*It's only weighs 5 lbs, **do7.pl/DStabilizer** but can hoist up to an 8 lb camera (most DSLRs, GH4, A7s, BMPCC, & Canon C100). The gimbals are silent when working, so your mics won't pick up any noise. Easy set up with the quick start manual (15min), and balancing took a bit longer to fine tune the floating point (10-20min). It includes a DJI controller similar to the Phantom 2/3 controller for a 2nd shooter to operate the pan/tilt/roll of the camera, while the first operator controls the movement (or shot). I was iOS, so the app worked perfectly for me. While it comes with a handy tuning stand, it has no dedicated case for transport (hello Pelican case). I really enjoy the top handle for shots low to the ground. It comes with one battery that seems to last around 5-6 hours under normal conditions. I also mounted a monitor to the handle, and ran my p-tap power off of the Ronin-M's battery (there's a port under the camera). If you're looking for Canon C100 type of action, make sure to find the arm extensions and an accessory mount (Cinemilled).Overall, this is a sturdy and solid piece of equipment for any shooter's kit. For the price point, it's a must have for wedding video and lower end DSLR-type video work.*
Second comment, that shot you with the shadows/silhouettes on the wall behind the artist is super creative. I've never seen that before so kudos for that creativity.
Been using this beast since the last 4 months ! DJI upgraded the firmware for Ronin S few days back now for inception mode shoot you just need to tap two times to the right for infinite swing . btw dope review man
I requested an update for that on the DJI forums a while back. They said they would submit my suggestion to the software developers. I suppose they actually did (or it's an awesome coincidence)! The way the did it was different from my suggestion, but just as easy.
Great review! I purchased the Ronin-S way back when it first came out and waited, and waited, and waited for it to arrive. The backorders and lack of information from DJI was very frustrating but once I got the thing, damn was I impressed. I personally have a Ronin-MX with a ton of additional accessories (counterweight kit, follow focus kit all that fun stuff) but it became a huge chore to bring that thing with me to low-budget shoots! So the Ronin-S was definitely something I wanted to get for quick shoots where I don't need to go all out. I will say, I notice a very big difference in the quality of stabilization between the MX and the S models (the MX being superior) but that's to be expected seeing as the MX is a full-size gimbal meant to carry very heavy payloads. I'm with you on the fact that the S isn't the easiest thing to pack away. I had every intention of attaching it to my backpack like its a tripod but that didn't work too well. Overall this is a really well-built gimbal.
Such a great review! No nonsense, super practical, and right on the money! My go to is mostly my Crane V 2....so easy to mount and run and gun. I do have my Ronin S and love it for the heavier payload...(and had Ronin M too) but love the Crane V 2 still. The S has a place when I have heavier Sigma 35mm lenses on the A73, but that is my B Gimbal. The Crane is still simple, light and effective!
I really appreciate the conversation of weight of the gimbal. Weight is make or break for my work flow, and the honesty about how heavy it is helped me decide to go for something lighter.
I sold my Crane V2 when I moved to the Sigma 18-35 and Tokina 11-16 with my G85/Viltrox, since it wouldn't handle those lenses. I ended up purchasing the Ronin-M from watching your content, rather than going with the Crane 2 or Ronin-S. I like having the two-hand control, and messing with dual handles and monitor mounting for pistol grip gimbals was something I never wanted to have to deal with again. While the Ronin-M is damn heavy and it lacks some of the cool features and ease of use of the Ronin-S, I've been more than happy with the outcome while using the Ronin. I don't do travel or super run-and-gun shoots, so the Ronin fits my needs right now. Thanks for always providing detailed, and real-world feedback on this stuff man. Always appreciated!
I honestly haven't used my Ronin M in like 3 weeks and I love it lol. I have been considering the Ronin S though since its smaller. All about that ease of travel
3:35 I thought I was the only one experiencing this wobbling! This example you showed actually seems a bit severe to me tho haha. Any tips on how to apply warp stabilization without it warping the footage too much? Its been hit or miss for me with post stabilization, sometimes it works perfect, other times it'll get super wavy/distorted
Always love the honesty YC! I completely agree with the "height" issue you touched on. I have the Crane 2 and unless I'm doing weddings, I use it in under sling mode most of the time.
