Just ordered one. 4K 120 is what i was waiting for to upgrade my a6400 and I will get so much more pro features. Can’t wait to receive it.
How is it now?
Thank you for the great review. I will definitely buy this camera in addition to my A6600. I was waiting for the A7C Mark II, but the FX30 has everything I need and even more. Great entry level for hobbyist and beginner video makers.
There is a big difference between the FX30 and FX3 if you are planning to use the camera for still photography. The FX3 doubles as a full fledge pro photo camera while the FX30 does not. And this is because the FX3 is equipped with both, mechanical and electronic shutter. The FX30 has only an electronic shutter so it is impossible to use flash lights or strobes. Without a mechanical shutter the flash and cam won't sync. While the FX3 can be used for still photography without any limitations.
This camera is meant for video, if you really want to do both is better to look for other options like a A7IV or a A7RV
Finally Something That I can Afford.. Thank you SONY.. 😍
This is THE review on the FX30 that I was waiting to see! Now I just have to wait 7 long days before getting hands on with one at the Creative Space NYC. REALLY looking forward to that now....THANKS Manny!
My favorite part about this video was how happy you made your girl lol. Thanks for that authentic moment. Made me smile
The FX-30 is what Sony's a6000 was when it was first released -- chuck full of pro features and cheap.
What about P S5 ?
this is not the same price range. Not even close.
No the fx30 is more over priced
maybe =)). I think FX30 has the differrent sensor with dual native iso and high dynamic range. XH2 /XH2s and FX30 have highest dynamic range and dual native iso we never see on APS C camera before. Sony just done the new research for thier new sensor
You are absolutely right (Dean), it should have been an a6900, or something else, but not FX. It's a camera to film during the day or with a lot of light. It's even worse in low light than the GH5S (which is crap on the AF side btw). I bought the FX30 together with a sony15mm f1.4 (which in my opinion is the best lens), even with it open at 1.4 it was full of grain, in a room lit by a lamp, i was so so disappointed. I thought at least that dual ISO at 2500 would save me when i shooting in dark places, but no chance....
I was at a wedding and I had to ask the hall managers to leave all the lights on, the chandeliers throughout the whole ballroom, looked like a looser. Even so, many grains can be seen in the shadows. It's for amateur users. I sent it back and ordered another a7SIII. With the a7sIII I shot with all the lights turned off, without grain, that's the difference between an entry level camera and a professional one.
The life! Watching for recommendations and getting wifey tips! Awesome vid.
At 1:44 , you gave the best advie you have ever given on this channel.I enjoy your content man.
Great job on the video! Thanks for making it.
Good relationship advice. One time for the free game.
Best video on this camera... great detail!
Just stumbled across your channel, amazing videos, so much information, AND my man hops into a mk7.5 Golf R with a r400 bumper. Sub’d without a question. Keep this content up. Super inspiring for young creators like myself🎉
Thanks for your hard work on the video. Does the fx30 use the apsc battery or full frame??
Thanks for that advice... Loved it
You are one of very few people whose opinion I wanted to see on the FX30...
Outstanding video! Thanks.
5:04 pure honesty. You'd be crazy to go full frame to crop cause it's a b-cam. Thanks for the review.
Manny❓️⁉️If you were to pick between fx 30 and fujifilm xh2s? Which one would you pick?
Manny's a true gentlemen & an damn inspiration 💙
I had watched your video about A1, and now this one I am happy that there are people who can buy that thing, and like this one FX30. I am beginner in this Photo-Video world and editing it.I do it with Xiaomi 10 pro lol. But watching this give me so much motivation to learn all about photo and video creation and editing, so one day I can buy something like FX30 or maybe even A1.
Great video and explanation, amigo…….JUST SUBBED.
🥃👊🏾
Great video bro ! What was the mount you used to hold your camera in the car ??
amazing review 👍🙏
Thanks for the reminder.
Nice✌🏻 Finally a new apsc sensor from sony
What are those circular modifiers you got? The ones with the white circles?
Great video. How did you mount and stabilised the FX30 in the car?
Thx for your review. I don‘t know if this question was ever mentioned by someone, but is it possible to swap the top handle around? I mean, can I use the handle with all its audio features from my FX3 on the FX30?
manny !!!! good video !! but one thing with this camera ...Better lens for video 11mm 1.8 or 15mm 1.4 ????
Manny knock it off bro.. Are you seriously telling us you went from being a cop To Being This!!! Photographer, UA-camr, all around good guy.. Like fam STO IT!!! You've been Killing it over the years.. And i gotta thank you for continuing to Shine the spotlight in this industry.. I'm only 1:58 in this video.. Been watching your content for years.. Now let me get back to this video..
this is awesome camera
I have an a7iii with a broken mic in port and a Rode Wireless Go II that I never got to use because that's how I discovered the mic in port was bad.
