Thanks a lot mate! I'm happy to hear you're enjoying it. I recognise your username form the Grid on DOA. What sort of stuff have you been making with it?
Dan,,,,,can you find me the person who left 2 Dislikes? I need to have a word with them out side in the Back Alley....LOL.......This Video is absolutely amazing..i purchased the Bit Box 6 months ago and converted to SynthBox immediately back then and i never actually used the Bitbox and now i wanna convert back to Bitbox after seeing this Vid...Thanks so much..Very motivating..
Great video and great review, i am also curious how this slicing and playback worsk for drum and bass / jungle. Using an external sequencer ? But how ?? Anyone who can help me out ?
oh shit... that multi break. sold me this is exactly what i want in my rack... as im going for a live improv jungle system...would love a quick tut on how you actually set that up....
Is it possible to select the root note after you’ve sampled so the unit will map correctly to a controller ie keystep? Or do you always have to sample middle C?
Are you able to get proper slice randomization to work when you've got, say, 30 slices in each of 5 sample slots? I seem to have crossed some threshold where my slice selection just doesn't change despite the various CV inputs I'm feeding it. Even on the screen it's clearly just re-triggering the same slice every time. In the manual it says that having cells in slicer mode limits the polyphony to 2, which seems to indicate a limitation in how much it can handle effectively when dealing with slices. Have you encountered this? Side note - perhaps I just wasn't paying enough attention, but it is not clear to me whether you are affiliated with 1010music or just a fan of their products?
Try adjusting the range of your CV. There's max of 64 slices per cell, so 30 slices will only be using less than half of the key range. Anything outside of that range will only trigger the first or last slices. I produce their demos and beta test for them, but I'm not a 1010music employee.
@@Dan_Pearson Ohhh so the selection logic doesn't scale the CV response to the number of slices? So if you only make 4 slices, you'll practically never hit the 2nd or 3rd slices with a full 0-5v LFO modulation input? Well that's a bit annoying but workable now that I know why it was happening. Thanks!
soooo nice! just one silly question at 7:50 you record new sample, but after recording it, its doesnt play automatically, after the record. do you think it is possible to autolauch the clip after the record ?
Bitbox comes with quite a large sample library, but these are all samples I made myself or collected over the years. You can download the 4 files I used the "sample" mode section here: forum.1010music.com/forum/products/bitbox/general-discussion/1578-factory-presets
THIS is my idea of a SEQUENCER! loop to MY beat! It needs Doepfer 102 VCF9s to get to the Fairlight CMI grunge I'm after, while the BitBox (I'm a human beatboxer 1st, love the looping!) provides needed MIDI & polyphony etc. to a rack. I like the blacked out stealth color scheme. It really makes a spaceship!
Dan question. I’m new to eurorack and I’m finding some terms about this Bitbox a little confusing as it relates to your title. I currently seen Bitbox and Bitbox MK2 being sold at distributors. You called your title Bitbox 2.0. Is that the same thing as the Bitbox MK2 or are you referring to the original Bitbox with a 2.0 firmware update installed? It would be very helpful if you clarified this in your video. Especially for us newbies
Absolutely. I can listen to Let The Power Fall all day every day. Sadly I have not had the pleasure of meeting him, however I have videoed his lovely wife in a professional capacity.
Great demo! Thanks! This is my favorite module in my rack.
You're welcome! Me too.. every patch I create is based around bitbox now
Well structured and clearly explained, just what I needed, thanks, got a new subscriber!
Dan- Excellent review. Just got my BB, plan on getting another or 2- (and please thank Aaron).
Thanks! I'm into samplers and thinking about a modular, this looks like a great sampler
Really great video! Thank you!
great review. v2.0 and your review made me buy this. im very happy with it so far. thanks for the details and for writing some interesting demos
Thanks a lot mate! I'm happy to hear you're enjoying it. I recognise your username form the Grid on DOA. What sort of stuff have you been making with it?
Dan Pearson I just bought it 2 days ago so just messing around at the moment
Watching this video to fuel my hype for the upcoming Blackbox. This is a really well made video! Hope you will make more.
Thanks! The official release is still about a week off, but here's a little something in the meantime.

Hi Dan, thx for that review and easy to listen too.
Very cool. will update today!
Thank you for your great work
No worries! I've been digging your music for a while now, very nice stuff
great demo , thanks
aaron is also a mad chill guy!

Nice one mate ! Good on ya !
this is wild, like a mini ableton in a box...on my wish list now
just updated great video
Great video and great review, i am also curious how this slicing and playback worsk for drum and bass / jungle. Using an external sequencer ? But how ?? Anyone who can help me out ?
💚 stunning
How are you loading multiple samples/loops into a cell?
this is Great bravo
How are you triggering the sample polyphonically and playing it at different pitches to create the soundscapes around 04:10 ?
I was using a BeatStep Pro, but any midi controller would do
Thanks Dan. Where is the Beatstep Pro connected to? An EXT input or the MIDI input? I can get the pitch to change but it's not polyphonic.
I was using the midi input. CV can only handle one note at a time. Also, make sure the sample is set to "Poly" mode
Great module even better now. Can I sequence this drum samples for example but with another sequencer?
Yes, no problem
Does the bitbox auto detect transients for slicing? That breaks preset was awesome.
Yes, and you can also adjust the detection threshold or just slice into divisions
can this play samples chromatically on a keyboard for example without having to manually re-pitch and assign to each slot?
Josh K absolutely!
oh shit... that multi break. sold me this is exactly what i want in my rack... as im going for a live improv jungle system...would love a quick tut on how you actually set that up....
Hit me up on dan.pearson23@gmail.com and I'll go through it in more detail
Nice one Dan, i will
Hi Dan.. Can I modulate the start / loop points using cv with this? It doesn't look like it.
Yes, there are 8 external modulation inputs to choose from
Awesome and this is affordable as well.
Is it possible to select the root note after you’ve sampled so the unit will map correctly to a controller ie keystep? Or do you always have to sample middle C?
Yes, absolutely. You just adjust the pitch up or down the amount of semitones needed
Dan Pearson thanks!
Very cool. Thanks for the overview. What are you using to sequence those drums just out of curiosity? I love D&B vibes!!
toolbox
@@Dan_Pearson Oh okay. Pretty cool how you can just use the MIDI TRS cable!

Yes, there is now an autoplay feature in the new firmware
@@Dan_Pearson thanks for you answer ! again awesome job :D
These are nice samples. Do they come pre loaded?

Love the sound quality as compared with Elektron just seems more professional sounding for the money.

Hi James. This video relates to the 2.0 firmware release a couple of years ago. The MK2 series 1 hardware has just been released
Cool. Would it be possible to create multiple loop points in future firmware ? FZ-1 style!
The best way to get new features into 1010music products is to post your ideas on the product forum wishlist at forum.1010music.com.
8:31 Lila's Dance!
Marco Longo yes I was experimenting with some odd time signatures and programmed a version of it in there
I can tell you have good taste
Am I correct in thinking bitbox 2.0 is a software upgrade and not also new bitbox hardware design.
That's correct.
Thanks.
My pleasure, Paul
Btw you mentioned Frippertronics - although I don't play guitar I am a massive fan of Fripp ;-).
Me too! The man is a genius and pioneer.
Absolutely. I can listen to Let The Power Fall all day every day. Sadly I have not had the pleasure of meeting him, however I have videoed his lovely wife in a professional capacity.
I'm a huge fan of King Crimson.
11:15 drum improve
Can I record a sequence using the inbuilt keyboard?
