My two favourite singers where Joe Cocker and Billy Holiday, different decades , but it would have been something to see those two on the same stage together
It would have been great for this to be longer, Paul knows his music, it touched on some blues there, would have been great to see him if longer on the blues artists...
Awesome. Ethiopiques.. amazing. Saw them a few years ago at w.o.m.a.d. in wiltshire. One of the best gigs i've ever been to. I was smoking a cohiba and had a bottle of jack in my hand which added to the spillunk 😀
Love your choices!! Love the Jam as well. Grew up with your music. Was hoping you would include the amazing and eternal music of Nick Drake!! Maybe a special video on his music and influence? Glad you were part of a skin too few. Excellent documentary 😀.
I do. If you are still living in the late 70's early 80's....and haven't grown up musically...his choices would definately make you "scoff". But fortunately Paul(and myself)...have grown up since then! : )
Philmod68 Some ppl are simply narrow minded to music and don't change. . . But some of us have a curious ear to all music that grows on us the more we hear it and respect the Intel 👍
I find it hilarious that some people are "disappointed" in someone else's music tastes. How insecure are you people who get offended that someone else doesn't love the same artists you do? Also the title of this video is very misleading. The actual title is Paul Weller - What's In My Bag? That's the reason why his picks are all over the place and don't feature any of the usual suspects that you expect when talking about favourite artists of all time. He's simply browsing through Amoeba's selection and picking stuff he's interested in checking out.
Sick of everything some people just don't get it do they? Naivety, narrow mindedness and stupidity can be very frustrating... This is making me really angry. I've got to stop scrolling down the comments... and Weller seems like such a lovely, down to earth bloke. I just don't get it
PS. He has a very very very very very a good musical taste. Rodriguez ( THE BEST OF THE BEST), t-rex, rock brasileiro (mutantes, gilberto g...) tame impala, a little bac music, yeaah!
Go on paul get some insperations ill be waiting for the next set from you here in the u.s, and if you could add some more horn section, what ever it is its always true to form.
I long for the days of John Peel and the like who educated us to enjoy a wider spectrum of music like the recordings Weller picks. They are still out there but having a lower profile it is harder to educate people to look beyond their own nose. Judging by the comments here some people just want to stay in their own little 14-year old bubble and continue listening to the juvenile shite they first listened too when they were kids.
Wtf is Paul Weller? ahuahuahuhauhua...Jokes aside, he has a good musical taste. Brazilian rock, tame impala, I liked it! Haha ... everyone loves the good in Brazil!
Just because of what he plays and represents doesn't have anything to do with what he likes to listen to Should he just listen to the fucking small faces and the kinks forever ffs?
Morrissey71trfc Exactly. I'm not surprised by any of his choices here. And if anyone's a fan of his they should be able to hear many influences and elements from these choices in his own music.
Hmmm. Pseudo? You decide. Personally I always thought that The Clash and The Sex Pistols were way above The Jam, but that's just one man's opinion. As soon as The Jam drifted from their punk I was disappointed by them. Oh yeah, and he does seem to be trying out the Iggy Pop look here.
SuperEdge67 maybe you should open your ears and your soul and give it a proper listen then... and everything else Weller's put forward... use it as a platform to explore further.. broaden your horizons. Because that's a ridiculously senseless comment. You clearly ain't truely into music, just a very narrow window but that's the difference between people like you and me and Weller. Just makes people like Weller and myself who have a genuine appreciation for all kinds of music simply better than people like you. Proper taste makers mate and not blind brainwashed followers. Why even comment just because he's into more music than you are?
Daniel Blackman. ‘Makes me and Weller better than you’........you know nothing about me and you sound like a bit of a pretentious tosser. But thanks for the lecture
Always cool to hear other greats musical favourites.
He’s literally the best🤯
My two favourite singers where Joe Cocker and Billy Holiday, different decades , but it would have been something to see those two on the same stage together
Great selection from Mr Weller, very eclectic taste. probably not what some folks would imagine he'd listen to!
Yea,I love Paul to bit’s.But I can’t imagine that the stockhausen would get many plays. It’s interesting.Maybe I don’t really know him personally.
It would have been great for this to be longer, Paul knows his music, it touched on some blues there, would have been great to see him if longer on the blues artists...
Exquisite taste....What a cool dad!
having an eclectic taste in music is being real! I'm 71 and still love those old tracks but I love today's music as well. he chose some far out stuff!
Ramona Estrada I'll
. Look 09you
I love Paul weller because he was a mod singer with the jam but yet he has such a wide range of music
Awesome. Ethiopiques.. amazing. Saw them a few years ago at w.o.m.a.d. in wiltshire. One of the best gigs i've ever been to. I was smoking a cohiba and had a bottle of jack in my hand which added to the spillunk 😀
Brilliant choices.....
I love Cigarettes & Alcohol by T. Rex.
Love your choices!! Love the Jam as well. Grew up with your music. Was hoping you would include the amazing and eternal music of Nick Drake!! Maybe a special video on his music and influence? Glad you were part of a skin too few. Excellent documentary 😀.
I like Paul and his music, but not so much the music he likes, but that's what make us all have our own opinions and taste :)
Brilliant choices from PW. Don't understand comments from folks questioning these albums. Tropicalia, Rodriguez etc all great.
I do. If you are still living in the late 70's early 80's....and haven't grown up musically...his choices would definately make you "scoff". But fortunately Paul(and myself)...have grown up since then! : )
Right on!
Philmod68 Let Phil be an example to you all! Enjoy the music of your youth, but grow your tastes
Philmod68 Some ppl are simply narrow minded to music and don't change. . . But some of us have a curious ear to all music that grows on us the more we hear it and respect the Intel 👍
thank u for these videos.
He aged very well, very distinguished, great choice of music too.
Weller picked Rodriguez! FUCKING EPIC Love both weller and Rodriguez
Paul Weller is a great person
Thomas Beecham when asked if he had ever played any Stockhousen replied,"No,but I stepped in some once."
I find it hilarious that some people are "disappointed" in someone else's music tastes. How insecure are you people who get offended that someone else doesn't love the same artists you do?