I haven't seen the size as an issue. I just strap it to my backpack the same way I would strap my tripod. Sits on the side of the bag with the straps really nicely. The issue I have is the up-down movement, "swimming" motion. I get that in basically every shot I do. I see you have these long straight shots without any of it. How do you get that? Is it just the way you walk or is it post-prod stabilisation?
When a lot of people sold the Ronin M, me I just bought one month ago the Ronin M only for music Video because I have seen your review of the M for music video and let me say you that I am really happy with the M better than the Ronin S. I still Have got a Zhiyun version 1 and not the crane 2 for my a6500, and the version 1 is good for the a6500 for travel or weddings . With the M and my a7s2 it’s dope for music video or corporate or scripted projects. For my work I will never change for the S even it’s a good equipment but the M is really awesome for Music video
Awesome review man, short sweet and to the point - real talk on the specs though - wish more reviews would stop listing all the specs / product info and just get into what they think + feel about using the product - so much more useful ! Keep up the awesome work + reviews :) Would love to get your thoughts / hands on with the Zhiyun weebill lab as a travel gimbal ( for A7Sii / A7iii with small primes ) - rated at 3KG yet quite small for travel !
I agree. I've been using the Ronin M over the S ever since I got it. The panning accuracy is much better with two wide hands as opposed to the stick of the Ronin S
I think that for a one-man operation (like moi) the Ronin-S is also a good option, since it has programmable remote functions using the app. The app on the Ronin is really well designed and easy to use. It also has a strong range of accessories, from Ronin and other manufacturers like SmallRig and Tilta.
Great video i have the M but i want to be portable and I’m 85% sold I’m going with the s but after you mentioned how high up it is when you sing the arm attachments that bothers me
Another great video. Really love your stuff. Keep it up. Quick question if you don’t mind. I have just purchased a Ronin-s but there is a slight motor noise coming from it. I have done the balance test and it is excellent. If I do the auto tune the noise is even louder. Does yours make any noise? Thanks in advance
I have a Moza AirCross for my small Sony using the Rokinon 12mm. I also have the Crane 2 for my a6300 and Sigma 18-35mm. Having the Moza I really don't need the infinity roll feature. So not sure I would need the DJI Ronin-S. But I still miss my old Ronin-M. :(
I feel stupid for saying this, but I was going to buy it to use for the Sony Rx100 camera I already have (since I heard its easy to attach also) haha! But my plan was to use the A7iii on it with the 16-35 in the future. I've been using the A7 for photograpy since it came out years ago and have done video work on it with sliders in the past, so I'm looking to get back into it. Some of the features I liked was the timelapse and 360 spinning feature I saw on it. The size and weight from what I heard does turn me off, because the Zhiyun Crane 2 in my opinion was also heavy, so if the Ronin S is suppose to be alot heavier than it might be a bit intimidating. My question is, is it worth getting the Ronin S on just the Rx100 just for now.... ? Or does Zhiyun Crane able to do that without extra attachments?
I'm still a little new to cameras and stuff, you named some cameras that you shouldn't combine with the Ronin S, does a Sony Alpha II count as one of those cameras? Great video btw.!
I also use a Ronin S, I borrow it from a friend. It’s not so heavy and very easy to handle. But I have question about another topic. I used a alpha 7S and it’s broken now 😭. So I’m thinking about to buy myself a GH5 or a GH5s. I’m doing Musikvideos and I’m mostly filming in the city (daytime and nighttime). Do you think the ISO of the GH5 is good enough for nighttime-light? Im not sure what to buy because the GH5 has the stabilasor and the GH5s not. But the GH5s is better in low light. The price difference in Germany is about 500-700€. If you would be in my situation, what would you buy?
The GH5 stabilizer is more valuable than the GH5S low-light in my opinion. I push 1600 ISO on my GH5 easily. Having fast lenses like the Voigtlander f/0.95s make it so I never have to bump up the ISO too much. The ability to go to super high ISOs is overrated in my opinion. Any highlights in the shot will look ridiculous and the look it produces ultimately demonstrates a muddy lack of lighting. My DJI Ronin M has been broken most of the year, but the GH5 stabilizer has given me quality-cushion and time to repair.
Andrew Paul Davis thank you brother. Makes sense. And for the 500-700€ I can easy buy other good stuff. What’s your favorite Objektiv. I loved to use the Sigma 18-35mm F1,8. it’s Perfect for musicvideos.
