My boyfriend is exactly like this, I hate it in him, tbh... and sometimes I really feel uncomfortable with some jokes and behaviours he has. But anyway he is Czech, there's nothing to be done about it! At least he's addict to alcohol, he usually drinks soft beverages... so this is already a positive point about him...

    • @mortisCZ
      @mortisCZ 3 роки тому

@Janabroderick Well Mayflower arrived to American shores like two weeks after our great military defeat in religious/civil war later known as 30 year war. That war was like fourth or fifth civil war in our written history and we've spent another 298 years under the rule of Austrian royal family who forced their religious views to our society. Only the tragedy of First world war ended their empire. Then we've been occupied by fascists and communists just during 20th century.21st century started better but we'll see.
US has a dark history but much of it was to some degree diluted with hope of building and moving up in the world. Their history might be more concentrated in sucess and failure and cruelty which changes the outlook.
Hey and there is really nothing sacred here. Religious communities tend to have dark humor limited to some topics.

Not really!!!! I hate it about my boyfriend. Seriously! I'm Brazilian and in my country we are softer wheh it comes to some behaviours that may cause disturbance. Sometimes my bf really makes me feel uncomfortable with that " czech black humour" and then, as he realizes he got me off the ground he says me something like:
'"I'm Czech and you know that we're well known because of our dark humour, it's not something bad, so don't take it seriously, it's just how Czechs are, love. I didn't mean to bother you."
But it seems impossible sometimes to handle his jokes and childish attitudes. He just drives me crazy in some occasions. Ugh, gosh!!!! Anyway, I love that guy! He's cute, caring, romantic (sometimes) and sometimes selfish and egocentric as well.... but he's a nice guy and has many attributes, he helps me with the Czech language and is very patient, this is the best part of our relationship, we understand each other, but he does it much better than I do. So, no relationship is perfect but we really know how to make it work in our case, despite the up and downs and so on. Czech Republic is the best.

Here in Czechia we prefer true, long relationships.. like when your friend every month show you new girlfriend/boyfriend, it starts to be annoying, and we think like "he's great friend, but he can't stay in relationship, Mění holky/kluky jak ponožky" - That's what we actually saying a lot... And it's the same with showing your girlfriend/boyfriend to parents. When we start dating someone, we don't often tell this everybody immediately, but we trying to know each other, and thinking, if this relationship could be great. And after some months, when we are convicted about our relationship, we start showing the rest of each others friends, and important - to parents. This is my point of view, of course it can be somewhere a little bit different. btw, nice video :)

You are right in many ways.
Nowadays I can observe people in bad life situations and I am amazed. They help each other. Partnerships are stronger if it survives first month and you have a chance to look at the people around.
I thought family focus is a tradition in few families, but now I can see really strong bonds amongst many families. Even friendship bonds proved to be good (at least in my case and what I can see around).
Nowadays due to some family problems (possible near death) I found out my bonds are fortunately strong and they help me with preparation for unwanted situation.
Corona proved you in many ways more correct, than I expected.

As for the gender roles in the household, my BF (we are both Czech) loves to operate the machines in our home, so he loves to use the washing machine, use the dryer, use the dishwasher, use the "robot" vacuum cleaner :-D That's not much else for me to do around the apartment :) So I cook from time to time (he likes to cook too), put the clothes that can't be dryed in the dryer on the drying rack, fold it, water the plants, wash dishes that shouldn't be washed in the machine, swipe the floors. I think we have divided it quite equally... It's also about what you are willing to do. You can "teach" your husband, that "no, it's not 1950s, you have to do the work too around the house."
He is not much into gardening, I on the other hand love it, so I turned his balcony (where only his rusting bike was located) into a jungle. However, my brother (40yo, IT specialist) is in his garden every day, planting, tending to the garden all the time. My father too.
Drinking is a thing in the Czech Republic. My family however is very "dry". Drinking is not a thing for us, we have a glass of wine for special ocassions (birthdays usually), but that's it. But friends and my BF's family drink much more. In my household (me living with my BF) we drink very rarely (because of my approach to drinking). My BF got used to it quite easily.

Dark Humor is like food.. Not everyone has it.
Also the moving in is usually because of the housing market. It's usually pretty hard to get a proper nice flat, or house, by yourself, with your usual job. I'm talking a store clerk or a receptionist. In these jobs rent can be more than 3/4 of your pay. So it's easier, and more economical, to share your housing with someone, be it your partner, or a room-mate.

Hi Andrea, lovely video. Could you please recommend me some of venezuelan musicians, maybe even some of your favourites, it's been years that i come across Felipe Pirela (on colombian internet radio :-)) and i instantly fall in love with his music, for me it's magical mix of sadness and hope and i'm wondering whats venezuelan music in general is like, and I'm guessing it surely has a huge cultural significance to venezuelan people. In past video you have mentioned that they like to listen to music loudly and everywhere, maybe the difference in contrast to czech music could be a topic of next youtube video ;-)

I am watching this to compare the lifestyle of czech citizens to those of czechs in America (mainly nebraska where most czechs settled) there are similarities and differences for sure but it does seem like traditions and culture has come across with immigrant families. My grandparents may have not passed down the language, but they passed down the culture. I have pulled my boyfriend into my culture, he is Korean but doesn't have strong ties like I do and is very excited to now be a Czech man. He fits in very well

Just writing for someone who doesnt know anything about Czech republic. There are 2 big regions and 1 small.
1st region is Bohemia. Which are people from ''Western side of Czech republic'' and they are more ''western''. Also they speak non-standart language and are more vulgar.
2nd region is Moravia. These people are from ''East side''. Moravia is more ''slav''. People there really like drinking beer, wine etc. Also (most of us) we write and speak more in standart language.
    3rd region is Silesia

Maybe in the villages, some teenagers are fighting often because the boredom.
