- In this video I share my review of HERO, a Flying Roller Coaster manufactured by Zamperla located at Flamingo Land in North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Along with giving an in-depth review of the ride I also share facts about HERO along with a variety of on and off ride footage!

when I was about 13 my best mate, my Brother and I found a shopping trolley in a car park. I jumped in and they pushed me round the car park and then proceeded to push me down a hill where I hit a kerb and was thrown out. This was more enjoyable and less painful than riding hero.
a great lift hill idea followed by 2 mins of horror.....
Ikr I first went on at 9 and it was bad I'm going in a couple days and probably will end up going on it.😂

Ive been to flamingo land before and I just remember someone screaming ''DONT GO ON THIS RIDE'' and after this I dont think I will thanks for the good video sean.

@@ThemeParkWorldwide First time my nephew had to been to Flamingo Land or been upside down and we both chose this one,seeing it was near the entrance. Luckily it didn't scar him and he love all the other ones xx

I remember the wild mouse at Flamingoland. If I remember rightly it used to be King Solomon’s Mines at Morecambe Frontierland. One of my very first coasters! I’ll be giving Hero a go next time I visit, but it’ll probably be a one and done.
Very amusing and accurate review! I've been on Volare at Wiener Prater (the first version of this model) and it was highly unpleasant. I remember feeling the pressure on my chest throughout and being jostled about throughout in the cage. Horrible.

Totally agree Shawn, I went on the one at Coney Island and I think my brain has blocked it out of memory. All I can really remember is thinking ... when is this going to be over ... there is no way to position yourself for the transitions, no way to get away as you're in a metal prison ... God awful and never again!

They need to put in an appeal to the manufacture for a second train option for this model of ride, I bet flamingo land would happily purchase them before they consider scrapping the ride completely! The cost of new trains, and even a rebrand + added theming, would mean that flamingo land could re-market the ride and it could be very benficial with visitor numbers and park revenue. Just a thought :)

This isn't a coaster it's a torture machine and is one of the most painful experience I've ever been through in my life
This is truly the greatest coaster ever built. It's like riding on a track of silk and makes Shambhala and Swarm look like run down old rust buckets. Could this be the most thrilling, smooth and comfortable coaster of all time? I sure think so. ;)

My 6 year old loved it. Its now his favourite roller-coaster. Beating the likes ofumbo Jumbo, Thirteen, Wickerman, Spin ball Wizzer. GRAND national and the Big Dipper. He's pretty brave to go on all of those. And he's been on the Claw at Lightwater Valley
Who sits down and thinks, you know what, wouldn't it be really cool if we mixed a flying coaster with a wild mouse

Been a while since a coaster review. Awesome. Would dig an old Arrow coaster review. Loch Ness, The Big One or something. Always found it interesting how this ride and Intamin (like on Volcano Blast Coaster) do their barrel/heartline rolls opposed to a traditional B&M roll. These kind of have a downward trajectory and you're rotating on the inside of a circle instead of outside.

I do agree with Shawn here, it's not the best ride and it is really rough but I'd still go on it if I visited because the roughness adds to the intensity of the ride but they're are so many rides inside Flamingo Land that are a night and day brilliant difference like Kumali, Velocity and also the other one (flat ride are also better than Hero) so even though it's not the best ride, it's still ok I guess to go on it every now and again. I don't go to the park regularly which is why I feel different and would go on a ride but if I went once a year, I would probably skip a year between riding it.
I don't know what was their before Hero and Shawn saying it was a mouse track - Hero is probably the worse option but it's different - Mouse tracks are everywhere and super fun but that's my opinion. There probably isn't as many mouse tracks up in Yorkshire compared to down here in the South of England in places like Skegness etc.

I went on this coaster when I was like 15. I’m only 5’2 now (22) so god knows how tall I was then... I didn’t get the adjustments to my harness and everything done in time so my feet were too lose, and I spent the whole ride in tears, thinking I was falling out. I still have nightmares about it now :(

I loved this ride for the first time but on the second time it got really uncomfortable when i arrived in the station.
Hate that flamingo land is my home park. At least we have a coaster that is famous. Only for the wrong things

I've been to flamingo land twice recently and this ride is by far my favourite, maybe me being taller helps because I can easily reach the handles and steps but i dont really know, I went on it loads of times each day and I honestly don't get the hate for it

Absolutely agree with this. The worst rollercoaster I have ever been on - even worse than Colossus and the cramp that gave me. I went on this today and my shoulders and back are still quite sore

Last year for my birthday, we went to flamingo land and I bolted to the entrance to this ride thinking it would be fun. Then I saw a little girl screaming and crying like she just lost a family member. What a nice birthday surprise!

