comedian who also is a talented musician in this group. They are all very good entertainers!
That was really really fun. Thanks Jeff Castanon for giving me another group to explore....I think this might need to be a SS Certified.................Absolutely love your channel
Pure fun! [Edit] I just took a look at their channel and listened to a few minutes of three of the videos. Really good. Really fun. Also it looks like they've only started adding videos several months ago. That means we should be hearing from them fairly often as they build their channel. BTW, the lead singer reminds me of Alec Baldwin.
I love David Wain, his movies are basically perfectly my sense of humor, and a lot of the supporting cast of this band are involved with his movies. How about the pipes on Ken Marino?!
Jeff, this was wonderful. When I first saw this a few weeks ago, I was hoping it would be on your plate, sooner than later. It’s brilliant on all levels. I saw a different, maybe HSCC? Do a Billy cover. The vocal was wrong so it threw me off and couldn’t get into it. THIS was as perfect as it could be. Tori level great, if that’s a proper rating level. I didn’t feel he was mimicking, it felt like a few added nuances but he was singing in his voice and it’s just that close to Billy. The musicians were A Level all around, I saw that Al is in some other of their videos. So he was more than a cameo. I didn’t feel like it was a lip-sync but it had to be. It was that good. I’m very sensitive to sync and can often see it and be driven crazy. (Worked with raw film/audio) Edited, sure but I wonder if it was just multiple takes edited together. Whatever, it was fabulous. On a separate note, I hope Bob and Debbi can feed you the recent Tori and Dan videos, I’m priced out. One will blow your mind. The other ain’t bad either. Close To You hasn’t dropped yet. Be well and keep having fun! Joe
These guys were a random UA-cam recommendation for me. I expected the comedy but subscribed for the music. I know Ken Marino primarily from his recurring role as the private detective Vinnie Van Lowe on "Veronica Mars" and I had no idea he could sing, let alone this well. MADJB do a bunch of other covers, but this is easily their best. Second best is their recent cover of Duran Duran's "Rio", where the keyboard player plays all the parts Nick Rhodes used an arpeggiator for manually. Showoff. Oh, and as you guessed, they record the song off-camera and the video is done to that backing track.
Also, Marino definitely adopts the vocal mannerisms of the artist being covered but he generally stays across the line where it's a unique performance instead of flat-out imitation. He's nowhere near the vocal chameleon that, say, Mike Vandemark from LLB is. But the performance is always enjoyable.
THAT was really fun and entertaining!🤣😂😅 And they are gooood!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😃😄👍🏼 Just great that they are doing this☺️. I know that this was a fun and skilled “cover” (and I really like that👌🏼😄🤩😃). It also reminds me of the Norwegian Ylvis some years back (2013 - time flies😅), when they made some imo. really funny songs+mv and actually were quite good at it😆🤣😂👍🏼. E.g. “Stonehenge” or “The Cabin”, which always floores me😆🤣😂😂😂😅🎶: ua-cam.com/video/ua1FAlHt_Ys/v-deo.htmlsi=ESF9w_bbyrRi02V7
This is a top notch performance. The group did an excellent job recreating the feel of the original song.
The keyboards, the sax, and even "Brender" and Eddie. They nailed it. What a delight.
Fun and witty, and a good band. A pleasure to discover that they exist. Thanks Jeff
This is the reason you do this, Jeff. I love seeing you this joyful. God bless you and this online community.
Wow. This is really tight for what appears to be almost comedic. These guys are good!
@@1949rgs great way to put it!

SIMPLY PRICELESS!! STANDING OVATION TO ALL!!!

Love seeing Weird Al and his accordion in this cover. Amazing.

I found this video a few months ago. I have watched it a few times and it still puts a smile on my face.
That was great! No matter who performs this song, it always takes me back to my early college days...
Fantastically fun! :)

That Billy Joel Album was his best. Fun cover and not all that bad... Actually great!

Actually, it is Brender and Eddy, me thinks. It's an East Coast thing. LOL
When I first heard it years ago, I thought it was Brenda Renetti.
