Very wizzy-esqe patience from johnny, outclutching the clutchgod shows how much he's leveled up recently. s2j could really take this whole thing if he plays this well tomorrow.
Great to see S2J get his first offline win vs Hbox. I've seen him study Wizzy vs Hbox videos and S2J def incorporated some Wizzy stuff into his own playstyle to take the dub here. Very cool to watch, love to see the grind pay off.
take note that the very last interaction was hbox jumping to the right to land a roll read with a rest, but instead of rolling, s2j does a knee and catches hbox with full right DI into his death
That’s a great example. S2J this set adjusted on the fly so well and his pressure was perfect. I specifically liked how when Hbox would shield on the side platforms, S2J was pressuring his shield from center stage, but at one point realized that Juan was positioning his shield towards him to prevent a shield poke, but Johnny faked him out and landed a knee from the other side EDIT: 18:11
TreytheTrashman is a really hype commentator! It takes a lot to be following high level melee while it's happening and be ready to pop off with the competitors. Especially when you're next to a veteren like Toph who's usually the more subdued and cerebral voice, it's nice to get some visceral disbelief mixed in.
I can't believe that no one is talking about that missed rest at 10:16. S2J saw HungryBox's SDI up on the first two hits of the gentlemen and REACTED to shield the rest. Absolutely bonkers. Watching it back its almost too quick to catch
I wish we had these 2 commentating the top 8 block, I love the two that were, but they were just making inside jokes and laughing the entire time. These guys actually provide good commentary and say whats happening in game.
If I had a nickel for every time Hungrybox was upset by a Captain Falcon player at a supermajor tournament in a set that went to game 5 on Battlefield concluded by an abrupt finishing move in 2022, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's strange that it happened twice.
I haven't watched melee for a couple years, and now I come back and Johnny is way better than when I left. Watching him play, it's apparent that he's put in the work. I'm loving this new timeline.
Felt like for a long time S2J actively avoided some of the Falcon Puff strats that made Wizzy so good at the matchup. Probably thought it was a "lame" playstyle like a lot of the Fox strat that top Foxes use and Mango doesn't. This felt like a turning point where S2J really developed and embraced new ideas. Wizzy and n0ne kind of left him behind in the past couple years but it'd be great if S2J had a level up now.
That was so much fun to watch, as a fan of captain falcon and Hbox. something about the match up is so enjoyable on multiple levels for me. And yes I laughed at the first stock stomp as much as Hbox did.
Love the mention by the commentators about Falcon's Up B to catch people shielding on platforms. The move isn't as strong as in Ultimate but there is definitely some (albeit situational) untapped potential in it.
You don't see partially charged smashes on puff because smash attacks don't combo into anything vs puff. Only exception is like doc up smash that I can think of (or peach smash -> turnip shenanigans, or ICs shenanigans I guess which you do see).
Did Trey compare Hbox to aMSa and say that everyone likes him? Hbox is one of the most divisive players in the community, there are plenty of people who hate him
Friendly reminder that Hbox is EXPLICITLY WEAK to Meteor Smashes bcus he uses tap jump and inputting up on the controller when you're getting Meteor Smash'd causes you to get locked out of the meteor cancel window Also GOOD SHIT JOHNNY
Yea yea everyone wants to bully Hbox for losing as usual but at least he is showing up to tournaments unlike some players who drop out and only go once a month. Hbox has always been one who goes to as many tournaments as possible which is something that should be praised more often. Going to more tournaments means that you have more chances to win but also more chances to lose which happened here. Remember that Hbox JUST WON GOML less than a week ago and proved that he is still capable of winning tournaments which is something that mango hasn't done. Mr. Mango who just had his first top 8 appearance this year decided to drop out even though he said he really wants to shut the doubters up and win. Kind of a weird choice to play mario kart and get drunk two days before a major event but oh well I guess. Big ups to HGOD for being a proper competitor and going to as many tournaments as possible even if it leads to poor performances sometimes.
Uhh… wizzrobe has beaten him a few times, notably twice to win SnS 5. n0ne has taken him down a couple times also. Still both positive for Hbox but this isn’t exactly a foreign concept for him to lose to falcon. It IS foreign for him to lose to Johnny, though. Can’t even remember the last time that happened, if at all.
Melee players take extra blue pill injections so they gotta dumb it up twice as hard as everyone else. Same reason there's fuckin pronouns by the players' names.
S2J has had a lot of heartbreak throughout his career, it's great to see him get huge wins like this
Let it be known that no one beats S2J 22 times in a row
It's the Sfat meme but real
Bro 🤣
Hahah I’m dying xd
Very wizzy-esqe patience from johnny, outclutching the clutchgod shows how much he's leveled up recently. s2j could really take this whole thing if he plays this well tomorrow.
That wasnt the s2j i knew , but he was super fast , i felt like he played the wizzy patience mixed with b0nd agro .
Speaking of wizzy, where Ian he at?

