  • I'm still recovering from my surgery. It's going well, but taking a little bit longer than I expected. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their well wishes regarding my surgery as well as the death of my mother. ❤️
    Monsoon Season Continues and We Have a New Team Member!
    I do want to try to keep busy but also comply with my doctor's orders. So small projects around the homestead are what are in order. In this video I build a bookshelf for the workshop, and Yvonne and I check out the property after a heavy rain.
    And our newest team member named #John Deere arrives on the homestead!

    It has been a educational monsoon season for sure. Next year we will have a better understanding of where all the water likes to travel.

    Yeah, a back, even a thin one, really does add some real strength to a cabinet. Glad you did that. 8 openings need 9 shelves, that's an easy "senior moment" for lots of us to reverse.

      The first senior moment was cutting the 2 side pieces 6 feet long instead of 5. But hey bigger really is better right?😉 Thanks for watching!

    The new tractor is looking good. =) Now you only need to rack up the hours behind the wheel to level up the different skills that go with it as well. =)
    And I have to say I love the aftermath of the rains you guys get. The trees go green and every tree has a circle of green beneath it as well.

    Bill hope you heal up well. A few thoughts. I was kind of wincing when I saw no backboard on your utility shelf. Mostly because I think I am the all time champion of knocking things off of shelves, tables. etc. Smart re-use of the backing of the old shelf. That is one beautiful little tractor. I particularly like that large metal square shade awning built into it. Glad to see that the crazy amazing rains we are having havent caused no end to unrest for you folks. All the best - Don

    We get more than our share of rain in North Carolina and we do loose some bridges from time to time but we are usually safe from house flooding. Kudo's on the shelf. Always fun to use scrap wood for something. Specially because of the cost. I've made a few Adirondack chairs from scrap. Love your show.

    Good to see you up and around. We’ve had a reprieve from the monsoons up here in Flag the last week or so, but they’re back gif the next 6-9 days. 24 inches+ in a month was crazy. But I’m not complaining, we all need the water. Good to see the tractor arrived. Now you can really do work! 👍🏼

    Cool tractor. I have an older john deere 4120. The box blade is great. I think where you live a pto mulcher might be handy as well. Where i live, in Illinois, a brush hog is a most used attachment. Also got forks and hay spear for round bale. Getting a hook on the bucket is good as well. Titan makes a pallet fork attachment that also has a receiver. They also have a 3 point attachment that has a receiver hitch.

    • @theupsideofdownsizing
      @theupsideofdownsizing  2 роки тому

      Okay Greg reading your comment was just too weird. Where's the hidden camera. Where do I begin? Okay I agree the box blade is awesome and doing the road is a lot easier with that device rather than trying to drag a front loading bucket backwards I've already ordered the forks from Titan with 42 inch no sorry 48-in tines with the 2-in receiver attachment. I considered a mulcher but looking at the prices it was just too expensive I mean one that works with my tractor you're talking at least two grand and that's just more than that money than I want to spend on that right now. And you'll see in the next video, just today I attached hooks and a shackle on the front loader bucket. I got the items from
      BoltOnHooks.com.

    If you want to speed up the last 20% look at making some kind of "gravel drag".. that tractor hs an awesome turning radius so it wouldn't have to be that wide. I lived on gravel roads for years and a good drag really smooths things out much quickers than back blading or box scrapping once you've got thing level-ish. Pro-tip. Drag after rain, keeps the dust down...

    • @theupsideofdownsizing
      @theupsideofdownsizing  2 роки тому +1

      I was looking into that today. We got hammered last night. 3 inches of rain. First thing this morning I was transforming our road from a wash back into a road again with the box blade. It worked great being softer, bit of course the sand is a lot heavier when wet. But I was thinking of a dragging device just to smooth out not onli the road, but our property everywhere I drive the tractor. Thanks for the advice!

    Installing 2 rear hydraulic rams
    1. For the top link (pitch)
    1 for the right link (tilt)
    makes running the scrapper a lot easier...
    Most of us that ran Skiploaders every day (career)
    Had 3 hydraulic rams on the back
    Plus hydraulic rippers....
    Makes life so much easier
    Plumbing rear hydraulics
    (Push on a valve === extends
    Pull on the valve. ==== retracts)
    First valve. === right tilt
    2nd valve. === top ram. Pitch
    3rd valve. === left tilt
    4th valve ==== hydraulic ripper
    **** 99% of the adjustments during a day. Is right tilt. and pitch.
    Plus of course the up and down
    Personally since most of my job was fine grade
    I sat side saddle. Right hand on the up and down
    Left hand bouncing back and forth between steering wheel and first 2 valves
    Holding the steering wheel with left leg...if need be
    Body being as far turned around as reasonable... makes running the back scrapper so much easier
    If you are scratching your head
    as to why...
    Some jobs required no more than 1/4 inch high or low...
    Los Angeles Internation Airport for one
    Where Ever they want it
    L.A.X. all around terminal 1
    Where the planes come in and park..

    Great tractor. You'll really find it useful! Good rule of thumb for longevity- give EVERY grease Zerk a shot either after finishing a job or first thing before you use it again. It really doesn't take that long, plus you quickly learn where they all are.We did this with farm equipment for years and seldom had a part wear out. Yes, some things will wear out, but grease is much cheaper, especially when "Green" parts are needed. On the health page, continue to take it easy. It'll pay off in the long run. Best wishes. I know there will be more cool vids coming now.
