Actually, the Cyberpunk Red rules specifically say that “Cyberware installed for therapeutic purposes, including limb replacements, prescribed medical devices, and cyberware used as a part of gender correction surgery, does not contribute to cyberpsychosis.” (Page 19)
And I could see that working as a good lore explanation. Going beyond humanity causes you to identity less with your fellow man. Reaching "baseline" humanity won't. Fun Fact: Originally, instead of Empathy, it was supposed to be that getting too many enhancements meant that the corporations that SOLD those enhancements got more and more control over your body and wallet. Forcing you to pay for upgrades/repairs just to stay alive and functioning, causing pop-up ads in your eyes, etc. and if you got too many, you would literally lose control over your body and be added to that corporation's army or workforce as a slave. This was too anti-capitalist for American distributors, so the whole Empathy thing was put in instead.
Like many things in this game, it proved prophetic! @@MylesMarrero I suppose you have a point but when it comes to Johnny I felt his specific hate for Arasaka was too much and too specific, as far as I know he never specifically complains about another corporation, and hell his hatred for corps almost seems to be because they are the same as Arasaka. It's obvious something big and important happened to piss him off to this extent but it's never shown or alluded to, making Johnny come off more as a maniac who decided to hate Arasaka for no real reason rather than being wronged by them. oh my god that is brilliant. but what if you kill the REO Meatwagon people which causes more corpse harvesters to spawn, who you then kill in an ever increasing cycle?
i like the idea that (as most games force you to at least consider if not reward you for stealth) that you can get more money if you sign a contract to them where they pay you a bit for each body you kill at the cost of reputation or something like that
Just dropping in from the distant future of December 2020 to add some information to the cyberpsychosis comments. The recently released Cyberpunk Red rulebook gives more context on what causes and contributes to cyberpsychosis. Necessary prosthetics to replace an arm or a leg don't cause humanity loss. Cybernetics only cause humanity loss when it involves voluntarily removing a functioning body part to add some new function. Replacing a lost leg with a prosthetic that brings you restores basic mobility=fine Having your arm removed for a robot one so you can have an smg pop up from your wrist=probably going to cause some subconscious issues Further, the rulebook explains that humanity loss corresponds to a reduction in empathy as the artificial parts of your body make you feel more distant from other people. People with low empathy, typically ones with pre-existing psychotic and/or sociopathic tendencies, are more likely to develop cyberpsychosis as they slowly stop thinking of themselves and others as people. Lastly, the rulebook states that humanity loss is also caused by traumatic experiences. This humanity loss and its associated empathy reduction can be treated and reversed with therapy with the game even providing a system for doing so. So basically, calling it humanity and having you lose doesn't really convey what the game is trying to represent. I don't know how much of this was in Cyberpunk 2020, that's how it is in Red.

@@argenteus8314 marx was wrong when he claimed that capitalism would inevitably give way to socialism. It will give way either to socialism by embracing more fully egalitarianism, or reject egalitarianism and embrace fascism
Please Brian, play the TTRPG before we all go mad
Please play it!!!
You lot will be wonderful to watch playing tabletop RPGs
oh please yeas,
Hi I'm here to validate Brian's need to do cool things.

Creator of Cyberpunk: Dude, wouldn’t it be hilarious if there was a gang but all the dudes in it looked like JFK?
Someone: But.....why?
Creator of Cyberpunk: just write it down
If you read the text you will see that there are FOUR HUNDRED JFKs in the fucking universe
Isn’t this the plot of clone high
"Nothing bad ever happens to the Kennedy's!"
Reminds me of the Kings from Fallout New Vegas
Yes Brian, do the game. Make your coworkers become the punks they were always meant to be
*Knock Knock*
Yeah, I got one large "Literally Any Reason" for a Brian David Gilbert here

Brian, for all of our sanity, please play the game. A table top cyberpunk adventure sounds like the perfect rewatchable masterpiece.
Brian David Gilbert, you must run a Cyberpunk 2020 RPG. We must let BDG Start A Riot!
"never fade away will be a part of the game we just wont be able to live through those experiences"

Pleaaaaaaase run Cyberpunk 2020!!!
I'm dying for some non DnD 5e podcasts! As great as DnD is, I really just wanna make JFK with a chainsaw arm.
THIS they should defo do it as a new polygon podcast in the style of Adventure Zone with Brian making the music and stuff I would DIE
Pat, BDG, Simone and Allegra would be my dream lineup but I don't mind
Hell yeah I wanna see BDG play the table top game!
...only because I don't have any friends to play it with myself.
I came here to make this exact comment and I feel seen
"the cowards ... have only given us the power to play as hunks" thank you for this and the body mod/prosthetics positivity, I didn't even catch the issue with the latter at first because I was just nodding along thinking of brain corruption or something
YES BDG YES PLAY IT PLAY US A ONE SHOT BDG! I'M GIVING YOU THE RESON YOU SO DESPERATELY DESIRE!
You guys should 100% do an ongoing series where you all play Cyberpunk 2020 and stream it live, like Critical Role. Let BDG do this, Polygon, you cowards.
They finally did!
Hi, Brian?
Literally play this game.
Stream it and I'll be there watching. (maybe others too but don't quote me on that one)
This video didn't age well...
Please play this game. Also, corpse harvesters should totally be a thing and would help explain corpses just despawning
oh my god that is brilliant. but what if you kill the REO Meatwagon people which causes more corpse harvesters to spawn, who you then kill in an ever increasing cycle?
i like the idea that (as most games force you to at least consider if not reward you for stealth) that you can get more money if you sign a contract to them where they pay you a bit for each body you kill at the cost of reputation or something like that
So you're saying CD Projekt Red should "Roll with the changes"
I wish my corpses would just despawn it would be so convenient
WE BOYCOTT CDPR UNTIL REO MEATWAGON IS CONFIRMED
please play 2020
Dear BDG,
Follow your dreams. Please play the Cyberpunk 2020.
Regards,
RC
Just dropping in from the distant future of December 2020 to add some information to the cyberpsychosis comments.
The recently released Cyberpunk Red rulebook gives more context on what causes and contributes to cyberpsychosis. Necessary prosthetics to replace an arm or a leg don't cause humanity loss. Cybernetics only cause humanity loss when it involves voluntarily removing a functioning body part to add some new function.
Replacing a lost leg with a prosthetic that brings you restores basic mobility=fine
Having your arm removed for a robot one so you can have an smg pop up from your wrist=probably going to cause some subconscious issues
Further, the rulebook explains that humanity loss corresponds to a reduction in empathy as the artificial parts of your body make you feel more distant from other people.