My FX30 and 11mm f1.8 arrived last week, and it's really incredible. I didn't get the handle, but starting to think it'll be a good add on. I won't stop having a hybrid full frame camera though. I'll probably trade the a7iii in for an a7iv once I get it back from repairs.
Also, what did you use to mount the FX30 in your car?
Beast camera for people wanna get into Sonys Cinema Line or a very nice B-camera.
You can say what you want but this guy nails the lighting in every shot he takes!
Nails lighting in every shot he shares with us
love your videos bro I see you flexing your muscles at the 3:35 minute mark you getting ripped bro!!
Great video.
Would you say that there are any compromises between the FX30 over the A7SIII for video?
Recommendation for a good run and gun lens for the FX30? I'm Z9 user, but was looking to get an FX30 for a side camera for video work.
how did you grade this video it looks natural, skin tones etc....do you use special luts?
Can you do a 4K footage workflow video? Would be really helpful!
Can you make a video on how the FX30 performs with pictures?
I tend to do more walking talking vlog , do you suggest 11mm F1.8 or the new Sony 10-18? Or was it 10-20 f4? I currently have Sigma 18-50 F1.8 at the moment
Your low light test was amazing. I still don't understand why people say it's horrible. It's absolutely fantastic for an aps-c!
HD quality isn't great, very grainy but 4k is superb. After grading it cleans up well. very high-quality feeling camera. i give it a 9.5
That you for your video!
What about fx-30 xlr handle and teleprompter?
Do you have option to setup both together?
Hopefully we get a successor to the 6600 with the new sensor with improved rolling shutter performance
Not too worried about this camera
But love the coffee scene 🙏🥰
Would love to see some "photography" with this camera. Haven't found a single review yet showing stills.
Now I have to consider whether or not I switch away from my Panasonic S5. I'm quite tempted by the smaller lenses, the additional 1/4''-20 threads for rigging, the hybrid autofocus, and I'm at the point where I don't necessarily need the full-frame quality. I wouldn't doubt it worth buying if I didn't already have the S5.
I’m invested in Lumix as well… they are great and there are pros and cons of the Sony… apparently a new S5 is coming soon in 2023… waiting to see what that offers.
Hi..did you had horizontal bandings whith photos because of having only electronic shutter ? Thanks
hope you can do photoshoot using fx30
Would this be a good camera for a beginner photographer?
Any opinion between what the best option is between the FX30 vs S52 vs R8? I’ll be shooting jiu jitsu videos, no corporate work. Thank you for any input.
Where do you get the soft box covers with the holes cut out??
Hey man I'm a fellow Chicago UA-cam content creator and I just got a Sony FX30. I shoot in a garage gym. Do you have a recommendation for a lens to pair with it. I need one lens for now under $800. Any thoughts?
How do you white balance so well outside, what are your settings?
I know real estate videos is not your space (at least that I know/seen on your channel) how do you feel about the low light performance? Thinking about getting this for my video work, centered around RE Videos. Let me know your thoughts.
Where do you get those crisp T-Shirts from bro?
Focus Breathing Compensation is impossible to implement on the A7SIII/FX3 while retaining 4K. That seems to be a comprise Sony’s willing to make. You have to remember that some lenses crop severely to compensate for their focus breathing, and will end up cropping below 8.3MP which is the bare minimum for 4K.
Keep in mind that the A7SIII/FX3 both have a 12MP sensor vs. 33MP on the A7IV and 20MP on the FX30. That’s why it’s been almost a year out on the A7IV and hasn’t arrived on the A7SIII/FX3. If you’re hoping that it’ll come then stop hoping, because it won’t.
Thanks thats very useful information. I never used to think focus breathing was a big deal. But recently Ive being noticing it more especially when someone moves a hand and the AF drifts momentarily giving a frame wobble thats distracting
@Jerimiah CK True, but there are caveats with that focus breathing compensation on the FX6.
The main story is that it doesn’t do the same type of focus breathing correction. Why? As mentioned before, limits of cropping past 4K do not allow it to fully correct like others.
Do a side-by-side test, and place lights on the edges of the frame. The A7IV will keep the same frame, whereas the FX6 will still breathe. Why? Because of the sensor.
@Jerimiah CK No worries, I said impossible when in reality it is technically possible. Thanks for calling me out and challenging my statement.
With that said, and although it is technically possible to implement focus breathing compensation on the A7SIII/FX3, it would most certainly be in a crippled way like with the FX6.
