@@M.A.S.-SuperiorService- You are right. I saw somebody put 30 NM on Benzforum. Valve cover gasket bolt only takeS 9NM. Double of that should be sufficient.
Thanks i was able to get it done but now the car won’t start 😢😢. Have power but it won’t crank. Any idea what can be the issue??the air suspension compressor too is dead. Everything was fine until I jacked the vehicle up
more than likely its a separate issue, tap on the smaller cylinder looking thing (starter solenoid) while some one cranks. Also make sure battery is good amperage
The part you had a hard time recalling the name was the carrier bearing. The chain was likely stretched over time but only started making noise when it came in contact with the case. Changing the transfer case oil might have helped if the issue was related to friction but I'm not sure that's what happened here. Likely the customer usage caused the premature wear of the chain.
It's common on these year Mercedes ml/gl/r/g oil maintenance is weak this one had 200kmi. I've seen it on land rovers with around same miles. Chains stretch easily with bad oil maintenance. Very common on k24 engines, they run very hot for 4cyl and infrequent oil changes can make they chains considerably longer
@@M.A.S.-SuperiorService- Hi Hope you are still online HOW did you get the transfer case cover back on?? We tried everything and could not get the case to slide back onto the housing.... I see no other option but to remove the case form my car and try that way thanks
What did the clicking sound like? Was it a constant clicking? Was it more of a THUD when accelerating? Was it clicking under acceleration and deceleration?

@@M.A.S.-SuperiorService- Thanks for your prompt response. I was a bit concerned because all the videos I’ve seen didn’t mention if they waited for the RTV to cure. Did you hand tighten the bolts once the case was back together and then waited an hour before final torquing? Or did you just torque while RTV still wet?
i worked at a dealer ship for 3 and a half years and no one ever lets rtv cure. imagine how many vehicles would be stuck on lifts waiting for rtv to cure, there would be no more lifts to keep working haha
@@donroni408 yeah my mechanic said the same thing. On the instructions it specifically mentions to let cure. I got the red 90min. Others instruct 24hrs!
What do you do if that drive shaft is stuck and won’t budge? Currently have this issue right now, could use some help. I already have the drive shaft carrier bracket unbolted and of course the 6 t10 bolts out as well.

However for me the drive shaft didn’t come loose once I removed the 6 bolts out. So I unbolted the drive shaft carrier like you mentioned but even with the extra wiggle coupling won’t budge.

Thank you. Been looking all over for this! Appreciate you, Man!
Thank you! For this video. My 2008 gl450 was doing exactly the same thing. Got mind fixed now my problem is solved.
Very nice video, same issue on my
09 ml 320, did the job myself and worked excellent….. thank you very much for the tip and video 💯
Thank you so much man ,I just repaired my ML500,It's all good
Thank you
Im not about that life! 😂 Bro i appreciate your vid im about to do my ML.
Fluid intervals won’t have any positive affect on the chain stretching. It’s just a wear item. Good video man
Good job. What is the torque value on the bolts attaching two transfer case covers? Thanks.
Mb doesnt supply that torque spec as far as I can see but I believe theyre M10 bolts so 25nm should suffice.

Can you possibly do this next week sometime?
Thanks for this! Do you have part numbers that were available for the chain and the guide? Sprocket #s are handy too
Ill link the chain in the description

It’s hard to miss only accell definite clicking, thud more likely transmission shifting harshly.
How many bolts to take off the transfer case cover?
How do you disconnect the drive shaft if it’s stuck and won’t budge?
Usually you can grab a screwdriver and pry alternatively you can give it a couple love taps on the edge where the holes for the screws are

Yes i believe the transfer case is the same
What is the torque specs
When you were working on this, did you have the vehicle in neutral?
i had all 4 wheels in the air so i didnt have to
Can it cause steering wheel to vibrate at idle?

What about 2013 X166 GL550? Can you send link to chain and kit if possible?
If im not mistaken the x166 is the same trans and tcase as 164 so it should be the same chain
Would this case my truck not to start
no
It appears you didn’t let the RTV cure..most directions indicate up to 24hrs before adding fluid. Is that okay?
There are no leaks. It cured for about 2 hours before it saw fuid again

The fluid looks really sludgy and thick, chain stretching could have been avoided more with frequent fluid changes.
How much transfer case fluid is needed?
its transmission fluid and about 2 quarts or until it starts coming out the top hole
I'm very surprised that Chain-Guide is still intact 😅

Only chain
Ok thanks
So just a half of quart is all u added? And as long as the fluid offer 236.14 it should be good for the transfer case?
@ J legit.. roughly how much did it cost to get fixed, having the same issue on my end?
I'm the mechanic i charged the customer $360 plus $80 amazon chain. I provided the t case fluid
Having trouble getting driveshaft off
If you have already removed all the bolts for it and it's not coming off usually a couple taps with the hammer will knock it loose
I tried that but I had the front wheels on ramps only does the car need to be leveled ?
Where are you located

@@singhsarabjit I sprayed with WD40 and let it soak overnight. Then took a small hammer to it and tapped it loose.
