    Thanks for this review!
    I’m just looking for a new master grade interface.
    I got an aurora n demo unit here which is amazing.
    But I always had my eyes on the AD+ since I’m very happy with my Bus+
    What are you’re things about this unit after 2 years?

      I’m considering getting an Aurora n for my interface and then using the Dangerous Convert AD+ as my AD (currently just have an Apollo twin)
      What interface are you currently using and how has the Aurora been different?

      The way clippers work in the box is pretty well documented and understood; I'd love to learn more about how the circuits of a A-D Converter manage overs; namely; when the signal exceeds the voltage of the series of comparators how chips are designed to manage them;

    AD+...forget it. Fills the space across the board that was lacking in the ITB example. It's as if the space in my cans around my ears got instantly bigger without any harsh loudness or anything like that. I like that ITB is trying to do like a narrow punch thing, but when you switch back to the AD+ it sounds like Goliath has entered the room.

    Super cool video, not sure why I'm just seeing this!
    Would be really curious if you could do a video on the technical differences between clipping a converter like this and using a plugin clipper! Supposedly it's totally different and a magic thing that plugins can't capture, and no information seems to be available about why that is! Is it the curve that get softened as the signal reaches 0db, is it different harmonics that are created... there should be some kind of measurable difference if so, but again, no information I've seen anywhere answers the question! :)

    • @panorama_mastering
      @panorama_mastering  Рік тому

      It's a fully passive unit; which is GREAT; I really like the fact end to end; it's not passing through any stages which introduce any forms of changes in the fidelity of the signal;
      I only have one qualm with it; is that the trim for the output sources and the main volume are all potentiometers; I'd much prefer switches which are more accurate;
      I've tweaked the trim pots using a dedicated SPL mic/meter; but still; i'd prefer switches;

    Can you tell what causes standard clip or any other digital clipper to choke out the low end? Or what can we do in order to maintain that low end ITB in maximum possible way

    • @panorama_mastering
      @panorama_mastering  2 роки тому +1

      Usually for me it's everything I do ahead of the clipper which allows me to manage the way it interacts with the sound; but it's never one specific thing which fits for ALL songs; it's usually a variation of different techniques paired together based on the material at hand;

    Big difference versus ITB clipper! Kick was totally lost with Standard Clip🙈 What can you say about AD clipping difference versus TC?

    • @panorama_mastering
      @panorama_mastering  2 роки тому

      I like both of them; What I can objectively point to is that function wise the TC was easier to gain stage in (1dB steps)
      Subjectively (because I can’t run tests on the TC it needs repairs) is the AD+ has a better low end extension.

    So what level do you go in to the AD+ before you use the calibration for clipping?

    • @panorama_mastering
      @panorama_mastering  2 роки тому +3

      I gain up to -1 to 0 dBFS on the -18 setting then I have enough room to clip it either 2dB or 4dB above!

  • @ramelijah
    @ramelijah 2 роки тому +1

    Wow thank you for that! Clipping wise, do you feel it's something you couldn't get ITB? Imo standard clip has a very different characteristics, so if you compare it to other digital clippers ( like LIFT in clipper mode 3, that tries to emulate analog clipping or other you like.. ) do you find the ad+ superior to those?

    • @panorama_mastering
      @panorama_mastering  2 роки тому +1

      Here's the thing; in practice I find it superior; YES!
      I'd approximate it's a 1-2% difference in the scope of the WHOLE CHAIN; because there are instances now where I'm using ITB clippers for certain material where I don't want to use the analog chain and it's just as suitable!

    I thought people used the clip guard when clipping this converter?

    • @panorama_mastering
      @panorama_mastering  2 роки тому +1

      The clip guard is a way of tricking the DAW from registering overs via the 0 and 1 data it communicates with the computer; however to my best understanding it's not actively changing any of the the audible path; they even state it doesn't prevent over distorting/driving the signal; I always have a limiter after anyway so I can control my ceiling point ahead of the final print