What these UA-camrs are asking for is the focus breathing found on the A7IV which fully corrects the breathing, and it that sense, that type of correction can’t be made due to the resolution limitations of this particular sensor.
Now, will Sony release and update for the A7SIII/FX3? I’m not trying to be cynical, but probably and most likely they won’t.
Not impossible as it turns out! Firmware update coming with Breathing Compensation for the A7Slll
Though I admit, I didn’t see them actually releasing it, either
I agree with this title.
can u use that for taking photos??
What microphone do you have connected to the fx30?
yes
If it has a 6k sensor, why is there no 6k internal recording option? It has active cooling so surely 6k 24/25p should be an option?
@7:15 can you show us the rolling shutter compared to fx3?
I was thinking about buying a the Sony 11mm for my Fx30
Hopefully the upgraded BSI APSC sensor gets ported to the new a6x00 cameras.
What tips would you have for someone new to Sony, like me, who picked up this camera?
What a fab video. I have the a6600 and do a few UA-cam videos and am getting into more and more filming. This new camera looks amazing for people like me with a keen interest in videography and access now to a huge range of pro features allowing for some amazing footage! The fact it will colourgrade will save so much time and effort! Looks great! Thanks for the superb real insight into the camera! Subscribed and look forward to your next video! What are the stills like with it? Should I keep a6600 and if I do well I can sell the a6600 and get the fx3 to perfectly pair up!?! Sounds like that’s what you may be doing?
I have the a6600 too and thinking the same thing 🤔
Did you get the fx30? I also have a6600 and wonder if it is worth the upgrade.
@@SunGymLive yes I love it! Got some lovely 4K 100fps slow mo shots. Keeping the a6600 for photography.
Any way you can do a comparison video of the 2? Im on fence about getting one. Not sure if the difference between both 4k video is that big.
@@SunGymLive I am not an expert I’m just watching tons of UA-cam videos and I took the leap and I love the camera! In my fairly limited experience it’s much more user friendly, makes my life easier and I’m happier with the end product.
Hello! Can we use this camera with external flash for photo? Thanks in advance )
what mic do you use at the desk set up?
Thanks for the video! Would you choose fx30 or a7iv for video? I'm a little bit confused by the video quality of fx30 (fx3, a7iv, a7siii look way better)
Not a professional, but the A7IV has terrible rolling shutter, so definitely the FX30. Both can shoot 4k60, but they both have a crop applied
@@DroopyPenguin95 Rolling shutter on the fx30 is not much better. A7iv looks better to me in low light and better dynamic range. I say a7iv.
@@CO8848_2 go watch Gerald Undone's video at about 3 min and 5 sec
@@DroopyPenguin95 if you can see, that footage shows it's not much better, duh. Unusable, period.
Sony a7iv better …
I have a question what's good camera for Videography and photography
dude, salted caramel cold brew- favorite! good move with the Mrs.
I agree with your reaction, I might get one myself as well, but I don't feel like investing in APSC lenses, so I might just use my full frame lenses on it. I currently own an A7RIII and have been thinking about upgrading to Sony A7IV, as I've been mainly doing video lately. But maybe getting this and keeping my current A7RIII over replacing it for the IV might be the right call, what do you think?
Though the ASP-c lenses are far less money.
Wait for the A7RV coming in October! Unless you shoot more video than photos.
@@daniellove162 That is true, and I might consider to get one or two, but I just have so many full frame lenses that getting their replacements in APSC just doesn't make sense really.
@@richardshaw7449 That's a good suggestion and the A7R5 sounds great, though like I said in my initial comment - even though I focus mainly on photography, most of my client work in the recent months is just videos, as they are getting more and more popular. That's why I'm considering the Sony FX30.
@@DannyNobody - I have an R5 yet I’m considering selling it all and getting the FX30. With a great ASCP camera your lenses are MUCH smaller and cheaper. Most of the shooting I do is alone so having a small footprint is great. If I have a more expensive client I can just hire an operator with a better camera to crew up with. If I was to get the canon version (a C70) it costs almost $6,000 and RF lenses are not as plentiful and more money for cropped sensors.
By the way, Full frame is overrated. Having a sharp focus with an ASPC camera is NEVER a problem for clients. It’s only a problem for DPs who think highly of themselves.
I like the Steven Crowder reference!
forget about the camera for a moment what exhaust is that 0:10 , your car sounds amazing.
Is working autofocus when external monitor is connected? My a6400 doesn't :( On a6400 is working only when is recording through hdmi to external hard drive. I
I am new to the camera scene so I bought the ZV-E10 to learn what I need to know to get to the next step. I thought that would be a full frame and I would have to buy new lenses, but this changes things. This will be a great next step and now I would not feel bad buying more APSC lens kits. So once I suck the marrow out of the ZV-E10's bones (lol) I have something new to try. Thanks.
