You need to know that she really was his “uptown girl”…… Christie would go on to become Billy’s wife, and mother of their daughter.
Billy also said Uptown Girl was also about another supermodel he dated before Christie, Elle MacPherson.

One little tidbit of info is that this song was originally titled Uptown Girls as at the time he was surrounded by ladies like Christy Brinkley, Whitney Houston and his at the time girlfriend Elle MacPherson. The song was written initially to be about his then relationship with MacPherson but then also became about his soon to be marriage to Brinkley.
And NO unlike what people are saying in comments Brinkley was NOT Billy Joel's wife at the time of this video. At the time he was dating Elle MacPherson, another supermodel. This song and video came out in 1983 and Brinkly and Joel got married in 1985.
He released an album in 1983 called "An Innocent Man". He made all the songs with a 1950' sound. Ioh, and when this video was made, she was his wife.

How was this the flipside to a Four Seasons song? A "flipside" is the actual other side of a 45 rpm record. The flipside to "Rag Doll" is "Silence Is Golden"

The most soulful Billy Joel song, including a majorly soulful vocal performance is called "New York State of Mind" and all the reactors react to the live version he did on the British program "Old Grey Whistle Test". It will blow your minds. So much soul and so much beauty. "Leave a Tender Moment Alone" is another soulful vocal from this album.
This song was a love letter/tribute to the music style of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons. Frankie Valli actually sang the theme song to Grease in the movie. Supermodel, Christie Brinkley, went onto to have a small cameo as a "mystery blonde" in the 1983 comedy movie "National Lampoon's Vacation". Boyband, Westlife, covered Uptown Girl in 2001.

This is from one of Billy’s best albums if not the best for the variety of music as he used it to do take offs on other musical groups. This one was a version produced in the manner of “The Four Seasons with Frankie Valli“. They were very popular in the 60s and 70s and preceded the Beatles. Billy had just come off of dating Elle Macpherson and was with Christie. According to him he started writing the song before he married Christie and it was called “uptown girls”. Of course Christie Brinkley was a supermodel and his wife at the time. It’s incredible how she looks at 70.
The movie GREASE was very popular at the time. Ive youve seen the movie, youll know the nod to the movie. Also that girl is Christy Brinkley. She was an international model at the time. Think project runway. That was his wife at that time.

My favorite Billy songs are completely different in style. The Old Grey Whistle Test of "NY State of Mind" is a showcase of his piano skills and voice, with a full band and an amazing sax solo. In the song "And So It Goes" it's stripped down, just Billy and his piano on a bare stage, spilling his heart out.
For Billy Joel, I would recommend New York State of Mind and Baby Grand. The second is a duet with Ray Charles and not to be missed.

I met Christy in downtown Chicago back in the mid-1980s when I was going to college. She was having a fashion show at a major department store. My friend and I cut class and met her. She was playing Billy Joel songs since she had just married him. She was very nice and a total babe, of course!!!
This is from his "An Innocent Man" album from the early 1980's. The entire album is a homage to late 50's to early 60's musical styles. Highly recommended.

Billy Joel went through phases in his career, his piano music was , I believe his mostly earlier work, which I love, like Piano Man, this son is more poppy, it was much later in his career, a different part of it. Still a great song, just a different time. ❤❤

Christy …. In 80s fashion! This was how we dressed, Friday nights at the dance clubs. Little dress, matching pumps, black hose, clutch purse. I’m not a hat girl. Very hard to sport “big hair” with hat on! And, this was the look then, not just uptown. You could get that dress in the mall at a ladies boutique. Loved to dress up and dance! 💃🏻

During her modeling career Christie Brinkley was a CoverGirl model. So the Uptown Cosmetics billboard is also a play on the billboards for CoverGirl cosmetics that were common in the 1980s (CoverGirl ads in print magazines were also prolific at the time). I do like your observation that the Uptown Cosmetics ad is juxtaposed the neon sign for the Downtown Gas station.

I always wonder if these younger people get the double ding at the beginning and again when Christy pulls up is supposed to represent. Back in the 80's and before full service gas stations had a hose (for lack of better term) that ran across the ground and when a car drove over it it would ding when the front tire went over it and again when the rear tires drove over it alerting the worker that a customer has driven up. Since the full service gas station has gone the way of the dodo you don't hear that very distinctive sound anymore. Now that is a bit of trivia for you. As for Christy, yes se was a very popular super model that graced the cover of the SI swimsuit edition. So everyone knew her name, especially after she married Billy Joel.
