With the utmost respect to Master Nakayama, all of the above are extremely impractical and can be avoided with the proper use of personal and situational awareness - Zanshin.

I learned a lot from this video. If I'm ever walking down the sidewalk and Asian music starts to play as someone approaches me. I'LL CROSS THE STREET!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Then don't ever go visit the Shinjuku or Fukutoshin. The people are going to think there's something wrong with you.... from constantly crossing the street from one side to the other....
@@cailcampbell5890 . Well if it's in the Shinjuku I think you might have to do more than cross the street... you might get certain elements there upset with you from acting irrationally. .....Don't go to the shinjuku....
I understand that at first glance without context and much less understanding of the conditioning required, these techniques appear ineffective. The fact of the matter is that what is shown is concepts, and not necessarily the correct or precise technique. In the book series this is explained much further, and what the intention should be against a such said type of attack. For example if being grabbed either from the side, front or rear, one should turn against the attacker and immediately deliver a blow or strike against a vital target. These being the eyes, throat, groin, joints, xyphoid process, liver, kidneys etc.etc. The techniques are not written in stone, and they leave ample space for modifications and adjustments. I seriously doubt that a kick to the knees will not only cause sufficient pain, but also make the attacker incapacitated. This presentation is from a time when karate-kas used to train like Muay Thai fighters and tournaments were quite serious events. In which many competitors ended seriously injured, for they didn't use any type of protective equipment. Not even hand wraps!
Lovely images. Master Nakayama was unique. He was one step forward teaching karate… Very actual images and technique.
1:49 We have that exact same move in Choy Li Fut with the cross stance. Nice seeing another country use it.

Greate unique footage thank you for sharing!
Amazing & Spectacular
Actually someone should make a Practical Karate Self Defense DVD volume 1 instructional with all techniques as explained in the book.
You mean they should search the archives for the footage that was made alongside the book

@tatumergo3931 Hey, at least I won't get my ass kicked! 🤣🤣🤣

@tatumergo3931 Take a pill and lighten up, buddy! I didn't realize that I was speaking to the mayor of Shiniuku.
@@cailcampbell5890 . Sorry funny speech is hard to put down in writing... oh and it's Shinjuku not shiniuku... what the heck is shiniukyu?
Although it was interesting to see this historical footage, the application of technique was likely not effective.
So you think a kick to the ribs is not effective?
