I can't wait to see the video of Junkman discussing the mail away kryptonite he talked about. I'm sure it'll be one hell of a recollection from his youth.
I had this as a kid in like 2nd grade. I took it to school, to show to my friends. Even came in the same box you showed in your video. I was amazed by it too. Gosh, miss those days.
Later on they decided that the luminous paint was costing too much so they just left the rocks plain and sold them as "Pet Rocks", and to this day there are a lot of people walking around with their heads full of them.
LOVED the Kryptonite Rock! They were ALL over back then, the local theater had them stacked behind the concession stand like a Superman repellent wall! I totally loved mine! In retrospect surrounding all of us with something that would kill Superman was not the BEST way to show our love for him...but we were kids! Yes, they came wrapped in that paper in the box- and I have a Kryptonite rock in the box, with that paper, in my office. It's a wonderful, tangible pat of my childhood and I Loved that part of my life!
I don't remember how I got these, it seems I got them from a store or as a gift. I remember the box and the paper, yeah it was different. The box and paper was lost probably 40 years ago. My box had 2 rocks. I remember one being triangular. I loved glow in the dark stuff. I think I used it more as a paperweight or something. I do remember showing my sons and it still glowed. I'll have to check a couple boxes to see if I still have them but I think I probably lost them in a move about 14 years ago. The rocks I had were like the 3 shown at 6:48. Green, but had a lot more white on them. Great memory Junkman! 😃👍
John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, ba da da da da da! Yeah, glow in the dark was big in the late 70s, early 80s. I had a Creature from the Black Lagoon model that glowed in the dark, on my bed stand. Used to think it was radio active plastic, and you could make an atomic bomb if you had a chemistry set. One of those stupid things you believed as a kid.
I had that and it glowed in the dark. It was a real rock everyone was different it came in that box if you still have one it still glows today. Not just a week Junkman.
Superman's true weakness is Lois Lane. I know these figures were released at different times, but I think it would be really awesome if you got the mail away Kenner Clark Kent figure and had him waiting around for the Kryptonite in the mail. I'm way more of a Batman fan, too, but I absolutely love Christopher Reeve as Superman. Thanks for the video
I remember that ad. Then I found them at Toys R Us. I got it and played with it with my Super powers figures. I got a larger one at the Superman Museum in Metropolis Illinois. I was disappointed they didn't have the different colors: red, blue, gold, and white.
Oh man just read issue 54 leia crashes on shiva IV disarms a antimatter bomb left by the empire lando chewy and Luke defeat skar an imperial dreadnought shows up to attack the falcon so Luke flys into a black hole the empire follows and gets sucked into nothing but Luke uses the force to safely guide him back out. Awesome 😎 issue Junkman please tell all these good people what they’re missin in the original comic series.
We had a pirate antenna before everyone had cable. It picked up a movie channel called Stars I think. After a while it became the movie channel or something similar. That's all I can think of before I heard about HBO. As for the kryptonite, I thought it was pretty neat but didn't want to buy a rock. So I asked my dad to get some luminous paint so I could make my own. He never did get the paint.
didn't needed it; each winter was full of "kryptonite"; not green maybe, but you needed only one icecycle to pretend making the f.o.s.; you had fun just throwing it in the snow. Lex Soar 7 was also cool for its kryptonite; maybe in part for its starwars vibe with the container behind seat... seeing it now, I don't remember it; was certain it looked like Mask's Switchblade
TG&Y boy those were the days. Mom would go to the A&P for groceries and let me and my brother walk to the TG&Y next door to look at the toys. We were like 8 and 9, but it was 1981-82. A different world, my Mom would be locked up nowadays.
@@pauljoyner4338 It was pretty much the same for me in the 70's. About 6 miles from our house was a small shopping center consisting of an Eckerd's Drug Store, a Winn-Dixie grocery store, a TG&Y and a Green Stamps store. It was Eckerd's for comic books, TG&Y for toys and the Green Stamps store when we had enough books of green stamps saved up. Mom would be in Winn-Dixie buying groceries while I went to the other stores.
This was an informative video. I never heard of these Kryptonite rocks, nor Ski soda (apparently it's only sold in the Southeast) nor do I know the song ,,, "I've got girlfriend in Cincinnati"
She's such a good listener. She's a keeper.

I remember seeing it in comic ads. I never realized Dusty was missing a hand before. What are you drinking, junkman? Bottled what? 😂😂😂
I had one of those. My Mom scent for it. It was not one of those longevity toys you kept around. I basically saw it glow green and got bored.
I remember this from comics in 77/78

I remember these rocks were everywhere 1977 and even at toys r us until about 1991.
Someone made money off of gathering up random rocks and painting them to call them kryptonite.
Honestly at least it wasn't actually radioactive. Probably.
@@jeremygregorio7472 Look up radium.
Someone also became a millionaire NOT painting rocks and calling them PET Rocks.
I waited the who video and you didn't drink it!😂
We got duped
Where Dey sell bottled skeet at

As a kid dressing up as Superman for Halloween I use to pretend those green glow light sticks were Kryptonite crystals.

I find it amusing that the comic book ad had a disclaimer saying the story in in ad was fiction.

Ironically, the stuff they put in old stuff to make it glow, radium, is radioactive.
But still at a safe level. It's probably like a 1/100 of going thru TSA

I got this at the ‘78 movie. Loved it.
I was so disappointed when I got mine, It looked nothing like the kryptonite in the movie. But did love that it glowed in the dark
What that bottle of Ski reminds me of is that Kentucky Headhunters song. :)
I think Junkman watched a movie called "Just Ass League" in the hotel.
Seen it! It was on just after 'Shaving Ryan's Privates!" 🇬🇧😁🇺🇲
Hey, liked the video. Good format.
As I recall, this would have been in the era of pet rocks. And for $2.50, it was reasonably priced.
I so remember these rocks.

I didn't know about the Superman Rock.
Hide yer smokes fellas, Dustys in da hoooouse 🎉
I got mine at a flea market in the 80's

Hey junk man, if you still want one of these I have one. It’s out in my backyard. I swear it came from a real green paint meteor.
Dusty where is your other hand
I had one of these!! I got it at a flea market. I remember the glowing didn’t last all that long.
Radioactive rock ! Maybe that why Junkman turned out the way he did ?? 😂😂😂
Yeah, I remember that ad in the comic books. I remember thinking how stupid it was.
I remember seeing an ad for it in one of my old comic books, it looked kinda cool, but that was about it.
I had some of that Kryptonite, but I didn't send off for mine, I got it at TG&Y.

Why is there a picture of Superman on this Kryptonite rock box? Shouldn't it be Lex Luthor? Lol
5:04 The Cable Channell , The Movie Channell Maybe ?
i think Home Cinema Entertainment but not sure, i need to ask my brother
Also now I have to try ski cola been around since 1957 and I’ve never tried it, I wonder if they even have it up here in yankee land ?
As corny as this is, it was gifted to me by a close friend and I love it. Still, it’s just a painted rock -Mysterion
LexLuthorKryptonitegreenrock, his name is my name too!
The real question is, Junkman .... If u got one unopened Kryptonite rock" mailer" today- Would you open it?
Yes!!
I always wanted one of those. My mom always talked me into getting something else at the store. I guess she didn’t want to spend the money on a rock.
i have the rock! i forgot what it came from! thanks for the video
Might want to rethink that bottle positioning next time they're, Junk Man 😉
I remember the comic book ad never ordered it though

I have it!!!
I had no idea Kentucky Headhunters were singing about a pop I’ve never seen before. I thought they were singing about a bottle of whiSkEY.
