I told lifeguards at makaha there was a big shark underneath me looking aggressive when I was paddling out to the line up and the lifeguard looked at me and said "what do you want me to do about it?". I thought idk maybe take the jetski out and warn everyone in the line up or use the bull horn and warn anyone 🤷🏽‍♂️🤦🏽

They always there whether you see them or not so I tend agree with the LifeGuard, sharks live in the ocean. You make the choice to go in thats on you.✌🏻

@@buzz5969 True, they always gonna be in the water, sometimes you see em sometimes you don't. Nonetheless it would be extremely careless and unprofessional for a Lifeguard not to give a damn about it. It's literally part of their job to do something when a shark is spotted, especially when acting agressive and it is at least 6 feet and over.

Hawai’i protocol is to put up signs and alert swimmers if a shark is sighted that’s 8 ft or over. If it’s a large shark and it’s hard to say a size, I recommend you say 8 ft or over, just in case, otherwise if it’s a lazy lifeguard, he may not care. I would report him, someone like that shouldn’t be responsible for peoples safety, especially not childrens.

Scary, as the beach is a great place to swim.

That area is the most popular for ocean swimmers, in and out the channel and often much beyond.

Having dived there a bunch haven’t seen a single shark so they are rare but I’m convinced they chilling in the drop off further out. Never wanted to venture that far because it’s far and boats are a real hazard when doing casual diving.

@@dreammaker9642 Definitely a freak occurrence for that spot.

@@Randsurfer the amount of times I’ve dived there looking for tiger sharks even during full season and nothing. Yet some poor surfer who asked nothing almost got it, tiger sharks are unfair.

Hopefully it was completely turned off by the taste of fiberglass and it never attacks anyone again. Glad he is ok.

You know see’im cause you not obviously looking , as a kid into my adulthood I saw over at lease 15 sharks 🦈 why ? Cause that what you taught Hawaiian way to always observe your surroundings in the water before you go in and while you’re in

Not all sharks but some sharks. I know GWs in SA love to nibble on yellow scuba tanks. In general tho I think most sharks tend to see yellow pretty well thanks to the contrast.

Yup. They are very rare considering how many sharks and people are in the water at the same time.
