Racemower Build Part 1

- Built a "racing lawnmower" for my senior project and this is the video I showed for the presentation. I crashed my other go kart, so I used almost everything I could from it in this build. It's not completely finished, but this is what I put together during the 2 week time window, in roughly 140 hours. I will be making more video-style updates when I complete it soon. More progress on the way shortly.
In addition, if you cannot tell from the video, this is not a real "racing lawnmower"used at actual events/tracks. Although I tried to keep it similar, it is not built to any race class or safety spec as an actual race mower is. This is moreover my take on a racing mower and will only be used around the yard and other like things.
Mac Demarco = instant thumbs up
Love me some mac dady
Very nice design for the trans shifter and steering! Looking forward to seeing the test drive .
Great work! Greetz from Germany
I'm trying to build a tractor go cart just to go around my neighborhood and grab junk for my creations
Mac demarco makes it awesome and also thats one cool racing mower!
I guess Im the only one that doesn't understand the gearbox situation how did you make the 90° gearbox work with the horizontal engine and axle?
Have you ever found the top speed yet. Awesome build by the way. It does look like a brilliant idea.
So seeing as how this vid is roughly a year and a half old now, do you plan on releasing an update anytime soon? Even just a short vid showing where it's at now would be cool.
great soundtrack
It's Brake damn it.
Subbed for this vid alone wow 😮
nice job!
+switchjv thanks!
Any running videos of it?
you should have put a little sprocket on the axel it gives your more speed
Yeah, Ive been tuning in the final drive sprocket to get it to a speed I like
Why not make the front spindles adjustable
What did u do for the transmission?
whats the 4th song called
ty segall - fine
check out his other stuff too. goodbye bread and manipulator are tasty good albums
what kind of axle barrings did you use ?
1" flange mount pillow block bearings.
Do a lot of the axle parts come from Northern?
I used BMI karts because they have a little more selection. Cheers
Where are the four wheels?
what's the top speed on it
ok thanks
sick work dude and names of songs
+creel513 Thanks, songs are by Mac Demarco and Ty Segall
fire welds at 1:43
What engine did you put in????
"blue max" 6.5hp honda clone. Same engine you can get at harbor freight.
Seems like a big lose of power to go through two 90deg boxes. Why not just run a jackshaft mid mower and be done. WOO has done it for years with horizontal crank engines.
@Jens Vincent Agreed
need a video of u drive it
Can I get the twin flat head engine?
+Pyro Kanal Åland Its it pretty rough shape. One of the the header bolts is snapped off in the head, and the whole head, and intake mani, has oil in it.
+uvasam13 can i get a link for the tires - rims
I bought them used off of ebay.
Why didn't you just stick with the v twin
The motor didn't run, and I didn't want to spend money fixing because I already had the other motor laying around.
I really hope you don't plan on Racing it with those welds..... that's an E.R visit waiting to happen
Haha yeah they're definitely pretty rough. I had no idea what I was doing back then, especially with 6011.
+uvasam13 hey. Gotta start some where
getting a grinder for Christmas haha
Yes Mac demarco
Let's see a test ride
+Fez Spar soon!
why would u go through all that trouble with the peerless and gb if using a side shaft mini bike motor??? the vert shaft briggs that belongs there would make at least twice the power and tq stock nevermind the +30% parasidic loss u created with redundant power transfers. i got a 14hp kohler (modded over 20 ) 2 pulley manual belt clutch to a 700(input shaft supported) only better way is with a side shaft motor a single jackshaft then to axle
Ok all take a test ride on mine
I will upload my test ride
Yeah I totally agree. Like I said in the description I used a lot of parts from my old go kart, including the engine. The original engine that came on the mower was toast, so I didn't want to have to hunt down and pay for another one. It was more of a project to see if I could repurpose all the parts into something else. The drivetrain power loss is pretty significant, but it is what it is. Thanks for the input!
building one so ya im 12 and trying to get alot of info before i get into the project
PIGGY603;} I'm 11 and starting one too 👍👍
+jesse m wow gess we are both gear heads !
PIGGY603;} how's it going so far? and I'm 14 and I already have one going but I'm keeping mine stock height, right now I'm working on getting the belt
Wolf Nation same, What is the base mower. the base of mine is a 1987 Snapper hi vac rear engine rider
I’m 13 and And same
is this really a slideshow this is youtube not PowerPoint
wait............this isn't powerpoint?!?!?!?!??!?!!!?
Wtf is up with the music
Where did you get the steering column from?
I think a got it on craigslist, but its one of those generic "weld together" steering shaft kits with a splined hub.
This is pretty similar:

Ok, I was wondering if you could get one with the bend in the middle pre made
