This has to be the most heartbreaking end to a major of all time man. aMSa finally made it to grand finals after 8 years, and looked so poised to at least reset the bracket. He's still continually made such impressive strides this year; it's only a matter of time now until he takes a major win home.

This set is like Game of Thrones; the early portion is so goddamn good and it's honestly one of the best of it's kind, but now that I know how it ends, it makes it harder to rewatch because I don't wanna relive the pain

Cody played amazingly, but man... aMSa will always be my favorite Melee player for taking this weird, unique character so far in a game like this. Really incredible set.
iBDW was between happiness and feeling sad how aMsa lost that way, such heartbreaking moment, I mean, this reminds me how Westballz lost against Fly Amanita back in the day.

@@jasmithyantro9680 I think everyone understands it, but as a player you also feel robbed. You didn't win because you outplayed your opponent, but because they made a mistake. Besides, they are friends, so of course you'd feel bad when your friends dies to something stupid.
amsa making it to grand finals in a melee major as a yoshi solo main is still no small feat... we should all be proud of our fave red yoshi and the day when he takes a major or a supermajor will come soon :) he's so close!!!!

Wow, that was beautiful, the yoshi's movement, the egg snipes, fox's movement, the combos and the end of game 5 was one of the hypiest moment ive seen, congratulation to iBDW for winning and still congratulation aMSa for being 2nd
aMSa is legitimately the only reason I was even on a Maylay stream, so this is heartbreaking. I liked him since Day 1.
Game five was a "Noooo" moment. I would had loved a second match between those two. Asma will just have to try again next time, hopefully by then he will have a better match up understanding of McCloud drill shine.

aMSa played amazing but Cody’s precision was unmatched this tournament. Even during the S2J match you could tell he was playing just that bit cleaner.

It's fun now coming back to this video. Everyone was sad that he came so close, but didn't win a major...and then right after this he went and won three, and now ranks above Cody 😎

Christ the commentary was like a bunch of high school kids joking in a basement somewhere, laughing like dunces and straying a lot from the action. On the other hand, what a sick set! Aside from some crucial flubs, I think aMSa played out of his mind. This whole tournament just reinforced what a contender he is. All the big guns better watch out.
No shade, but for grand finals, this commentary needs work
I understand that commentary is very hard and people have different preferences, but I really wish they’d had a different team for this or maybe just different sensibilities.
This was fine for like Pools or some Summit matches, but for Grand Finals of a major, I kind of want more discussion of the stakes and “narratives” when the gameplay/matchup itself isn’t being discussed.
Bobby Scar has a lot of areas he’s not as good at, but emphasizing what the outcome means to both players as the hand is going on is something Scar really has a skill for.
Something about aMSa's just stimulates a part of my brain that nobody else in the world can. He's godlike, at his best he can best anybody in the world, but something about his play is so raw and human.
Looking forward to that major win from aMSa, and of course congrats to Cody. Focus goes to aMSa naturally, but Cody no doubt played out of his mind.
Hot take. aMSa IS the best player. He plays Yoshi at a top 5 level and usually only loses to his own mistakes because of how technical he has to be to even stand a chance against the top tiers. Easy to say 'what if he played x character instead' but just seeing how far he has brought Yoshi just shows how damn skilled he is by itself.
He'll get his first major soon.

You have to be super precise and technical with yoshi. So yeah most people agree he's the most impressive player at the moment solely for almost winning a major with yoshi.

Am I the only one who really disliked the commentary during Top 6? It felt like watching a tournament with 2 best friends who are constantly making "LUL SO RANDUM" inside jokes while the rest of the crowd/stream had absolutely no idea what they were talking about, and they're just cracking up about everything.
No kidding it felt like I had to listen to Beavus and Butthead the whole match

I think it shows how much your efforts and determination are loved by everyone when even your opponent is genuinely like "oh no" when you have a moment like that
I feel like after like 8 years of watching Melee I finally feel secure enough in my opinions to say that I think I hate Fox kills.
Fox has really sick neutral and combos but I feel like I roll my eyes more than anything when a Fox snags a kill with Up-Smash or Up-Air like eeehhhh I think it's kind of dumb how absolutely overpowered moves like that are.
Cody is still a goated Fox player though.
its honestly what drags down melee as a spectator sport for me. the meta is always changing but it still feels too weighted around Fox's kill moves. this was some of the best melee matches I've seen in ages, owing to slug and amsa bringing variety to the match ups.

aMSa has only gotten better this year, from aM5a to grand finals, he's getting better and will win eventually, for now I'll just appreciate the fact we have a real question mark for #1 this season!
