Several years ago I was diagnosed with Meniers disease. After 2 years of failed treatments my doctor cut me loose and told me he couldn't help me any further. He advised me to make major lifestyle changes and I might get some relief. My problem was with drop attacks and constant poor balance and to a lesser extent, ear ringing and loss of hearing in one ear. Out of desperation I contacted a Meniers network near to me and was given a recipe for supplements that were said to help with the Meniers symptoms which were related to autoimmune problems. I reluctantly bought the supplements at considerable expense and now 7 months later I am 100% free from poor balance and drop attacks and my hearing is much better. You are definitely on the right track Dr Clark, keep educating us.

Thank you for your video, I wasn't told anything about auto immune system which I already know mine is low from previous medical complications. Hi Dr. Davis,
I am so glad to finally find someone understands what I'm going through. I've been suffering from vertigo on and off for a few years now. Every time it comes, I have severe indigestion problem as well. It usually starts with a migraine. I've gone to the several doctors, because I don't know if it's because of the indigestion that's causing my vertigo or the other way around. It may not even have a connection.
I cried listening to you speak because now I know I'm not crazy.

I'm happy you found someone to check for autoimmune problems. Now...the question whether they know how to do anything for an autoimmune problem, or if they know how to find one besides looking for antibodies (unreliable). I wish you good fortune.

Yes, hearing loss can be caused by autoimmune attack on the inner ear.

I had a bad case of Vertigo once. I woke up one night to go to the bathroom and I was so dizzy I was stumbling around in the dark. It makes your stomach feel sick too, which is not fun. I still get it in the morning sometimes when I wake up but it goes away within a few minutes or so.

Possibly. The "falling backwards"symptoms concern me greatly. Usually that type of symptom points to a bilateral problem in the medulla, cerebellum or midbrain. Now, the immune system could be a factor---there could be an autoimmune attack on the brain that's behind all this. Keep in mind, I am not diagnosing your child nor is this a substitute for actual examination.

Help PLEASE. Sometimes my body will move back and forth or side to side it affects my balance & walking, far off vision, thinking, slured speech, studder. Started Dec 2011 went ER. They thought I was having a stroke. Hospitalized 3 day. Had heart test, MRI on my brain and arteries. Neurolgist said Vertigo or middle ear virus. ENT doctor he said it is not my middle ear. Heart doctor said my irregular heart beat not causing this. Said see a Movement disorder Neuroglist. Has increased over time.

My 72-year-old father has been diagnosed with Vertigo. He gets frequent ear infections, has diabetes (mostly uncontrolled), and is slightly overweight. He has also had shingles terribly! His balance seems fine. But anytime he lays down to sleep, he feels like the room is spinning, and it causes him to become nauseated and lose sleep. He battles the vertigo by sleeping in a recliner. Having his head elevated quite a bit appears to help. Does this fit the profile for an autoimmune disorder? Help?

@luckyfire3 Not necessarily. Stress can make any person's dizziness, tinnitus worse--whether the cause was autoimmune or not. Stress decreases blood flow to peripheral tissues and causes chemical changes that make nerve cells less efficient.

@clarkchiro Dr. Clark I had my third episode of this spaced over 5 yrs apart. When it hits it is like ohhh god not this again...It is quick I have a tilting swooosh effect. I have about 8 min. or so before I am incapacitated. I feel the need to squat low shut my eye's as the light effects me terribly..I feel like a magnet that can move, eyelids heavy, violent vomiting starts, then off to the er in an ambulance.. this time it lasted from 5 in the evening to 11 at night.

I have Minieres since my second baby was born and my symptoms which are dizzy, Balance in the dark and light, tinnitus, and more are getting worse for a year now. I had few tests but doctors still can't figure out and finally got my test done for autoimmune after a year of torture. Will see. Also think its my spinal fluid pressure. Just want to say how sad it is that doctors always want to give drugs but actually don't cure or find out what's actually wrong! Thank you for this video, I hope th

I have a 7 year old that now experiences a dizziness that he says he feels like he is falling backwards, also complains of jaw pain. He is unable to walk without assistance, and or he crawls. This happened when he was 11 minths old. He started to walk and then quit at 11 months and did not walk again until 20 months old. He finds that being inverted/upside down releives some of the symtoms. Would the functional immune system eval help here?

    Psoriatic Arthritis, connected to vertigo?
Dr. Clark: I recently came down with vertigo. After it persisted for about a week I went in to see an ENT Dr. and he diagnosed that I had "--------------" (sorry, diagnoses escapes me), basically, an inflammation in one of my semi-circular canals causing the crystals to move out of position and cause veritigo. This was evident more so in one ear than the other. I was scheduled for an Epley maneuver but canceled it since the symptoms almost completely subsided on their own after 1 week. However, a week later, they are back. Almost a month between initial onset and the return. In 2006 I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis and use Humira to control it. I am mostly symptom free when on Humira as long as I inject at the prescribed interval (which I occasionally fail to do when feeling good). I should probably mention the vertigo to my Rheumatologist as well.
Obviously, PA is a malfunction of the auto-immune system. Curious as to your thoughts and encounters with people suffering from vertigo and arthritis.
    Thanks!

Its good to hear something other than a "rock slide" . There has to be other causes,
but BPPV is always the easiest conclusion.I had 1 mild bout several years ago BPPV & in recent months 1 debilitating, days to recover fully & 2 lesser bouts, but it let me know "I'm here". Now it seems to be lurking at all times, just laying low & hinting.

Sorry. At about 0.51 you say they have Menieres in one disease. But you point to your ear so I'm certain you mean in one ear. I was sort of poking fun, but no harm meant. I was just diagnosed with Menieres in May after finding low frequency hearing loss as well as 75% nonfunctioning balance in the left ear. Have fluctuating tennitus, frequent dizziness, ear fullness and brain fog on some days. I was also found to have underactive thyroid .... my T4 was 0.67. On Lo-So, HCTZ 25mg/ Synthroid 125

I have a weird symptom in my head that happens randomly. I get a blood rush feeling like you bent over and got up fast, but it does it whenever it wants. It seems to be worse when i'm sitting at a computer or in crowds of people. I notice I feel disoriented when there is lots of people walking around me too. I am pretty sure I have tinnitis, and I have been stressed this past year. Lately I have been having cold extremities, my hands and feet. I figure this is from stress.. any ideas?
