Simply the greatest western of all time !! There I said it ! and one of the greatest films ever made of all genres. Shane had it all , amazing cast , beautiful scenery , great storyline Ranchers vs Homesteaders and of course Victor Young with that brilliant musical score.
*@user-hy2xf8ke8w* Well stated and wholeheartedly agreed! Seventy years and counting has not diminished nor changed the status of this timeless motion picture!
When will they ever learn......this is the way to make a great film......a good director, a credible story, great acting, wonderful background music and last but not least great photography. Today all is flashy tricks, computer animated, deafening sound, etc... no acting, no music,no nothing, just crap.........oh, how I miss the good old days ......I thank God I was born in the golden age of cinema....
You know, you got a good point there. From the very start, music gives you an ineffable hint of how good the movie is going to be. You just don't see Alan,......... you observe....and that's a quality seldom seen these days. Rara avis.
I first heard this music on an old 78 record that my aunt and uncle had when I was a kid in the 50s. I didn't see the film till it came on tv many years later when I was a teenager and I fell in love with Alan Ladd on the spot! I think Shane and High Noon are the two best western movies ever made - and both have absolutely beautiful music.
First western to go on real location, outside of Ca. hills or Az. Stevens's masterpiecegoing to Grand Tetons, and having absolutely masterful cast......last Jean Arthur movie great performance.......
Both picture and music should have been an academy award! What an injustice. It may have saved Alan Ladd from ending his life the way he did. Colin John Aussie.
Yes, a truly memorable motion picture indeed! It did win an Oscar during the 1954 ceremonies. The film scored six Academy Award nominations and won an Oscar for its gorgeous Technicolor cinematography.
Shane is one of the greatest western movies ever. On a closer look I can see some of Clint Eastwood's are taken from this movie, especially in Pale Rider.
Also the style of shooting the revolver by Clint Eastwood, the original way of this typeof shooting the gun was first introduced by Alan Ladd in "Shane".
take note, The Beatles All you need is Love, begins with a rather long British Herald, followed by a non stop repeated used of verbal polytotom. Nothing wrong with that. It's a nice song. However,in Call of the Faraway Hills; we see an impossibly 4 note long Herald, followed by a single motif played with subtle variations, from cowboy to ballad to romantic waltz and a few other that defy description. That is the hallmark of a virtuoso composer. Victor young was a much better composer and arranger than Lennon and McCartney, and there's nothing wrong with saying that either. Call of the Faraway Hills takes the listener into many different directions, and all of them as beautiful as the last. Truly an original, beautiful composition, with such a memorable, uplifting melody. . ...and while we are on the subject... Today's movies VS yesteryear movies. Today's movies exclusively use psychological tricks to get the theaters pack, while yesteryear movies, the truly good ones, used originality, artistic talent and gifted production crew to put together a product that was greater than the sum of its parts. Today's movie aims at the lowest common denominator, while great yesteryear movies aimed at the greatest noblest part within us all. Since the very time music was set to moving pictures, people instinctively knew, music would be an important factor. Music is the language of emotions, and defines the mood. And there is no finer example of a piece of music that compliments the entire movie than this one.

music alone tells you how good the films going to be

Sometimes I believe that most of us can feel Call of the Faraway Hills...Amazing music! Thanks for post.
Lazarone Occ You are kindly welcome!
Yeah, most of us want to go and reach distant places we have never seen.
love this film
Yes, it was a great film.......no flaws at all.........timely, and saved forever.......
VERY CLASSICAL MOVIE. Of all the westerns I have on tape, I think THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE AND WILL NEVER GET RID OF IT.
What can I say, it's my favorite......Outside of the Wild Bunch, which came along in '69, I'm done with westerns...........
Of all the movies I have seen in the course of my 80 years, this ranks number one!!!
I do understand how special it is to have seen this motion picture as a younger person!
Naturally. It is, after all, the greatest movie ever made.
I was 9 years old at that time. It's the one of my favourite movie.

I always want to see the location in Wyoming were they made lots of it
One of the best movies I like very much when I was only 9 years old

Historia sencilla de una familia, en un entorno natural idílico y un tema musical inolvidable, hacen que sea muy difícil olvidar este film único.
The ending of this movie and the searchers and yes even the ending of will penney//// simply fantastic
Monty Walsh............Legends of the Fall.................
Has to be in the running as one of the best westerns ever.
It's out front of the others.
wow it's a beautiful music piece. I love it.
Haunting and beautiful . Incredible theme.
Allen Ladd was like a ghost in this film , watched this with my father when I was a kid, fond memories
Ghost? Interesting, but what do you mean exactly?
One of my all-time favorites
I was never an Alan Ladd fan, thought most of his movies kinda lame. Until I saw this. Great Western, one of the best. The score is magnificent.
I think this was Ladd's best.
a classic indeed sir
I love this movie xxxxxxx
MUY LINDO GRACIAS
*A motion picture by which many westerns past and present are* *often measured by. Dantz*

Not just taken from the greatest American Western, Clint mad a nasty
movie on the heels of a great movie. Ashamed I ever saw his sorry crap.
Me too, it was embarrassment..............I don't like clint, though he's made
a few, very few, decent movies last few years, I do not see his movies.
Das original Hollywood Orchester ist viel besser
