I don’t mind paying for sample set up to 50 dollars. No more though. I think it’s a great way to get to know the house and choose what you really love rather then blind buying which we are all guilty off. I think it’s especially good for us perfumists with large collection to satisfy the Need to smell something new, rather then getting bottles of everything. I think I will be doing that in future for sure.
I love the Vetiver Insolent, such a lovely masculine smell that’s unique and changes on the skin. It’s the most expensive perfume that I own but it totally is quality in a bottle. It’s very sexy, smoky with a slight floral note. On the opening you can smell the lavender but it goes away very quick. The dry down has an incense type of smell but the vetiver is devine and I have to always have a bottle.
Your thoughts on selling samples was very interesting and makes a lot of sense! I have a travel spray of Tea Tonique and really love it. I just picked up a bottle of L'Air de Rien (on FragranceNet) and really like it - didn't get the BO vibe, lol. Great video!
With regards to what you said about La fumée ottoman. Miller Harris have a few of those people pleasing versions of powerful fragrances, Étui Noir is another one. It's supposed to be a leather scent, but it's somewhat mellow, inoffensive, in a quite English way - just like the English themselves are stereotypically terrified of offending anyone. I personally like Étui Noir, because I'm not so much into strong perfumes, and this is just strong enough, but I can see why some may find it a promise unfulfilled.
If perfume had noticeable amount of hydrogens peroxide it would definitely have discolored my clothes so far.On the other hand hydrogen peroxide is not bad, I use it as a mouth bath. About prices, I agree with you, the fact that niche perfumes became trendy raised the prices not the contrary. A lots of brands targets United States (LA, NY) such as Le Labo, Tom Ford and others. Niche perfumery in Italy or in the Middle-East targets another clientele that expect high quality ingredients and craft. I respect brands that offer a sample kit that is reimbursed when you purchase a full bottle (like a voucher) but some others really abuse with the process. If I go and purchase at Armani Privé, Amouage or Merchant of Venice in Europe, I come back loaded with gifts and samples, It is not the case when purchasing online in the US to legit company (not discounters), good luck if you get one or two samples in your package.
Thank you for the review! I have Silent Rose in a bath oil, really enjoy it, the whole bathroom smells like it for hours. I also have La Feuille, I like the fragrance. Because I have 100ml I spray it in the shower/bathroom sometimes. The scent is supposed to resemble the life of a leaf from a young green in the spring time to a wilted yellow in the fall. I also had Lumiere Doree in a shower gel and body lotion. This is the smell I liked the most out of the three. Citrusy, white florals, very delightful to my nose.
I have Poirier d’un soir, and you described it beautifully! It’s a gorgeous scent. The only other Miller Harris I own is called Lost, and is a rhubarb based scent. You’ve made me want to smell the vetiver one now :-)

Next time you should do a research before you start talking about a brand. There is a reason behind everything you wonder why. If you read Miller Harris’ story, you’ll understand. Also, about the samples: MH is a British brand and they offer a complimentary free delivery for the UK. Obviously, when they ship internationally you have to pay an additional cost. Many brands sell samples of their fragrances in order to give their customers an opportunity to try them. Samples cost, they can’t be free. Small, niche brands have to consider all the additional costs otherwise they will shut down. Quality speaking, MH fragrances are very long lasting because they use high concentration of natural oils and avoid their synthetic substitutes. In some cases, for example musk, they can’t use natural musk which is found in animals - it’s strictly prohibited. That’s the reason why synthetic versions have been created.
I like Miller Harris. So far what I got from them has been a hit for me , but I did lots of research to make sure I chose right. I have vetiver insolent( smokey vetiver) terre d’iris( herbaceous iris) I think it’s discontinued this one and noix de tuberouse ( delicious creamy coconuty tuberose) and love all 3. They are amazing.
As far as brand selling the samples, I don’t think that niche brands should give out the samples. In they charge $200 for 50ml , they should charge $8 for 2 ml. I just purchased 9 x 1 ml samples of Fueguia perfumes from their website for $50.
Had most of these over the years. Nice house. The only ones I’ve kept are fruitless de tabac, beautiful, and le pamplmousse. Also good. Vetiver insolent incidental smells like mono Di orio vetyver. Nice scents, I’ve enjoyed them but I’m over them now.
Hi Maria. Thanks for your video on this very under-the-radar house. It's funny, L'air de Rien is absolutely in my top 10 for life! For me it's such an emotionally evocative scent. I'm not sure if it's real memories or created memories, but I wonder if the barn-yard/b.o. note some perceive comes off more as hay and dusty books and the inside of a drawer in grandpa's office. Sometimes I even get a scented plastic doll head which puts me back to my childhood. It's not for everyone and just proof that fragrance is so personal. I have several other Miller Harris scents. Fleur Oriental for me is powdery and has a sort of Shalimaresque vibe. La Fumee is austere but barely lasts. Nice for layering. And Rose Silence which I haven't given much of a chance. It has an intimate skin note that is almost a bit too personal. Maybe I'll bust that one out today and give it a spin. Anyway, appreciate your thoughtful reviews, even if we don't always agree. It wouldn't be any fun if we all liked the same stuff, right? I'm another one of those 250+ bottle collectors. Have a little bit of everything and definitely find myself getting more discriminating when it comes to pushing that buy button on a new scent. I enjoy shopping my own stash! xo
