I Raced my Hemi Swap 1970 Challenger in the Fastest YouTuber Competition... and it RIPPED!
In this episode I took my Hemi swapped 1970 Dodge Challenger to the drag strip to compete in round 2 of the Fastest UA-camr competition! The Challenger was up against NightWrencher and his 1973 Plymouth Duster small block 318, just_another_car_show in their 5.0 swapped 1966 Ford Mustang, sorta_stock driving his big block v8 1969 Dodge Dart, and @JonnyMopar in his 1966 Plymouth Belvedere with a 383 big block. This was an unprepped street racing style drag race on a 330' track, so traction and launches were the biggest challenge. It was a showdown between modern swapped fuel injection vs carburetor, manual vs automatic, small block vs big block, old school muscle vs Hemi swap.
Special thanks to @just_another_car_show for some rad trackside footage, if you haven't already I highly recommend you check out their channel and their episode of the race: ua-cam.com/video/WTvBgvJwkQY/v-deo.html .

    Ok.. both are 5.7.. yes the 70 Challenger is lighter. I would like to see a 440 in the 70. Real old school against New School. And what type of rear end with gears in the 1970. Otherwise great video! 🐻🇺🇸

      @@bigbear5981 4.10 gears in my ‘70 with limited slip. Another huge difference between my ‘70 and the 2020 (that I wish I would have explained better in the video) is the transmission, suspension and technology in the new Challenger. He’s got computer controlled traction control, independent suspension, and modern 8-speed auto. For me it’s just gears and horsepower. At the end of the day all engines do is provide twisting force. I’d love to put an old built up 440 or 426 in my ‘70, if you all get together and start a gofundme for an expensive build like that let’s do it! Otherwise my garage-built broke ass is stuck with the 5.7 I pulled out of a 2005 Durango. Lol.

      @@bigbear5981 didn’t add the extra leaf, instead I went with the Hotchkis rear leafs and torsion bars with Bilstein shocks. It’s set up much more for road corse than it is drag racing. I did add CalTracs traction bars though to fight axle wrap and they help a lot.

    Hello. I found a 5.0L v8 1998 Ford Explorer engine for sale with out the ECU nor transmission, but I’m not sure if I should buy it because it’s out of the car and I don’t know how to test it. Any recommendations on what I should check before buying this engine? Ps: I have a 64 1/2 mustang with a 260cid v8 and a C4.

    • @noboltsleftbehind
      @noboltsleftbehind 4 дні тому

      Hey, so I’d definitely recommend doing a leakdown test on the engine to make sure it has good compression. You’d have to have an air compressor handy and the tester itself is pretty cheap. You can rotate the engine by hand and check each cylinder to make sure they’re holding air. If compression doesn’t a good and it spins freely, that’s a pretty good sign that the engine is healthy. Other than that, I’d recommend getting a borescope (I have a cheap one that connects to my phone, it works great) and taking a look at each cylinder through the spark plug holes. Carbon buildup on top of each piston is normal, but make sure cylinder walls look clean and have absolutely no gouges or damage.

Granted, it's drivetrain is probably nearly as modern as the 2020 car. I just find it much less cool to buy a fast car "off the rack."
