I’m glad I came across Artur on UA-cam! I contacted him to work on my Mercedes-benz GL550 and my car was ready the same day in just a few hours! I definitely recommend Artur! Friendly, professional and reliable!
Thank you for posting. Replacing the chain without removing the case was great!! We completed this and a transmission fluid/filter change. Took us about 5 hours. Tip, we couldn’t get enough play in the driveshaft to move it away from the transfer case cover, so we lowered the rear exhaust and that helped.
Glad it helped, it can be pulled off, takes a bit of twisting and moving but comes out and goes on without removing the exhaust. Thank you for the tip.
I just had my transfer case chain replaced by Arthur today. I live in SoCal and got a day arranged to bring the car over. He is a great guy and completed the work very quickly (same day) and with care. The work is clean, professional and at a very reasonable price. I was amazed at the difference the new chain makes to the smooth / tight feeling driveline, mine was at 135k miles and was wearing out. Good service - highly recommended.
My 2007 GL450 with 164k miles would make a horrible sounding click-jerk when I would punch it. Worse than when the sunroof motor skips! LOL Anyway, Artur had it taken care of the same day, and it's been about 5 weeks now and no issues, no leaking, no skipping. Oh, and my sunroof is fine - I changed it out like 5 years ago. If this transfer case chain replacement would have been done at the dealer, the cost would have been equivalent to totaling the car! Thanks Artur!
I had the opportunity to meet Arthur, he helped us to change the transfer case chain, and not only that but help us to diagnose another issue from our MB GL450, he is very skilled on the brand, honest, fair. Excellent customer service, attentive to details. I really appreciate his help to get this issue fixed. I widely recommend him.
Have you ever seen one with a two-speed transfer case, as used on the "off-road package" cars? I'm guessing they must be harder to open up and work on.
Another Great video, Keep up the work. It's not easy to film, repair, edit and upload. Great infomation for the rest of us. (surprised to see Mercedes doesn't use a clutched transferase also)-MTB
Did you ever get an answer to this question? We're in the same boat. I can't get the drive shaft removed from the transfer case and I don't want to damage anything.
I own a 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL450. When I start the engine, I hear a knocking sound that becomes more pronounced when I accelerate. However, the noise significantly diminishes when I reach speeds exceeding 40 miles per hour. Interestingly, there is no noise when I have the air conditioning (AC) turned on, this is for last 5 months, i am still driving. vehicle driven only 76k miles
It might be something else causing the noise, however either way I would get it checked and repaired before that component fails or causes more issues. I am located in SoCal, can help with diagnosis and repair if you would like. You can contact me via email mirzoyanartur1984@gmail.com. Thanks.
Soak it with penetrating oil, let it sit for a while, a long screwdriver or a pry bad with a big hammer does the trick usually. Might have to heat it up if doesn’t budge.
how much would this cost if i supply the chain on average. And how long would this method take. Debating whether I am going to do this or pay for being lazy.
Good day sir...love your video nice and clean...Hoping you could help me with some information about the transfer case chain...I have Land Rover Discovery 3 2009 model...with same problem...Already striped down the chain but struggling to find the correct one...the problem is I can't seem to find the correct chain with the correct blue links on the chain...do you maby no what the meaning is for the blue links on the chain...The chain that I need I need I think it's the HV-085 OR HV-098...thank u in advance appreciate it. Have A great day!!!!!!
Thank you for this video! I have the exact same problem on my ML250 W166. Did you use a repair kit (gears, chain, gasket and all) or just a chain? My mechanic tells me that I will have to change anything and not just the chain.
Thank you, needs to be taken apart and checked the condition of the gears and case, usually nothing wrong with those, just the chain, also you need sealer, thread sealant and fluid. Check one of my latest videos on a black GL550 to see what can happen if driven for too long like that. Thanks for the comment. 🍻

What fluid did you use to refill the transfer case?
It typically uses red atf, the same as in the transmission, however check with the dealer to make sure.
Hi, is the chain the same on the newer version of GL(2013-2015)?
@@CreativeEntertaiment it is as long as it’s a single speed transfer case.
@@DEEuroworks Thank you!
What fluid did you use in the transfer case. Can i use the same transmission fluid i use for the transmission or does it take special fluid
Takes the same fluid as the transmission in most cases, check with the dealer on the fluid part number.
How do i get ahold of this man? I live in socal and need this for my GL450
Where did you get the rebuild kit?
The owner purchased it, I believe from purchased the chain from Amazon, only other items needed were transfer case fluid 1 Liter and high temp RTV.
What did uou use to clean it
Degreaser, brake cleaner, towels and brush.compressed air.

Do these still use the transmission fluid? I hear some people switched to usinghypoid gear oil instead since its thicker
@@willmill409 I use the factory recommended fluid, not sure what others are using. Haven’t had any issues using the factory fluid with new chains.
