Oh no, not another EQ #MercedesBenz! I know what you’re thinking - #Mercedes make some butt ugly #ev 's don’t they? I mean seriously, they all look like eggs with car shapes painted on them. Utterly boring on the outside - yet annoyingly brilliant in terms of range, luxury and the superb interiors.
But with the EQE SUV, it might be the most normal looking of the bunch! I actually really think it looks decent. Maybe this is the Electric Mercedes we’ve been waiting for?
We have 3 different variants of this car, all of them use the same 96KW battery, and magnet based PSM electric motors --- First the EQE 350 + A RWD version with 292bhp and 565NM, and a 4Matic all wheel drive version of same. These are slow, with 0-60 measured at 6.8 or an eye watering 7.3 in rwd car.
The one we are testing today is the sweet spot -- the EQE 500 4matic - with 402hp it does 0-60 in 5.2 secs! Of course, if you want more power, AMG will sell you the EQE 53 AMG. This has 685HP, 1000nm and a sprint to 60 of 3.5 seconds, thanks to the AMG specific motors, fully variable 4matic and amg’s active ride control suspension.
The EQE SUV also brings changes like decoupling of the front axle (not unlike the 63 AMGs drift mode) in order to reduce energy consumption and increase range -- this is of course in the 4Matic versions of the car.
Today we will compare the car to the normal EQE sedan, the GLE, rivals like the IX and more. We will also look at the Hyper screen and basic screen variants of the interior to see which is better!

The hyper screen is worse because there’s so much blank space between the actual displays, of just black shiny glass reflecting back at you, if they filled the hyper screen out more it would work better I think but even watching through the video it was overwhelming
but I love that way

RBR, I'm with you on the (hate the) Hyperscreen. Too much bling. Less is more. The basic (if you can call it that) driver and centre console is smick. Love the adjustable downshift via the paddles (weel done MB). Not a fan of the black, or star glittered grill. Give me the AMG grill any day.
Great review, I agree re the Hyperscreen, I tested a similar EQE 500 & I own an EQA. The smaller screen is so cool. The Hyperscreen is no such thing, it's 3 ill fitting screens hiding behind a sheet of plastic. I hope I can order a 500 without it...? Thanks
I don't get EV design, they all use a flat platform, you can basically do anything you want above that platform , and they choose to make odd ball looking cars that nobody likes?

@@thetad1242 of course it's subjective, but have you ever seen an electric car that you would choose over ,say ,an Aston Martin? For the price most companies are asking for these things, you should be proud to drive them, not hide away in them!
The fake exhaust trims ARE different. The AMG-Line has two lines, and the real AMG has 3 lines where the exhaust would be.
Taycan is a sports sedan that is very low to the ground. Taycan Cross Turismo is a sports wagon not quite as low to the ground Not comparable to the EQE SUV but the Cross Turismo would be closer than the standard Taycan.
Running boards always look great UNTIL you have to continually climb out over (even slightly) dirty ones.

Well... What a 'breath of fresh air' to car reviews. I really was impressed. A 30 minute down to earth review that told me everything i wanted to hear on a car review! Just looking to buy one of the the EQC Mercedes, saw the EQE in the showroom and had to come home and google reviews and this one is exceptional! You even had computer images on the EQE of the drivetrain & then actual images and details of the AMG version along with a video.
I've subscribed instantly as you really gave a down to earth logical review, thank you.
I'd love an EQE but at £50k more than the out going EQC that I have been driving as a loan car for two weeks so far and I am reasonably impressed despite the age of the design, I just couldn't justify or afford the additional deposit required.

I agree with you on the dash. Even the non hyper dash I drove was way to high. Compared to the Genesis GV70 Electric the feeling of spaciousness and foreword visibility in the Genesis was much better. Overall I found the GV70 more comfortable, refined and quicker.
is there a 2 different ver? How come the EQE 500 I saw it doesn't come with that full digital dash?

I was left quite dissapointed by EQS SUV. If you remove the screens there is not much left of the car. Steering wheel is stressful to use because of the touch sensitive buttons and lag. Door handles only pop out when you have the key in the pocket. Passengers need to wave, count to five and do five squats to have them pop out.
Only good things are massaged seats, soft headrest when option ticked and good ambient lighting.