Imo, they should demolish the shoulder basher and replace it with a wild mouse or even another dark ride themed to robots or something
It's a real shame it's so painful as this is the only type of flying coaster I know of where your legs are straight, which provides a totally different flying experience - this makes the first drop great fun. I still found Hero more tolerable during the ride than a rough SLC like Infusion and even rode it twice, but it's the only coaster I've done that still hurt the following day! I wouldn't say the actual ride felt unsafe despite the waist-banging, more just violent in the way a wild mouse is, but the moving station loading did genuinely feel unsafe. Utterly bizarre that they feel that necessary. It doesn't bother me with seated vehicles, but jumping aboard a moving stepladder must cause so many trips and falls. Despite all this though, I found Hero fun in a masochistic sort of way and would still ride a Volare at other parks, but probably only the once next time :D

It’s absolutely terrible
I haven't been on a Volare in years, but I liked them when I was younger. Maybe I'm the right size it doesn't beat me up because I remember having clearance on all sides with the restraints.

Flamingo Land is my home park and I've had the "opportunity" to ride Hero. It was probably one of the worst moments of my life, I literally thought I was going to die. It reminded my of another horrific experience I had on a flat ride named Alakazam, located at the now closed Pleasure Island, where my feet kept slipping off the ladders and I was almost falling out the bottom. Hated it!

I remember going on this is 2014, less than a year after opening, and being pretty amazed at how rough it felt! My feet also slipped off the little foot ladder so I was just all over the place in the restraints 😂

Got the cred but I won't be rushing back when I next go even though I've ridden it at least 5 times with it being my local park. Bet the guys at Mingo are kicking themselves for selling Wild Mouse on. My favourite ride there is velocity and I hope to be able to go on the new ride in the summer if things calm down a bit and it all still goes ahead.
Went to flamingo land for first time in about 20 years last summer. Saw Hero and just didn’t like the look of ride carriages. Sure they are safe but looked like an iron maden just put me off
Lol Shawn I think hero must have new wheels because it’s quite a good ride now imo okay it’s a bit bumpy but no less uncomfortable than the likes of Mumbo Jumbo
When I go to flamingo land I will want to see how bad it is. I will probably regret it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It’s a ok ride until the turn
After that turn it’s horrible finished my holiday there with 2 large bruises from where my legs where hitting the ladder
The turns are brutal
I had to climb all over this thing to rig pyro for the press launch back in 2013. Got a ride on it just after and it was so awful I’ve never been back on it again despite visiting FL numerous times since. The only thing Im fond of is the promotional Hero cape I stole which was provided for some of the staff 😂

Went on this ride today knowing nothing about it. Very unpleasant: smelt sweaty, couldn't even scratch my face when locked into position, let alone check if my phone/keys were ok in my pockets. Then when the ride started, it was rickety and nauseating. As you say, a relief to get off again.
I agree with you the best part of the ride is the lift hill!!!

Chell won't ride it , I hate it but make a point to ride at least once per visit to remind us how bad it is
I have only been to flamingo land once and i went when hero was being built, I thought that hero would be an enjoyable ride. I was wrong. 😂

I was at FL a few days before Hero opened in 2013, and I was disappointed at the time to miss it, but even before the generally very negative reviews of these Volare rides appeared more widely, you could tell simply by watching the thing in action that it had the kind of transitions we had to put up with in Rollercoaster Tycoon. Some theme parks need to learn the lesson our parents tried to teach us with pocket money as kids. If you spend it now, you’ll get a cheap toy that won’t last or work that well, but if you save up, you’ll get something much better.
Save your pennies up, FL.

It’s a very painful coaster. It belongs in the graveyard.
How is this ride still open?
I still go on hero every time we go to flamingo land because it doesn’t have a long wait time half the time unless it’s like really busy but I remember one time I went on and as we were loading off one of the staff where stood quiet close to where it raises you back down and as it raised us down he got hit by it obviously it not being able to stop as well honestly just got to be careful!

Hmmm... Interesting on what you've got to say there Shawn - I've heard many times of the roughness of this ride. I can't say I've ever ridden a Zamperla Volare. Sounds like death trap if you ask me about the pains that can be experienced.

The most uncomfortable, well most painful rollercoaster has to be the ultimate at lightwater valley.. i cant walk after that!
I find it more bearable than this, at least your getting a decent and unique coaster!
I love hero! Did it 5 times in a row when I was there. Sure it's rough and uncomfortable at times, but that's just the experience of this coaster. A challenge, not boring and creative in both the carts and the layout. Unpopular opinion? Apart from Velocity, my favorite coaster in Flamingoland.
