    Hi guys!
    Please excuse the mistake I made during making this folding solar panel project. The panels should be connected in parallel with each other, NOT in series. Please instead follow my updated project video here: ua-cam.com/video/lgxu_lZoDxI/v-deo.html
    With this change, you now cannot use the 12-5VDC converter that was shown in the video, but instead a 6-5VDC Buck converter constant current source module: amzn.to/3GEhopF
    Thanks for understanding!

      Hi Jason,
      My apologies... due to my lack of knowledge back at the time I made this video, I make a mistake by putting the panels in series when they're meant to sit in parallel with each other . Please watch my latest version of this project called the "Solar Power Bank", there I connect things accordingly. You must connect them in parallel to maintain a voltage 6V and to add up enough current, yes.
      Cheers,
      Max

    Can we use 2 solar panel of 6 v in series for 6 v × 2 = 12 v for 12 v car phone charger ?

    • @MaxImagination
      @MaxImagination  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, that won't work since small panels as such used in the video have a very low amperage, you'll have to connect many of them up in parallel and then an equivalent row which pairs up with the other parallel row, connected up in series to equal 12V. Then, that might be enough ✌️

  • @GP5zona
    @GP5zona 2 роки тому +2

    Do you need to add a diode to your solar panels? Thanks. I'm making something similar and I'm seeing often that people solder diodes on.

    • @MaxImagination
      @MaxImagination  2 роки тому +1

      Hi. Yes, adding a diode at the positive end lead of the solar panels is recommended. However, if even one panel gets shaded or blocked from the sun's light with this solar phone charger, the whole thing won't work. So as this is an older project of mine with the wrong "Series" solar panel wire up configuration, I advise you to hook up your solar panels in parallel (same voltage, higher current) for much better efficiency. That goes with saying that you'd also need a different rated power converter.
      I recommend you watch the latest project version - Solar Power bank, where I make a way more efficient solar charger: ua-cam.com/video/lgxu_lZoDxI/v-deo.html

    How did you set up the progress meter with the LEDs?

    • @MaxImagination
      @MaxImagination  Рік тому

      Hi, Ellie. From memory I used different value resistors with these LEDs. So when the voltage of the panel array goes up, the LEDs will shine stronger up until the very last LED.
      A more effective approach to doing this would be with diodes instead of resistors.

    Connecting them in series would only cause more time to get it charged right? Is there any other problem.....?

    • @MaxImagination
      @MaxImagination  Рік тому

      In reality, these panels must be hooked up in parallel to maintain a similar voltage to what the phone requires (5-6V) and add up to a higher value in current potential to make power conversion more efficient and stable. So if one panel gets covered or goes down, the rest of the panels keep working and charging the phone. The way I did it in series makes this project less efficient and unstable for charging anything. I will pin a comment leading to my updated version of this project.
      Cheers.
