Been playing softball for 6 years, this has happened 100+ times and only once have I ever seen a fight actually break out, there is usually too man peacekeepers, which is a good thing!

Pitcher is the most dangerous position in slowpitch.
Theyve forced bats to be harder, faster. The ball is much harder than yrs ago, many leagues have been using the pitchers alley as a dead ball out. Hitting up the middle is danherous even in rec league. These guy dont use off the rack sporti g good bats, theyre ordered, the end cap is taken off, hydraulically rolled in a press, then lathed off inside by 1000th of an inch. End cap glued back on. It is terribly dangerous and they all do it. These bats from companies on the web can cost 600 or more dollars.

Some leagues, tournaments will call the game if it happens more than once. Teams are aware of the rule, be it written or unwritten. At the Major or Elite level with the high tech bats and live balls and short distance to pitcher, you'd have pitchers 0n stretchers left and right, if up the middle wasn't restricted. Wasn't that long ago that it'd be rare to see a pitcher wearing a mask. I've seen some gruesome involuntary face, nose, and dental jobs performed right there on the diamond.

Its one thing to go middle at this level where everyone has almost equal skill....its another thing when these guys go middle on league night vs a team thats just out there to have some fun and as a ASA/UTRIP umpire in so cal for 10 years i have seen it happen....
Most of you have never pitched i see. Its not about fielding your position its about not hitting a line drive when your 6'5 275 and can smash it out of the park. The pitcher is the closest to the hitter and dont really stand a chance protecting himself hint the catchers gear he is wearing. Middle is open after that so be ready for your pitcher to receive it right back.
They do have home run limits and pitchers do move to cover holes but I understand what you are saying.
I have not played in a few years but it was one of those understood things you did your best not to hit a ball up the middle for fear of killing the pitcher......
I played AAA then after played softball as a pitcher... growing up in chicagp learned playining 16 in unlimited arch.. so pitchinging 12" slow.. I could be standing behind 2nd base by the time the batter swung the bat... I could also control the pitch enough to prrevent a ball getting hit directly back at me... If bases we loaded with 2 outs.... I squared up and wanted the ball hit to me to knock it down or catch a line drive... If you have to play with gear as a pitcher... use a limited flight ball.
Most of these guys have probably never played baseball of fast pitch🤷🏻♂️ not real hard to hit a ball coming in at 15mph

I played baseball my entire life, and never had any interest in mens slow pitch softball. This is a perfect example of why.

I played I guess what you would call high level softball from right out of high school to around 30 years old and then starting playing baseball. Over 18 leagues until my mid 40’s and over 40 for the last 10 years. Never went back to softball and never will.
Me too. Played occasionally and the level of compete in some of these Johnny try hards can make it unbearable.

I've played softball for a very long time. I place the ball where I choose too. I don't go up the middle on the pitcher intentionally, if it's in their vicinity they get "my bad pitch". Now we do have an unwritten rule in softball, like baseball. If you go to my pitcher 3 times in a game with no apologies. Your pitcher now is a live target. We will hit piss missiles middle all day. Nothing more terrifying than a 100+mph grapefruit coming at your head.

never understand why people even get mad at that. its part of the game. when your on the mound, behind the plate, wherever, you will get contact somewhere. its bound to happen, just man up, take the hit and go to the next pitch... Its not like anyone can completely control that. a line drive to the mound is inevitably going to happen at some point.

I pitched in men’s slow pitch leagues and if the opponent kept coming up the middle and if I stopped the ball, you best just walk straight to bench. I’ve been known to throw the ball off a bit.

This is why we play modified softball with different ball: we all have careers and families to get back to. Plus fast pitching gives the game more of an edge. Then again we play with ex pro players too.

Doesn't get any better than this. The Budweiser signs, the Bud-Light signs. The batter throwing the bat harder than he hit the ball. The elephant like reflexes of the pitcher in full battle gear. The 5-infielder game plan. The smell of HGH and Adderall flowing. The arguing. The sheat talking. The batter flicking that bat as to get the perfect timing on the 10mph balloon coming his way. Yea, this has it all.
May not be as easy as you think but it is a blast to play.
@@sw48 Nooo, not saying it's easy. Played third-base on a few tournament teams and some pretty high-quality rec leagues filled with only D level teams. Nothing easy or "soft" about a softball coming off the juiced bat of a 300lb guerilla on steroids. Just the video is chock full of the typical slow-pitch softball stereotypes.

Just my opinion first I don't think the pitcher was intentionally throwing balls cuz if you notice they were not that bad. Some people would have swung at ball 3 and pulled it down the 3b line. Secondly I don't think Collins was actually aiming at the pitcher, I think he just took a hard swing at a 3-1 pitch and just centered it up on the bat. I don't think he would have hustled out of the box as hard as he did, plus he paid no attention to the ball after he hit it and just ran. I think all of this has to do with either the score at this point in the game or that he swung 3-1.... but who knows.

#15, 9 and the third player at 3:30 are the only ones with any brains or dignity. I've played softball for over 30 years. I've never taken the game serious for the simple reason that I have to work the next morning or on Monday after a weekend game. I'm not diving, sliding or fighting. None of those things feed my family. I played Div 3 football and club hockey in college so yes I'm competitive but not stupid.
Damn what bat was that????????. In the batters defense the pitch was outside. Most softball players only pull with pop so when you try to pull an outside pitch that can happen. Also The pitcher did have all that gear on

I've hit line drives at pitchers never meaning too normally I wave "My Bad" and afterwards check if pitch is all good. Times if I hit the pitch anywhere above the waist I just call myself out or walk cause I never mean to hurt them its an enjoyable sport to get outside play. This Catcher took too much offense if I were his teammate tell him go walk yourself home dude besides pitch is fine hit in foot sure its bruised but he'll walk.
You notice when the aggressive little man walking towards the dude cool as ice...The fact that he's calm and collected is one GIANT red flag not to fuck with him. The chihuahua of a man being all aggressive got a huge bark but that chin looks fragile lololol.

It's because it's considered unsportsmanlike. Most of those guys can hit anywhere, and going up the middle is often time intentional. It's hard to tell if anything happened to lead up to it but usually when people go up the middle you can see it coming. Not illegal but it's poor sportsmanship. Lower levels people usually don't care because when it does happen it's usually unintentional.
I pitch from 5ft behind the rubber and I back up on every pitch. Period
You won't catch me up in front of the rubber.
All I want is a catcher that will let it bounce and don't make me chase it when you throw it back.

I’m sorry but at this level hitting up the middle should be enough to get you tossed. Rec and maybe D I can see it. But once you get to C and above at that point players are pretty good with placing it. It’s not like the older days where balls weren’t leaving the bat at 90+ MPH
