A company that dares to tell you "we don't know but we're working on it" is a good thing. Allot of others would have blamed everything under the sun before admitting they have a design flaw somewhere.
Sounds like maybe a bad cap in the power supply. I had that issue with my FF800 - wouldn't fully start (dim lights) and turning it off and on it would work. Did this for three months until it totally crapped out. I found the cap that mushroomed out and ended up replacing the power supply. Bad caps totally mess with logic circuits. I've been running a D-Box+ and it's been flawless so I dunno...
No, just an issue where the power that the unit was receiving was dipping too low during boot up. This can happen in some setups where multiple pieces of gear are turned on simultaneously. The voltage drops, and if dropped to low it could cause the AD+ to freeze during the boot up sequence. We found a fix though, so it won't be an issue anymore.

I had a similar problem with a Audio Interface from Digidesign (Digi 002r) about 17 years ago. They replaced the transformer and some power circuit cables with a relay. If I remember correct it was a part that controls the input Volt so you can use the unit in 110V AND 220V.

Hello David! My Ad+ behaves the same some times but I have not thought about it that much. I tested today and the first thing that happens is that it ends up in dim mode and I had to turn it off and start again and then it started normally within about 7 sec. I have had mine for about 1 year but as I said I have not thought much about it but now I agree that it should not be so.
My AD+ has had the same issue from the beginning. Around 1 of 5 power ups don't work. Really annoying as it is a perfect device otherwise. I'm in for a replacement, too, but they're in backorder currently.
Hi David! First thank you so much for all the great videos!! I just bought an AD+ and have problems to set it up in Pro Tools with my Apollo x6. I used to have my analog chain as a hardware insert in Pro Tools so after the analog processing I could make more processing in Pro Tools with Plugins (mainly Limiters). Now I go out of Pro Tools from Output 3/4 into the analog chain (two processors) and from there into the 1/2 analog input of the AD+ and from there back into the Apollo with Spdif. In and Output of the Apollo are routed the same - 3/4 - as Pro Tools needs it. However the AD+ comes into my Apollo control software "Console" on Spdif. I still use a hardware insert in Pro Tools but the signal doesn't come back into Pro Tools so I could do further processing. How do you setup your routing with the AD+ in Pro Tools? Thanks for your help, kind regards, Rainer
uh... something sound pretty wrong here the way I understand it. I do this with the MOTU router and I don't know UAD stuff but If you exite 3-4 analog and you come out from the AD digital (only way) you have to find a way into your router to trick protools into thinking you are coming back 3-4 analog, which you're not, so you set the 3-4 analog input to pick up the signal from the spidif instead, problem is, I'm not sure you can do it with UAD, as far as I know only MOTU and maybe RME can do this.
@@mixbustv Thank you very much for the quick reply. I knew the Pro Tools "issue", I found out the best way to go out from my Apollo analog and come back after the AD+ digitally through the Spdif: all my tracks go to an Aux channel in Pro Tools, output set to Line 3/4 (into my analog chain), then I have another Aux channel with the input set to Spdif and this one goes out to Out 1/2 Master and voila - I can make 2-Bus processing before and after the analog processing - great :) !! @@mixbustv I received a sub assy fix last month for Eric Johnson's AD+ that we use here at Saucer Sound. From what Dangerous told me I was the first to see this problem last year. We've been mixing at my studio for the last 6 weeks so I haven't had a chance to install the fix. I am now concerned that this fix may not be the answer since from your video it sounds like they are back to square one, not knowing how to fix it. Really love the sound of these converters. Mixing decoupling approaches may cause this: one of the power rails can't start if the other one starts significantly faster. It depends on the particular phase of the AC mains. So the moment when the user switches the power on is crucial.
Really weird, looks like the power supply would be based on some kind of timer that switches some relays to distribute power, but those don't clic, hence no powering up. Great video and informations about the product and companies, David! I would like to see (and test) the board inside the unit with problems. Problems like that happens in production time when some little SMD capacitors or inductors (sometimes resistors as well) are phisically affected by the impact of the SMT machines. Hey JP, sorry to hear of the issues. Contact me via email or phones, and I can look into your unit. I can't tell you what happened to it once it was shipped to the dealer, but I can look up your serial number to see when we shipped it out. It should be sealed, and is packed in a way that a dropped box won't damage the unit.
Hello! Sorry to hear about the problems you're having! Yes, unfortunately, that is the (sorry) state of current affairs with high-end small-manufacture equipment. Dangerous Music doesn't know what the problem is and therefore can't fix it because someone else made the part (or the whole thing) for them. They're much too small to have the resources to build it anyway so it's much simpler if you hand it over to someone else. They might do final assembly but the boards will be made by someone else. I have had similar problems with my Bryston BDA-2 D/A converter which wouldn't come out of standby. You had to unplug it from the wall and then replug it. The frustrating thing was, it didn't do it always so it made it impossible for the distributor to trace the problem. Eventually they sent me a totally new machine which works properly. But it is certainly not what you expect when paying 3000 € for a converter. If it was a Japanese manufacturer, the device would have never even left the factory as their approach is much simpler: either it works perfectly or it is broken. I hope the 2nd unit you got will be fine over the long-haul! Cheers mate!

