Anyway, you’re both great at what you do and thank you both for all the videos
Very helpful information and comparison, just one doubt is that which one is better in low light video and is the viltrox more stable on sony a6700 in body stabilization?
All these people going with the Sony for vlogging are crazy. 11mm gives you a ton of distortion, there's no getting around it, it's a matter of physics. His head is so skinny doesn't look natural at all, what is with you people? Look at the end of this video, 5:55 the video doesn't lie. The Vitrox doesn't have the distortion, his head looks normal, the picture looks normal, and it's sharper to boot so it's better for photography. The Viltrox is hands down the better lens and the better value too, it's not even close.
Thanks for the video. I was also deciding between these 2 lenses. I was leaning towards the Sony 11mm because it's wider, smaller and lighter. But last week I end up ordering the Viltrox directly from China because it was on sales for just below US$260 and it is F1.4. It should arrive to my door within a week. This video really comforts me that I do not make the wrong decision by going for Viltrox.
For vlogging definitely the 11 mm because we want show off the area around more but I still prefer a phone for vlogging. For talking head video the viltrox is better in my opinion less distortion and we can move a bit since we put the camera on tripod. For photography also in the milky way sample, viltrox show more abundance of star and darker sky which I like better.
If you turn off active stabilization and then run the footage through Catalyst Browse, and you are vlogging, would the 11mm be better than the Viltrox (and not using a gimbal)?
Great video! One question about it bud goes for the reat of Viltroy lenses - can you stabilise the video in Catalyst? I know some Tamron and third party lenses without OSS wirk with Catalyst but can't find about Viltrox.
@Darragh Keoghstabilisation (gyro) data is in the camera, not the lens so it works with every lens you get. You can't use Catalyst only if you use Active stabilisation.
Awesome video Joe; thank you. I went with the Sony as I shoot inside a lot for my son's UA-cam channel, but we also get outside, and I wanted to have a good frame width once the stabilization was engaged. Keep up the creative work. It is appreciated.
You made this video before the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 was a thing = 35mm on apsc, and at the time, I couldn't make up my mind between the 75mm or the 13mm, so I bought the Sony 11mm. And next, I'm buying the 27mm Viltrox, hoping that the focusing in video will be better now!
If I had to work with that punch in of active stabilization I'd go with the Sony, but I really like the look and the extra light coming in of the Viltrox
Joe, just watched and commented on your Viltrox 13mm video, and then this one popped up. Perfect timing. These are the two are leaning towards. I like the 11mm because it obviously captures more video real estate, but the 13mm had the f1.4. Really a toss up. Both pretty much priced the same. Difficult choice.

If you keep it on a tripod, keep your sigma. If you like to hold it while moving around, Sony it's better for both active stab and on a gimbal. The viltrox is even heavier than the sigma.
If budget is not an issue, Viltrox 13mm or Tamron 11-20 f2 for Sony ZVe10?🙂 just planning to use it for travel mostly photos… mostly in low light.. cos I have Tamron 17-70 for daylight
Just a newbie trying to appreciate and learn photography. I’ll start using it for my Korea travel. Viltrox is so tempting cos it’s cheap, but in terms of photo quality and being versatile, is the tamron still worth the price diff?
Thanks! I just subbed! This is the comparison I wanted to see! I'm still torn a bit though. I mostly shoot travel videos and need one of these lenses for indoors and lowlight outdoors like golden and blue hours). I will probably use my GoPro for sunny outdoors just because of the convenience. This review goes hand in hand with Mark Bennett's Camera Crisis review showing the lowlight performance. How is the crop/performance with 4K/30 on the ZV-E10? I prefer 30fps because I believe it looks better on UA-cam for travel videos that have mixed framerates of 60 and 120fps. For someone like me who wants to shoot in 30fps a majority of the time, would you recommend the Sony 11mm? I am pleased with the bokeh on the 11mm Sony, but I do like that the Viltrox goes down to F/1.4 if that makes a huge difference in lowlight. I use Davinci Resolve which seems to do a good job with mixed framerates and I believe the 13mm Viltrox is perfect without the addition 30fps crop so I might also be willing to try mixing 24fps since it probably helps in lowlight. I also will be using Catalyst Browse instead of a Gimbal for stabalization, which looks better with higher shutter so that is also a concern. I know this is a lot, but can you give me some advice? Thanks in advance!

@@thefilmalliance Thanks! Yes, if I couldn't use it in lowlight it wouldn't make sense for me. Plus, catalyst browse likes higher shutter speed so the 1.4 would probably help even more by bringing in more light in those scenarios!

Thanks Joe! This is a great comparison. I think the Viltrox is a great choice, but I am going to go Sony for the quieter AF, and JUST IN CASE the Viltrox won't work with Catalyst, I can still smooth out the video if needed. I also went with the FeiyuTechScorp C gimbal on my ZV E-10.I shoot mostly inside on a set or in a studio. I'm planning on adding an a6400 or another ZV E-10 as a backup too.
Yes, it is the Milky Way. You are looking toward the middle of our own galaxy, at the light of billions of stars. They are so far away that their light blends together into a milky band. written by an astrophysicist, my wife.
I like how you worded that because the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 has more light and is better during low light environments than the Sony and you're right, the Sony is lighter in weight than the Viltrox.

I ordered sony 11mm1.8 for my zv-e10 in Australia. Please send link of best ND filter for wide angle lens for sony 11mm
Thanks
Thats awesome, I don't know any off the top but if I come across some I will be sure to let you know.
Thanks for your help iv been trying to decide between the two for a while now it’s hard to say which one to get for my vlogs does the viltrax have a zoom in feature on the lens it’s self it it does that’s probably going to be the winner for me even tho it is bigger and 3x times heavier my vlogs are very fast paced so that why lol
Hey Scott, thats awesome. I understand exactly what you are saying. An A600 or another Zve10 as backup would be a great idea. Thanks for this comment.
i go for sony, because of the weight
It doesn't look that wide to me.
I love my viltrox 13mm. No way am I spending $1000 on equivalent if not worse specs sony lenses
Yes, it is the Milky Way. You are looking toward the middle of our own galaxy, at the light of billions of stars. They are so far away that their light blends together into a milky band. written by an astrophysicist, my wife.
Wow please thank your wife for the explanation and confirmation.
Difficult choice 😅😅 what do you prefer if you're into house indoors photography?
Well, it just depends on what I am shooting exactly in the house. Like full room photography?

I would recommend the Viltrox 13mm f1.4. That is actually my favorite lens.
Good thing about the Sony is that it's so small and light you can throw it on the gimbal.
Yes, that is a great point.
Went with Sony because i wanted a lighter lens
I like how you worded that because the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 has more light and is better during low light environments than the Sony and you're right, the Sony is lighter in weight than the Viltrox.
Fantastic video! What would work best for me… UA-cam guitar tutorials in a small bedroom. Would like a nice blur in the background and the camera to be setup quite close. Any help would be great!
Great suggestion. I will look into it and see what I can do. Thanks for the positive feedback.
@@thefilmalliance that would be great. Feel free to check out a video or two of mine to get the vibe :)
Easy, viltrox 1.4 13mm on the zve10