Selfish Comment.
@@lewcehjitl3282 Yep you got it. It's all about me, and you should do you.
Hi, and what about 1080p, does it has same quality like fx3? So sharper than a6xx0 series without line skipping? Thank you:)
Good Question - good HD is a bonus.
If I used the Sony 15mm F1.4 and then used clear image zoom (the rocker switch) what would be the Fstop equivalent fullfame.
Definitely not 1.4, apply the crop factor but this is a highly debatable subject. Light wise, a crop 1.4 is definitely darker than using in a full frame aspect.
I was originally going to the FX3 and upgrade my A7 IV but I'm glad I didn't because the A7 IV matches the FX30 way better. You want to get the A7S III or ZV-E10 with the FX3.
Can you do a follow up on it covering still shots?
Great idea. Anything out there showing what the still shots look like?
Does the fx30 color science match with a74?
I have done side by side comparisons with the GH6 in low light. Can Sony get more detail out of the shadows at high ISO, and less noise? Yes, but the GH6 processes the images with a more natural looking image. There is a lot of digital blooming on the Fx, and artificial push/look and feel. If that is what you want, then awesome...buy one. But for me I prefer the look of the GH6 in low light...let the haters comments begin...lol
Dude nice vid, nice info bit the background clicky music I cany bear it man. Too loud for this vid BTW.
Sick Overview Manny!! Think I'm grabbing this to go with the FX3. Hated the ZV-E10 for the rolling shutter but love the APSC line for the lens sizes and overall cost. I think the 11mm 1.8 and 18-105 F4 will be a killer combo on this body.
James - if I bought the FX30 with the Sony 15mm F1.4 and then used the zoom rocker switch (X1.5 magnification) is the F stop still equivalent to fullfame F2.1
@@markshirley01 Yes I believe so because you are only cropping in on the image not changing the size of the sensor. But honestly I would need to look that up to confirm.
@@JamesDBuzzard thanks for the reply 👍 if thats the case - I love the idea of such a small versatile set up.
FX30 has bad rolling shutter too bro
@@ItsBerg rolling shutter is considerably better than on any of the previous Sony aps-c cameras
Manny compare it with the canon c70 !!!!☺️
Do you think this is Sony's effort to do with Cinema focussed cameras, what they did for mirrorless photo cameras with the original a7iii? It seems they are throwing all their latest tech at it and then offering it at an insanely competitive price. Is this their 'land grab' moment in the affordable cinema camera market? What do you think?
You confused me there. Why wouldn't you get "full sharpness" using aps-c lens on an aps-c body?
Those G lenses are optically excellent
I need this camera🤤
Why not buy a BMPCC 6K (apart from the autofocus)
Hey Manny, Great video! Do you know what the photo burst rate is in photo mode? I do a lot of wedding films and promo work and also portraits. Considering upgrading from my a6400 because it's slowing me down. Hopefully you can answer my question!
It's single shot only, with no mechanical shutter. Completely crippled for photos unfortunately.
@@JamesClark1991 dang, understandable though. Thanks for the help!
@@JamesClark1991 its not crippled for me in photo as I rarely shoot continuous high frame rates. I pretty much always shoot single shot, if its touch screen AF in photo is fast Im OK. But Ive no experience with Sony so Id need to test a FX30.
One option is to shoot 4K @ 120FPS with the highest shutter speed the situation allows, then extract stills! See Patrick Murphy Racey's YT video on this.
You should have put on the Sigma 16mm on it.. that’s what I want to see
On the a6600 right now. All I need to see is the low light difference between the two and i'm basically sold
Same
I totally thought APSC was dead after the ZV-E10 😅 I was wrong.
I assume you can't shoot ocf with the fx30?
I think the Lumix S5 is the best video camera under $2000
Why is it that every person reviewing the FX30 keep stating there are only 2 differences being sensor size and black vs grey 1/4-20 holes? The face off the cameras have different tally lights (oval on fx3 and round on fx30) and a small oval shape on the right hand grip. Oh, also the FX3 says "FULL FRAME" directly underneath the lens mount. That is all.
Best 'video' camera under $2000 is Lumix S5; with the advantages over this FX30 being full frame sensor and a full-fledge stills camera as well. I know your challenge was rhetorical, but hey you 'asked'! LOL!
I’m so glad someone brought this up! S5 has been so underrated and deserves so much for the features its got
Maybe this will be the final nail in the coffin of the M4/3 line of cameras/lenses?
