Great film on many counts. Subtext of unspoken relationship between Marian and Shane deftly handled. Palance was properly menacing as Wilson. I particularly enjoyed Johnson as Calloway and his dislike for Shane turning into grudging respect. Beautiful cinematography by Loyal Griggs won Oscar. And the ending resonates and echos through the years..." Good-bye, Shane! "
I had a pick of the last two dogs in a litter of 5. The breeders named the puppies. I chose Shane over Tulsa because of this movie. That was over 9 years ago. I lost Shane yesterday to kidney failure and finding this makes it alittle bit easier.
I just finished watching the movie and counted all the "Shanes" and I counted 99. Hopefully I missed one because I'd like to think if they went through the trouble of saying Shane 99 times in the movie, they could make the extra effort for an even 100.
I never could get into this movie. I watched because I love Jean Arthur- but in all honestly she was wrong for the part. I found Joey extremely irritating especially the way he says Shane!
Funnily enough I thought Alan Ladd was miscast. He seems too small and slight to be a reputed ,gunslinging murderer. It should have been a tall dark ,muscled stranger who exuded and air of menace yet also a subtle kindly fragility.Although he wasn't around then , eg .,an American Sean Connery.Alan Ladd though had the perfect voice , deep with a subtle gentle timbre.
Gawd the biggest reason I hated that movie was the number of times someone said "shane". The second reason is the pitch of Jean Arthur's voice......like fingernails on a blackboard
A video compilation of all of Joey's lines in which he doesn't say "Shane" would be 12 seconds long.
I forgot just how much this kid trashes his dad in favor of Shane 😂
Best movie ever..... love this edit

SSSHHHAAANNNEEE !! ! ! !!, bleedin' SSSHHHAAANNNEEE !!!! ,
A much SIMPLER answer it was SHANE not SSSHHHAAANNNEEE & Joey's mother told him that it's Mr.Shane 😊 November 8,2020
I love Alan Ladd movies but Shane’s name was said so many times I could scream. It makes it hard to watch the movie.
I counted 88 times. Marian (Jean Arthur) says the name quietly a couple of those times.
2:26,see that black car moving in the background

@@djangorheinhardt oohhhh good angle!! The fact jean Arthur's character secretly carries a torch for Shane- it would have made more sense- a tall man!
