I just found your channel and I love it! My parents always cooked on cast iron when I was growing up and I learned how to cook on cast iron. Cast iron cookware is my favorite way to cook! I think I'll start writing down these recipes, because when the sh*t hits the fan, we probably won't have the Internet or smart phones. Looks yummy! Can't wait to try this!

Try using a trivet to keep direct heat off the bottom. Keep most of your coals around the outside edge. That will keep you from burning the bottom.
    Thanks for the video!

It was just my wife and I, so I cut your recipe in half and used a small Lodge 1 qt. dutch oven in the oven at 400*. The rest of the preparation was identical to your video. The cornbread came out fabulous. Sweet and crispy edges, Oh My!

I love cornbread an that's the best way I know of when you knock the coals off the cover I use an old paintbrush to sweep off the ash off the cover

Pork lard or Beef tallow RULE for Dutch oven bread baking. Thanks for the tips! I use a trivet to keep air flowing to the bottom coals.

Sprinkle a light layer of cornmeal into your heated oven just before you pour your cornbread batter into the oven for a crunchy crust.

Thankfully, when I bought my very first Camp Dutch Oven awhile back, I _didn't_ learn the hard way that you absolutely need a dedicated lid-lifter (and a couple of other accessories) along with it. Lodge is definitely the no-brainer choice for Dutch Ovens. But their website was sold out of a lot of things. Got a cheaper lid-lifter off of eBay. But it's solid.

You may want to try older cast iron. It is way slicker ( less porous). It is also more expensive than Lodge. Try flea markets, used material stores, Good Will, auctions.

The best lid lifter I've ever found is a framing claw hammer... Just use the claws

I think we have just tried harder, got some better gear, thought out how to film it better and spent way more time editing. There is a lot that goes into our recent videos behind the scenes with the production. It's a real job to make a great video. Then we have to cook something great, pff.

Is that corn meal or corn flour (masa). It looks quite light and fine for what we call corn meal out west.

I love your UA-cam channel! Have you ever used CampMaid Dutch oven tools? I just received it as a gift and I'm wondering how the food turns out when you flip the grill and use it as a smoker? Can you do some cooking demos showing different meals with the various uses of the CampMaid tools? This is the demo video I saw ua-cam.com/video/jOxouSQmQZI/v-deo.html

Yeah, I can handle a tablespoon of sugar...maybe but True Floridians would never put mor'n that in....we call that Yankee corn bread and not fit to eat.
