If somebody brings a utrip bat to an ASA/USA only bat league - let them hit with that utrip bat and laugh at them. It's a disadvantage to use Utrip bats because they have the highest compression among the different standards.

The biggest gap through the infield is between shortstop and second. Nobody is suggesting to hit the ball AT the pitcher. But he is also right where the big gap is. The second the ball is thrown he is just another fielder. Get the glove ready and field the ball. Everyone takes it personally and assumes the batter is aiming at them. If EVERY batter is doing it that is a different story.

What balls are you guys hitting? Because if you're hitting USA / ASA balls, there is no advantage in using a USSSA-stamped bat; in fact most ASA bats are hotter because they're designed to hit the softer balls. I understand rules are rules, but calling it "cheating" is a bit harsh. You are absolutely right that (a) getting to re-bat after getting caught using an illegal bat is ridiculous. There's supposed to be a penalty, not a reward. and (b) the umpire should have called that box shot, and since it's a dead-ball call, he could have and should have called it as soon as he realized it, no matter the delay.