Great records...brilliant picks
PS. He has a very very very very very a good musical taste. Rodriguez ( THE BEST OF THE BEST), t-rex, rock brasileiro (mutantes, gilberto g...) tame impala, a little bac music, yeaah!
PW is the Modfather don’t question his music tastes he knows more than you’d ever know
nice to see some Stockhausen in the mix! an enquiring mind..
Go on paul get some insperations ill be waiting for the next set from you here in the u.s, and if you could add some more horn section, what ever it is its always true to form.
Great taste
wow. eye opener
Tame impala are a joy.
love
Tame impala are from Western Australia about 2hrs south of Perth Paul. Your taste and passion for music is impressive!
Love how he is less I like strawberry raspberry blueberry, but more I like steak, avocado's, peaches. Open your ears.
Tame Impala, yeah!!!
eclectic taste
i fucking love this man
Most of PW selection reflects The Style Council era. Eclectic and excellent picks. Paul rocks.
good taste...
WOW!!!!!
has weller had a purple rinse
BATMACUMBA iêiê
BATMACUMBA obá
(brazilian homemade fuzz)
Rodriguez! I just got into him. Heard him on my college's radio. "I think of you" is EXCELLENT! Y'all haters don't know what you're talking about :P
Lonerism is Tame impala 2nd record and they (he really) is from Perth
Thats tame impalas 2nd album , just tossing that out .
elijah crump yea but with the ep you could say its kevins 3rd album
Lord Revolver
I guess you could if you considered ep' s to be albums
and theyre from perth not brisbane
James Thring two of the best places to get out of, so I understand his confusion.
This is heavily edited. They cut out the footage where he recommends Twisted Sister.
Rodriguez is great
interesting he chose T Rex as he gave The Jam a break on his Bolan TV show
ummmm...no....the jam would have made it anyway
and i love t rex by the way
He didn't say The Jam would not have made it, he just said Marc Bolan got them on his show, and he did.
" giant steps" trumps love supreme and you know it paul!
ee woz good in the Jam.
I found the intro and outro music the best there.

those etiopian musicians have done a version of walls come tumbling down

Gene Simmons EXPOSED - ua-cam.com/video/VLYnqCdX_iw/v-deo.html
Yes. Steve Marriott for ever. ...
Stopntripping Paul turned into a old hippy
fuck, thought this was PETER weller, i did
This is SO 6 Music lol
Ivy pop’s brother...younger or older
I grew up listening to THE JAM. What a shame you took it apart.
like
John Lennon: "Avant-garde is French for crap." 'Course, he would go on to give the world Revolution #9...
and yet he hanged out with avantgarde Yoko😏
i'm sure he'd cringe at being called modfather
This
Sorry but the zoom in/out chopping camera angles makes this very hard to watch.
did he give up alcohol? when? ty
05:00. Pretentious bullshit. Sort it out Paul!
He must be deaf.Mozart and Bach...that's music.
No
If Catweazle here was being honest it would be The Who, The Beatles and Dr Feelgood. The git.
Fucking hell, he doesn’t half listen to some shit..!!!!
Isn't it funny that i hate PW's music, yet like virtually everything he mentioned and you are the complete opposite.
?
It could have been worse. He could have picked the Style Council.
Bad wig
Hmmm. Pseudo? You decide.
Personally I always thought that The Clash and The Sex Pistols were way above The Jam, but that's just one man's opinion. As soon as The Jam drifted from their punk I was disappointed by them.
Oh yeah, and he does seem to be trying out the Iggy Pop look here.
No wonder his son Nat turned out like he did
i'm dissapointed that he doesn't favor ornette coleman and captain beefheart, but those 'artists'
Is this the man that wrote Billy hunt...?? Oh dear we’re doomed
All the music he talks of, has 60s undertones, the only reason he likes them. Otherwise you'd think he's on LSD
I think he’s just on lsd tbh
Yep always been a huge fan of Ethiopian music.........NOT.

Daniel Blackman. ‘Makes me and Weller better than you’........you know nothing about me and you sound like a bit of a pretentious tosser. But thanks for the lecture
and not even a nod to steve marriot or the small faces who he modelled himself on , oh well !?
Never heard of this helmet head doo..
Disapointed! Airy fairy crap is what i call these choices. Wheres the proper stuff like da Beatles, Small Faces, and the mighty Who?
Everyone knows Paul is influenced by those bands. As a Weller fan shouldn't you be interested where his other influences lie?
I bet he got that already, cant stant Beatles no more , overplayed.
To be fair, he did say "Da Beatles."
Everyone knows those bands through and through.... nothing wrong with discovering hidden gems
William Butler
He picks the obscure stuff to be "Cool" but its not, its shite!
His taste is more Style Council than Jam,a load of shit (from someone who considers The Jam the greatest band ever.)
dreadful
A lot of dross, which perhaps explains how duff his last 6 or so albums have been. Just mediocre and unremarkable.
Shud be playing bingo not jazz he looks like me nan 👎
No wonder the dude couldn't rhyme. He listens to terrible music.
