I didn’t know you ventured that far from your patch. Nice one John. Kids with little or no money will be able to go catching fish with these great baits, like I did when I was a nipper. You would be amazed the size of fish you can catch with these. Maybe do a video of digging the larger ragworms.
you make it look easy on a little boat on the big blue...here we fish outta of the canals an the Colorado River of the Rio Grand but is a mission just to grab the family an go! Even though the rivers are 40min away. Most likely we just do from our back yards where the canals run thru! clear waters an plenty of catfish a turtles, bass & gold fish we throw those back! Ready to go out to the big blue!
Nice video if the worms are soft after you put them on the hook dip them in the sea before you cast they will tense up and not break off when you cast.👍
I love Cornwall, it's like home away from home and I can't exactly put my finger on why, from s Wales and I just sense something so familiar there. I know there are some historic connections there but it's something else :)
We used to dig lug worm off the sand & rag worm on the mussel beds, those rag worm were 10”/12” long with pincers in the mouth.. To get them out of the mussels you’d squeeze the mouth & they’d release from the mussels, just pull them they’d snap.. Tough digging on the mussel beds though..
Have you any idea on do's and dont's of diggin for worms, it states you can dig for your own fishing but not comercial, there is a good estery I know with loads of worms, nobody seems to dig there its not private land its marsh land - I would appriciate you comments. Thank you.
Kurt Lucas - You must be up early mate, are you working nights? The area down here doesn’t lend itself very well to bait pumps as the sand is only shallow with many stones. But we do intent on doing a bait pump vid when we get the chance. 👍🏻😉🎣
@@thefishlockerworkshop i used to work nights but i also do night fishing so i aint scared to throw myself out my cott for abit bait or fish :P ... if you ever fancied a few days up here mate even to just shoot abit footage doing summit your more then welcome to use me as a guide if you'd like ill take you to what i know
Can I please ask when looking for king rag why people use a fork instead of a pump. My kids wanna learn in catching there own bait something I have never tried
Just going through vids that I haven't seen. I always pump lug, as that's all we have where I am. My mate, who refuses to learn always picks them up! It's usually blow or yellow tails. On the bigger tides, it's suey ( black lug). A couple of yrs back, he had never seen a suey straight out of the beach, so I left him to pick them up whole! After 10mins he was covered in blood and guts, with me p***ing myself laughing at him!!!! He has never trusted me since...... Funnily enough he is now pumping himself - letting him learn the hard way, as I taught myself by reading articles over the yrs in magazines!!! 😆
Good job the harbour master didn't catch you digging in the harbour. They don't allow digging in that particular harbour because of the mooring anchors. You're obviously not local.
Wow. My comment was made years ago, as a caution. I have the utmost respect for John. But everyone needs to know where they can and can't dig. Respect has also got to be made for the owners and people who have, for generations, used this port for livelihood. I have known this port all my life. You can't just dig anywhere you like. John has since earned a respectful reputation, and I acknowledge everyone makes mistakes. Unlike some keyboard warriors.
My grandad, long passed on now, taught me as a boy to store lug in bone dry sand in a cool place.

- We will see what we can do mate. ;)
a a kid digging for bait with my dad. He used to get me to push my finger in the blow hole to stop the worm escaping as he dug

Really wow so those worms eat mussels

Didn't expect this to be Porthleven, ideal as it's 10 miles from me
John my gran said: " ew so disgusting. Worms." Lol

Great video cheers. How do you store your blow lug?
- Usually in a little bit of water if I aren't using them that day.
Tempatya mantep kk
golant just down the fowey estuary used to be one of the best places to dig king rag dunno what it is like there for them now
- Theres a lot of old spots that aren't much good now, greedy people have seen to that. :(

because most People have a fork
Some use bait pumps! I thought of getting one
Hi John can you use large garden lob worms for sea fishing
No.They re dying straight away
Probably have better luck using spaghetti lol
I find it hard to did for them and end up losing my rag 😂
If I was a fish I think I'd prefer the white rag. The harbour and lug look a bit gungy.
Do you have bloodworms over there? I’m from Maine, USA
Doink - Bloodworms are more of a freshwater fishing bait. But yes we do.
Nasty things those blood worms. It is a shame the fish love them so much. Great video
Hiw do u know where they are before digging or is it just pot luck
They usually leave pin holes
@@SimulationEvolve ok cheers
and castings

Do you need to be camouflaged?
just dont stomp about to alert the worms?
It's not essential but it does help
You can be fined by the council if they catch you not wearing camouflage.
Do any the worms bite?
Yes the rag worms bite as they have 2 pincers and the lug have tiny hairlike spikes which are harmless
Just going through vids that I haven't seen.
