I really like Ryan's loose technique. He is never tense, but rather has a really loose motion that allows him to easily build out the character. Awesome piece!

Wow.... so simple but at same time with a lot of details.... just amazing!
That sketch was awesome. I really liked how he didn't use a lot of lines -- which is typical of comic book artist to do. Liked his shading technique too. That's something I don't see done too often. Usually comic artist just draw lines for shading and detail. He kept it simple, and made a lot out of what little he did. Cool pose too. Sometimes artists just draw the face and shoulders or only their upper body. A lot of guys don't like going deep down into the feet. Ryan is awesome.
What I learned from this video is to study body builders and not to go crazy with cross hatching.
Wow was in awe the entire time as how seemingly easy it seemed to him to draw this pic. Just amazing artistic talent. Jealous in every sense of the word.

Wow I am so jealous! Batman beyond is my favorite dc hero and Ryan does work on the unlimited comics. If i had met him I would totally geek out and ask for a batman beyond sketch. But it goes without saying that his Hulk was fantastic

What i learned is that he knows how to properly exaggerate anatomy because he knows how everything connects, unlike Liefeld who exaggerates for the sole reason that he has no clue what basic anatomy is. Looking at how Ryan connected everything it looked like Hulk could legitimately exist in a real world. Even though Hulk's proportions are comically exaggerated it still looks "correct".
That's the result of someone who properly studied from real anatomy and guys like Loomis. So many people think drawing exaggeration just makes it "easier", but it's actually more difficult because you have to know correct anatomy/proportions and know where and when to exaggerate.

MakeShiftHero probably just visualized it and then drew it. if you can close your eyes and see the figure you want its like copying from an image in your head.

Yes, a long time ago 96' or 97' on the Marvel reboot of their failing properties(when Marvel was in bankruptcy) called Heroes Reborn. He replaced Whilce Portacio on the Iron Man comic.
ARGH! This sounds like a really stupid question, even to me, but how does he keep his pencil sharp for so long? I have to sharpen mine almost every five minutes!! Or use a mechanical pencil, but I prefer the feel of a wooden pencil.
Easy. The side you use gets flatter, rotate the pencil when it has flattened a bit so you flatten around the tip. That should make your pencil last sharpend a lot longer. Also use light strokes.
I noticed that he didn't ink it or use copic markers. is ryan only a penciller?

This was an awesome sketch but i just don't get one thing dc artist drawing marvel character hulk? Well it was still awesome
Also, because the DC artist can also like Marvel Comics, its not illegal for them to read from other companies, if you want to hear something that really would bug you, at my High School they do something called Sports Night for girls, and one teams name had something to do with comics in the name, and they had a big poster in the hallway that had "our team is MARVELous" and one the bottom it had Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter :)
i wondert and ponder about this.ur meeting staff from DC comics and they do MARVEL comics charactersfor you. that must be something odd with that. ( or am i the only one thinking that.