The new EQB, EQE suv and EQS suv looks better then the ICE cars they make. Mercedes are the only one doing it right in my eyes. The one in the video looks better then anything in the market. ❤
I agree the height of the dashboard is a bit high and you have sit at a level where the dash had to be able to see your eyes but I have to say the hyper screen is phenomenal in my eqs 580 4 matic and living with it it's fantastic and I can see downgrading to the normal one screen which makes the dash look like it's missing something.
EQB is the most normal looking ev benz
The EQB is the least interesting battery driven box they create. Not sure that is something to aim for
@@SevCars for the price of it, it is quite good EV. Driven both and the EQS SUV was quite stressful compared to the EQB. Stupid door handles, hyperscreen is barely usable in real life and touch sensitive controls drive you mad.
@@KarlkEst It depends what you look for in a car. If you are fine with low range, bad driving dynamics (since it is essentially a way heavier GLB) and unattractive looks, it may be the car for you.
Where did you drive the EQS SUV? I have driven all EQ cars as well several times, I always fine the EQS cars very relaxing. I don't get distracted by the hyperscreen, the only thing I dislike about it, is the curve for the instrument cluster behind the steering wheel is too flat imo. Can make it hard to see which speed you are going depending on your seating position.
@@SevCars EQS driving dynamics are nothing to rave about. Very heavy car with average suspension. Yes the EQB suspension is noisy at times but the ride quality is not that far off.
Range in real life was 400km for EQS. EQB managed 300km. Both were driven in Estonia and had a chance to find some snow as well with the EQS SUV.
@@SevCars They both are not great looking cats but EQB interior was usable. And EQB was better put together as the seats were not creaking like every other EQ series car I have driven.
YES (!!!) the "Basic" interior screen looks BETTER!! I originally loved the big screen, but after getting used to it, it seems too non-stylish. The body has more style than the sedan you reviewed. •••EVERYONE... WATCH HIS 3- DB11 REVIEWS: DB11 hardtop / soft-top / and the DB11 AMR (Aston Martin Racing). V12s and an AMG V8. EV's coming. why are the front bonnets fixed? why could they not include some storage space...? the hyperscreen is a complete gimmick, its just three screens that could have been implemented in the interior in a much more practical and aeshtetic way. The cut out of the screen behind the steering column is so jarring. THey need to bring back physical switches, and reduce the amount of screen. The last gen of mercedes car with the dual MBUX screen could have been evolved and improved incrementally instead of repalcing the whole system.
I like the design of EQC a lot more. At least it looks like an SUV. The EQE suv is really blobby looking.

I have an EQE AMG sedan on order, due to arrive in September. Seriously reconsidering now, although they haven't released prices or availability dates here in NZ yet for the SUV.

This is a very nice SUV but I am waiting for the GLE hybrid to come out as I am not ready to go fully electric yet.

What!!? Did you say that the EQC was an awful looking car! Couldn’t disagree more! 😢 EQC in fact looks a lot better than this one. Merc has a strange design direction nowadays, EQA and EQB looking so boxy. And I would go as far as saying «ugly». EQC is a very good looking car 😊

I wouldn't say that the EQE SUV has TONS of space in the boot. It's only 520L which is less than VW ID4 (535L) or skoda enyaq (585L) and those cars cost half the price. Audi Q8 etron has 569L of boot space AND a frunk. Tesla model y has alot more. So the boot in EQE SUV is nothing impressive, on the contrary

Car is awesome, but storage space is less. Also mileage is well above advertised numbers. My screen showing 305 mile for a 253 mileage car.

Why did Mercedes never make an EQS SUV AMG? Boggles my mind what Mercedes has been doing the last few years. 2019 was the last year of great AMGs
I love electric cars and mercedes is one of my preferences. MB EQE/-S, Tesla Y and Audi e-Tron Q4. (maybe Kia EV6)

I've never left a comment for anyone before, but felt obliged to do so in this in this rare circumstances as I found your video to be full of detail from start to finish which was highly commendable and .extremely interesting! I enjoyed your video very much and certainly makes a refreshing change to some who dare to call a 'review's one that is without any narration whatsoever, but instead comes purely with a video of the car travelling! It got only range up to 232 miles LOL and when the battery will be only charge up to 80% for long battery life then it will give only 200 miles, with a price tag $63000 USD, it too much.
Mercedes are losing their mojo. They need an electric c class sedan or, for that matter, a CLE. I look at your great reviews, and I go, " Yep, another boring urban assault vehicle that will never be taken off road"

Tesla continues to dominate the high priced pure BEV with their Model X as everything else remains nothing other than still 4 wheels, 4 doors and a steering wheel. Winner still Rivian and Lucid which continue to humiliate all German offerings in this segment as somehow worth the extra price not that that's stopping General Motors from trying to overcharge for e-Waste now suddenly.

The EQE looks like a beefier version of the GLA.
That Amg with the fake Americana grill oh my days is absolutely dreadful. This whole design culture on EVs is awful across most manufacturers, my next vehicle V8 petrol.
In the rear, one is sitting in an impossible angle, not comfortable at all. Compared to the interior of Genesis GV70 EV, Mercedes really needs to get their act together and stop using cheap hard plastic and just trying to impress with bling bling. The rear inner mirror is way to low, hindering tall or high sitting drivers to get an undisturbed view forward.
Those are some of the cheapest looking and boring seats.

I've been driving an EQE SUV loaner while my EQS SUV gets repaired. Neither one is good with bumpy roads / pot holes. You WILL feel the bumps. The suspension is stiff even in comfort mode! The EQS's massaging seats features a weak massage. So if you're looking for a plush ride and with a good deep quality massage, look elsewhere.

The hyper screen is hyper distracting. All in all Mercedes is getting better in EV but is still not par with Tesla and BYD.

I love this SUV outside and inside. It will be one of my choices when getting a new car in the next few months. I would also take the hyperscreen because it makes the SUV look amazing.
Mercedes have designed the most appealing EV dashboards. I despise flat screens on dashboards; it makes me feel like I'm behind my work PC! Further, flat screens just look soooo cheap.

Congrats! I got an i4 M50 in Feb. Loving it. Long wait was worth it.
@@aneebaba06was considering i4 but found out that it can’t handle long journeys well (it maxes out after 4 high speed carges within 24 hours, and decreases charging speed by 50%). I just drive 4.200 km in EQE and it handled it really well. Lots of 160-170 kmh in Germany.
