1970 Challenger Hemi Swapped vs 1969 Dodge Dart Big Block: Street Style Drag Racing

- Опубліковано 6 сер 2024
- In this episode I race my 5.7L Hemi swapped 1970 Dodge Challenger vs a 1969 Dodge Dart with a 493 Mopar big block V8. My 70 Challenger has a 6-speed manual transmission and the 69 Dart has a 4-speed manual so this is a battle of stick shifts, modern swap vs old school, Hemi vs big block, 4-speed vs 6-speed, fuel injection vs carbureted v8. The race track is 1000ft unprepped drag strip so this is a street race style drag race.

Awsome video! You almost had the big block car! Cant wait to see the next race!
Love the video! Great job....we all gotta hunt down that big block 493"!!!😂
I think you’re next, right? 😂
Man, I hope not 😂😂😂
😂😂
Both you guys are putting up some very good times you guys should be proud well done
AWESOME video man! Had a great time racing that night and I’m looking forward to the next time we line up 🤙🏻
@@sorta_stock heck yeah man same!
You have a Beautiful Challenger.
I seen you on SortaStockMopars.
I just subscribed to your channel.
Have a good evening. 👍
Dude, thank you sir I really appreciate it!
That wasn't too bad! Sorta stock is a force to reckon with. I think you did to long a burnout.
Yeah, I did that "camera is pointing at me" burnout. Haha
Burnouts actually make street tires slippery, not grippy like a drag compound.
Really enjoyed the video. Your Challenger did well against the big block Dart. Can't wait to see what you do to lower the ET.
Thank you sir, I have a few ideas but I’m thinking it’s time to level the Challenger up…
It would be interesting to find out what cam, heads, intake , carb and gear ratio are on that 493 in that 69 Dart because it should be alot quicker with more mph. Maybe it is set up more like a cruiser and street. That is a very nice Challenger!
Sorta stock has a quick car if he hooks and gets 600 ft pounds of torque pushing 3000 pounds with a good gear it would be hard for all but a monster challenger to beat
I’m thinking a 150 shot of nitrous might do it, unless he goes for some serious weight reduction or something
Big block dart for the win
I have a argument with a guy about a new style hemi and I’m putting a 440 6 pack in a dart he says that the 440 6 pack is basically a boat anchor whatever he thinks what’s cool about a 440 6 pack if he don’t know then I can’t explain to him
Without knowing what cylinder heads are being used on the 493.... peak power is most likely occurring 5,000 rpm or so ? intending shift points above that level are merely going slower applying the engine well into the downside of it's power curve.
Proud to own a 71 R/T Chally lot of fun
🤟
Happy to see an old RB engine beating modern gen 3. But i want to know whats done in that big block. Seems like gears are not low enough, also compression is key with a good set of flow heads and a cam to match it.
Hey Anthony! The 493 is a 12.5:1 CR all iron monster. I posted a video giving a full walk through of the car on my channel. Lots of little things to tweak for sure.
@@sorta_stock im gonna check it out. I could’ve sworn i seen you at Sonoma one time?! I race my a body there all the time.
@@Anthony12valve440RB I went to Sonoma a few times between 2015 and 2016. Moved out of the Bay in 2016. Use to have a go mango ‘75 Dart with a 416 stroker back then.
@@sorta_stock im not to far from leaving the state also. But yeah i remember seeing your car back then. I was driving a plum crazy purple 72 challenger that was also a 416 hell yeah 340 FTW🤘. Thanks for being the only few who build these older LA , B , RB engines. Nothing against modern engines i love the work people do making a gen 3 hemi work on the old cars but im 24 and in my opinion i like these older mopars with these engines. They’re underrated , people don’t understand you can make alot of power with what Chrysler gave you. I mean the 416 i built made 512 hp with the factory X heads that came with the 340 in 1969. Wish i had my hands on a TA engine where they moved the push rod for you to port out the runner even more and the TA block having thicker webbing to make it a 4 bolt main. But examples like that is why im a big old school mopar guy.
Haven't seen yet but traction gonna be the issue. Can't make a stock 440 hook, especially in a light car and be legal. Altered is a whole new game.
Need to run actual 1/4 mile 1320 ft.
put some mickey Thompsons on it
Next race I think we're going to run drag radials and slicks, I have a set of ET Street SS ready 👍
Nice!
It'll be funny seeing them try auto cross
It definitely will, I can't wait
Good racing that night! Got a question, I noticed your gauges are lit up, is that factory?
Not factory, those are Autometer gauges I switched to for my EFI swap I modified to fit in the factory cluster. I get them set up in episode 6 of my Hemi swap build series: ua-cam.com/video/fqnhzJLP8ko/v-deo.html
@@noboltsleftbehind Thanks man I'll check it out
That came out great I really like that, I got a 73 Challenger with the old gauges and I've trying to think of something to do with them and this is it, now I have to go back and watch the whole build, thanks for sharing this.
@@ws2664
You should check out Speedhut gauges. You can get them in many colors, fonts, bezel styles, even your own design or logo on the face. I installed them in a 1967 Mustang factory dash with a shiftlight tach and electronic speedometer that can be programmed with any gear ratio or tire size.
When did Willow Springs Raceway add Drag Racing?
It's been going on for at least four or five years, they do them during the summer. It's called Night Drags
@@noboltsleftbehind okay, that makes sense. We lived in Rosamond from 1989 to 2015 and never saw drag races there. This is a good thing to have now. Too many tracks have closed over the years. Have fun and be safe and I will keep watching your videos. I have a Challenger but I have a small block 904 combo. Mopar or no car.
Am I going to have to work on my chevy?? ;)
I don’t think you need to do any work just yeah, that thing is already a rocket ship
So that was 1000ft?
Yes
pee
drive a Subaru STI. (these guys can't even drive in a straight line)
the Dart will have no traction