What about follow focus? From my understanding, this is the only gimbal that has electronic follow focus control for Panasonic cameras over all other gimbals, correct? I know that with technique (and wide lenses), it wouldn't be an issue whether a gimbal has or doesn't have FF, but have you used that feature at all?
I have the Ronin-S and I think i need to tweak my settings a bit because the yaw on it is just not right. When i pan and circle on a subject, I find it really hard to keep the subject in the center. Did you have this issue with it? What are your settings? BTW, did you get the Osmo Pocket? I just ordered it and looking forward to having this in my kit.
I use the crane 2 and i love it, dont see the Ronin M or the the S being any better as they all do the same thing however, i have been looking for a backpack that would have a separate compartment for the gimbal and with out realising you just answered it lol, your videos are always dope keep it up bro.
Can anyone assist me? Im using Canon 7D with no autofocus during recording, would be great to know if the DJI Wheel works for focusing during recording without an additional DJI Focus Motor. I'm thinking between Crane 3 Lab & Ronin S. Personally I prefer to get Ronin S instead because the stability is far superior
Have you had any battery issues with the Ronin M? I've been looking into gimbals and it interests me, but I'm reading so many horrible reviews about the batteries that it concerns me.
I'm on the Feiyutech A2000 at the moment. I used it seriously for the first time for a party 11/3. I'm kinda mixed on it and back to thinking about the Ronin - S. BTW.. Great review.
Not saying you...but is the ronin-s really that jerky or is there a lot of ams uploading to youtube? I don't get the jerkiness of the S with the Ronin-m at all when filming music videos/ etc.
I have a GH4 with a metabones speedbooster and a sigma lens I done some research and the Focus don't work with the dji ronin so can I still buy the DJI and just use my hand to focus it or is it not worth it
I bought the S and it's good however it's not for someone who needs that lower viewpoint or needs to be in more underslung mode territory. The M is better for that.
i use the ronin-s with my fuji x-t3. with the x-t3 its not that top heavy as my other camera's. i really like how solid it feels i dont mind the weight and its super portable, and nothing beats the dji app imo.
Good gimbal, but a pound heavier than it needs to be. They should make it with a 2 handed battery option since it has the ability to disconnect the bottom half with that single one.
My ronin-s shakes like crazy when i try to do infinity roll... the gimbal works fine with any other position, even underslung.. its just when i try doing infinity roll it shakes like a mf... i got an a6500, mc11 adapter, 18-35 sigma on there. Any ideas on what to do??
Hey! I have a canon 70d camera and sigma 18-35 lens, would you reccomend Ronis s or m? or smth else? also my canon 70d isn't compatible with any gimbal on the market, so i would need a follow motor separately ... :/ My concerne witth roin m is that I cant control the yojstick and gimbal at once, so you need two people, while with ronin s it's easier to handle alone...
Love this! Please, can someone let me know if a sony a7ii WITH the battery grip will fit on this? I know that the zhiyum crane literally doesn't have space for it.
What's your go-to stabilizer?
Crane 2! Would love to try the Ronin-S tho.

@@neillroberts4019 I believe most people mention the weight in comparison to other one-handed gimbals, but it's not really a one-handed gimbal.
Neill Roberts It’s not that heavy, just heavy in comparison to other single handed gimbals
I have a GH4 with a metabones speedbooster and a sigma lens I done some research and the Focus don't work with the dji ronin so can I still buy the DJI and just use my hand to focus it or is it not worth it
Bro i have to see those other music videos!
Raw Provisions BTS soon
I bought the S and it's good however it's not for someone who needs that lower viewpoint or needs to be in more underslung mode territory. The M is better for that.
i use the ronin-s with my fuji x-t3. with the x-t3 its not that top heavy as my other camera's. i really like how solid it feels i dont mind the weight and its super portable, and nothing beats the dji app imo.
Good gimbal, but a pound heavier than it needs to be. They should make it with a 2 handed battery option since it has the ability to disconnect the bottom half with that single one.
That extra weight likely helps with stability too though.
How you finding the Sony a7iii
Still love my Ronin M!
Nice job bro
Love this! Please, can someone let me know if a sony a7ii WITH the battery grip will fit on this? I know that the zhiyum crane literally doesn't have space for it.