But they said since it’s a special order that it was shipped from dangerous music that way... but on top of this it gets shipped with the contents showing which I blame any retailer for that but I received a notification that it was signed and delivered, so I go out seconds after to see nothing and then I look down the street and the fedex truck was just parked, so I had to hurry up and catch him and I was like WTF why the f did u pass my house and have the item signed off?? He was like aww my fault, that’s all he had to say, so I don’t know if he opened it and dropped it or what... but I’m pissed off that I gotta deal with this and exchange it because I ordered it September 18th and waited this long!!! I really hope no one else will have this bs happen
WoW you have made some serious GAINS ! 💪
How did you managed to get the next serial number, kinda quantum!
I have friends in high places (no, it just happened cause my guys at Sweetwater)
@@mixbustv Good luck with this one!
Thank you, but it was actually fixed: ua-cam.com/video/-jg9Wl5WZT0/v-deo.html
How do you have time to Workout and eat WELL?...you must be set up on a PROTEIN DRIP WHILE in STUDIO. your Love working your Deltoids. :) ( we have 24 hrs in our days here in California, you may have 30 hrs :) Thx Again for ALL your Great VIDEOS :)
Well I'm in LA but I'm pretty sure they have 24h everywhere :D eating well takes less time than eating bad if you ask me, as for the time, you make it. Self discipline, you sacrifice other things because is your body and if it goes to shit well, it's gonna be to late. Also, forcing yourself to get your hands dirty, dealing with pain and things that you don't necessarily want to do, build character and will power, that reflects in anything you do.
Good lucK!
I have had a lock up problem w my liason ,, DA said it doesn’t happen a lot. Should have gone w the manly backbone
Wow, so many reports of faulty units here, I definitely didn't expect this
Please reach out to me (Chris V) via email or phones. The Liaison shouldn't have an issue like this. This one is specific to the AD+ in certain user setups.
But did they include more candy is the real question. lol
You know? They didn't! I'm gonna complain now
Anche il mio ogni tanto non parte. Ma poi va sempre. Convertitore della Madonna

Most users won't experience the issue, but if you do please contact us. We have found a fix to this problem for those that experience it.
Shouldn’t need to make a video post if your having issues take it up with dangerous they’ll be more then happy to help you .
No I actually did because I did talk with Dangerous extensively and they don't know what the problem is, many units have this problem and they can't solve it. So maybe before commenting something like this you should try an educated guess that I had already.
When you follow david for mixing and mastering knowledge and your girlfriend follow him because his body.. Is my life, my friend!! 😂😂😂
When music gets too dangerous you get almost beheaded!
