It does boost fps bc when I ran mc on chromebook it ran 60 fps on lowest settings on Ubuntu or Linux mint it went up to 500 in same specs and everything

Windows just uses to much ram and linux only uses 140 mb so big difference

I think it is a little exaggerated maybe chuncks are set lower
overall because most distros come with less background processes I'd say you should in reality be getting from 20fps in windows to maybe 40-45fps

And I use arch BTW
distros, ubuntu is bad for ram usage whereas gentoo or arch is better, also depends on DE, usually xfce and WM is the lightest option, the fps difference isn't drastic prob 10-15 fps increase realistically speaking

@@alexlexo59 yeh yeh, arch and gentoo just makes life easier by taking less ram in general, the lowest ram usage i got from running both is 300mb.
(plus arch isnt hard to use just takes a bit to get used to)
(gentoo on the other hand we dont talk about)
The game runs better on Linux because of it's lightweight nature. I think more games should come to Linux and gamers put Linux on their pcs for the best FPS

@@ghost-mk7gbYeah but recently Microsoft welp broke gaming for at least me. Im barely getting 15 fps on gta v while on Arch Linux im getting 144fps on very high settings. Also my pc is ryzen 7 8 cores 4.5ghz 16gb ram rtx 3060. So yeah even games that are running via proton / wine works better lol

This is due to the fact that AMD and Intel GPUs tend to work really good with the Open Source Drivers, which are called "Mesa" and included in the Kernel! ;) Really nice, isn't it? :D

@@mazzar7900 As the Nvidia Geforce GT 540M is not supported anymore, the latest and greatest Nvidia Drivers won't work. You should install a older version (390) or use the default nouveau open source driver
I have to come here to clear up misconceptions about Linux. No it's not because Linux uses 100 MB of RAM less... It's about the optimizations on java. If you compile C/C++ apps you can choose between optimization levels -O1/-O2/-O3/-Ofast/-Os/-Oz. If you compile java with -Ofast for example it'll run faster. There are also things like LTO and PGO but that's a little too complicated for this comment. Also compositors handle animations and backgrounds and it can decrease Minecraft's FPS.
TL;DR: Less RAM in use doesn't = performance. It's about other stuff which I listed above.
Can you recommend the best Linux distro, I just want to run Minecraft 1.8.9 as fast as possible.
@@ThatOneAmpharos I really can't give any recommendations as I've only used Linux for 1 year. I also use my own custom distro so I really can't really recommend you my own. I've heard nobara was good. Never tested it.

TLauncher serves multiple purposes, including legitimate use by players with premium accounts.
Linux has less background activity and less ram usage than Windows because Windows has a bunch of misc services, ads, apps and bloat apps runs on background and because of it, u are getting lot more fps. But you can also optimize windows for gaming and get this amount of fps.
I would rather get better fps out of box rather than do it myself

The Microsoft NT 10 kernel itself is garbage plus the bloatware that comes with it's bundle of software makes it a trash OS, sadly it somehow rose to popularity faster than GNU/Linux distributions so thats what everyone decided to code software for.

You need to use a light window manager to boost your fps
The reason this works is apparently the java implementation in Linux is way more optimized than Windows. And I mean the programming language not the version of Minecraft lol.
makes sense since linux is just a bootloader and a kernal so it would be very light and would give extra fps boost

try nobara (fedora fork with some kernel patches)
Nobara doesn't really improve performance, but actually cause instability because of the number of non-upstream patches. I'd say that it's the best for gaming (many mesa and proton patches, causing little to no incompatibilities), but not for everything else
@@Utente84 Nobara is very stable for me. It gives A slightly better performance for NVIDIA GPU's than fedora
I tried it and it broke. Probably a hardware issue. Switched back to Fedora and made the patches myself, worked out fine :)

Well I recently installed fedora and I just can't get it to run Minecraft it crashes and says try updating your drivers i have Intel uhd 620 and on windows i get about 300 fps used to get about 400 on Ubuntu
