I appreciate your help Nelson, your work & info was %100 helpful, thanks to your videos I've changed mine in 1 day job with small experience, cheers to you sir from Saudi Arabia!
Great video. Tip for when doing a valve body so oil doesn't run down your arm into your armpit and all down your shirt. I wear armbands around my biceps on each arm - like the ones tennis players wear from the 1980's. The oil gets caught in the bands. Works perfectly!
@@nelynel83 thanks again, took me about 5 hours with out a lift and your video was perfect and 100% helped so much. 2 bolts on the top were difficult but got it done. Thanks again. Keep those videos coming. Ended up spending about $120 and some elbow grease. Not counting the beer, LOL
Always so good that people take the time to upload these things. Am I right in thinking was from a car without the "off-road package", which I think is a two speed transfer case? I'm wondering if there are any differences in dealing with a two-speed case, principally any difficulties in getting to the chain.
Awesome video. I might have to change my transfer case bearings for glk350. Would you post a video of how to remove and install the bearings and its bearing races. Any special tools etc. thank you!
Where did you buy the new gears and new chain? I have looked everywhere. Seems the only please is on eBay. They don’t specify the exact model. Your help on where to purchase the kit will be very helpful. Thanks
Nelson, where can I get a good quality chain for my GL350 transfer case? Alternatively a rebuild kit. I see that they are on amazon but nor sure about the quality

@@nelynel83 I understand, thank your for giving us the insight of tackling this issue as I been having a clucking sound when on/ off the gas at times at 146k miles
Great video, I wish I had watched the first video when you took out the transfer case before I go ahead and replace mine. I got a new transfer case, took the old one out and put the new one on. Now I cannot get the rear drive shaft into the transfer case, did you have the same issue putting it back on?
With the transfercase install, jack up the transmission as much as you can and the driveshaft goes from the button and push up and use the pry bar to help get the angle.
Thank you for this video! I have the exact same problem on my ML250 W166. Did you use a repair kit (gears, chain, gasket and all) or just a chain? My mechanic tells me that I will have to change anything and not just the chain.
Great job Nelson. Question, you said to purchase off eBay or Amazon, correct? My 2012 GL450 is currently at the dealership, who diagnosed the problem as needing a new transfer case and then they gave me the price... So... Looking at other options to not have to go through them b/c the price was outrageous. The foreign car repair shop I called said he would need to see the part to read the numbers off of it, so it seems the numbers are key? Also, what is the range of price that the part should be?
@@nelynel83 my e550 has the same clicking noise when Turning. Sounds like it’s from the transfer case or something. Just received car yesterday. Free. Haven’t been able to diagnose the issue yet.
Nelson where can you get the plastic tensioner? I have only found two places that have a chain for a 2011 MB GL 450 and neither have the plastic tensioner?
Ok cause I was told when you change a part on a gl450 you have to hook the car up to a computer or else it won't go in to gear or work because it wont be able read the new part
@marioarreaga4359 that's no correct. If you're replacing the ISM module which is located on the driver side of the transmission then yes, you need to program and code it. But you are not doing that.