It takes a certain maturity to incorporate someone else's playstyle if it'll get you the win.
Full circle. Years ago, there is a vod of young qizzy quietly sitting next to s2j studying the master.
take note that the very last interaction was hbox jumping to the right to land a roll read with a rest, but instead of rolling, s2j does a knee and catches hbox with full right DI into his death

thank you so much, this means a lot to me genuinely! I will continue to try and get better :D
Literally a case study on the matchup, what an educational and amazing set
I can't believe that no one is talking about that missed rest at 10:16. S2J saw HungryBox's SDI up on the first two hits of the gentlemen and REACTED to shield the rest. Absolutely bonkers. Watching it back its almost too quick to catch
epic set. mad props to both
the rise of s2j lately. he clearly leveled up hard and this performance was peak so far. LFG!
This is some of the best commentary I’ve heard
Ridiculous set. All the qualities of an instant classic... that last game was such a beautiful climax
S2j has rebuilt himself.
That was some wild Falcon, gg

Absolutely phenomenal play from Johnny!
Really mature play from S2J.
The last two stocks Johnny took were classic examples of hbox DI lol
I haven't watched melee for a couple years, and now I come back and Johnny is way better than when I left. Watching him play, it's apparent that he's put in the work. I'm loving this new timeline.
Same. Im coming back to it now and theres so many new faces in the scene but im most surprised that johnny is a "rising star" all of a sudden.

Bro, this IS s2j’s level up, did you see how he played this tourney?? That’s some of the best melee johnnys ever played
I like how both n0ne and S2J beat Hbox at the end completely according to their playstyles. A completely random stomp and an unsafe knee.
Well Someone had to take Hbox’s Ego down a notch.
And mang0 sure isn't stepping up to do it
Really great platform play from Johnny. Knee confirms were insane as well. GGs.
That was the worst DI on a knee ever seen
LETS GO JOHNNY!!!
Hbox DI
20:10 S2J did the same head grab in the TBH5 Abate set after he died from Invincible Ceiling glitch.
I often forget how fast S2J is, holy moly
Yeah so clean too. Very very few tech flubs even with all those wavelands and crazy movement.
That was so much fun to watch, as a fan of captain falcon and Hbox. something about the match up is so enjoyable on multiple levels for me. And yes I laughed at the first stock stomp as much as Hbox did.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS, FUCK YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SICK TWO JEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
0:33 I love Hungry Box's face. What else can you do but laugh?
You don't see partially charged smashes on puff because smash attacks don't combo into anything vs puff. Only exception is like doc up smash that I can think of (or peach smash -> turnip shenanigans, or ICs shenanigans I guess which you do see).
why does it say in the bracket, that hbox got DQ'd against s2j even tho they evidently did play it out?
Revenge for armada s2j Genesis set
not me popping off and waking up half my house watching the end of this VOD
13:45 commentators talking about HBox's face while S2J throws out SEVEN knees in a row! XD
Unbelievable Falcon gameplay
Fuck yeah, I love to see S2J winning
12:12 this frame one scar jump tf also I knew Johnny was taking this after the Falcon kick
If I’m not wrong that’s a doraki wall jump
Did anyone notice the random star ko effect that popped up at 14:43 even though hbox wasn't even close to the top of the stage
what?
?
the sound when he got stomped?
@@ABC-ik9vj Bruh your name is the alphabet. You bring the letters with you in case you forget how to spell? 💀
@@ABC-ik9vj Why ABC bruh? Is it cause those are the only letters you can remember? The first 3 letters of the alphabet?💀
I am so fucking happy for S2J! I jumped up so fast when he won.
LETS GOOOOO
That was sick!!!
The fact that this was recommended to me on the front page kind of spoiled the outcome lol
Did hbox really just die from ftilt and knee at 58% from center-stage?
hbox DI
But in reality both times he was doing fade back pressure vs s2j and did not expect to get hit, so when he did it was straight out DI
N0ne hit the stomp of death on Hbox, now Johnny hits him with the knee of death.
Legend!!
If hbox had won, he would have done a cringe ass huge pop off, johnny just looked amazed and grateful for the win
The second tournament where Hbox got upset by a falcon in winners quarters that went game 5
Duuude what the heck. This is the first time for Jonny right?
shoutouts to the chair

DI has left the chat
HELL YESS S2J
Shout-outs to Jesus!

so game one popoffs are just standard for him now?
Unfortunately
Taunt to get bodied

Best commentary !!! 😊😊
im not scar!!!! lolol
LETS GOOO
Grats S2J!!!!!!
S2J forever my favorite Falcon
Even I popped off when Hbox hit the rest in the first set.
12:12 was that an wall jump?
think it was a doraki wall jump
JOHNNY!

I hope this is Hbox's mom
Take your meds
This is creepy, Go outside enjoy your life
this gotta be a copypasta
Hbox finna have a good loser run though
He has SFAT who could beat him, 7th place against Slug or jflex seems pretty free, then 5th is either Zain or Amsa. It's gonna be rough
Should be some good matches though.
