    Hello everyone, Ben here and welcome back to the channel. TCR cars can be some of the most enjoyable and some of the most frustrating cars in sim racing, largely because they're front wheel drive, and take alot of getting used to if you're used to racing single seaters or GT cars.
    So I'm delighted to be joined by Dennis Schops, a sim racer who is absolutely rapid in the TCR, to help identify the key things you have to do to be fast in this series.

    Yo Ben. There was a few places during the lap where u can gain time just by holding higher gears. Turn 2 for example is much quicker if u stay in 3rd for the whole corner. U gain time all the way down to t4 then as u don't get the initial wheelspin from using 2nd gear. Also the chicane in the middle of the lap u can downshift to 2nd for the initial turn but then shortshift back to 3rd and again gain laptime. Being able to carry momentum is a massive lap time gain. Try it you will definitely run a quicker laptime with those few tips

      Thanks Phil! I think it’s a habit I have from racing formula cars to get the car rotated and / or use engine braking to get the car slowed down! Will give it a try and report back!

    The most challenging part of these cars for me is definitely braking. It's so easy to lock up, so you want to avoid that, but you also want to induce a bit of oversteer while doing it, but not too much because you lose a lot of time that way. And sure you can just use the throttle to pull you out of a drift but quite often that will ruin your line, or worse, send you off the track limits, and Raceroom tends to invalidate your lap if you're just a millimeter over the line with four wheels.

      its a understeering technique to make the back pop out when front wheels grip up its mostly for extra rotation. fernando alonso used to do this.

    One big addition to this is that we must remember that a FWD car pulls you out of a corner where as a RWD pushes you out of the corner. So the mechanics are different when you try to control how you are coming out of a corner and what your intentions are with respect to positioning yourself on the track for maximum positioning and exit speed.

    FFor me, the most important thing is to know the braking points on the track and to accelerate with the correct gear selection. Drive ideal line when opponents allow it! The rest is speeding up and never getting into the limiter. Goes extremely well at WTCC!

    I had a lot of fun lately driving the TCR. I really liked the Renault and the Seat. The Alfa is quite balanced and in between. All those basic tips are great but it takes a lot practice to be consistent. That's the key for the average joe like (me). You should do something on trailbraking next, its amazing how fast you can turn with a small amount of practice especially in GT3. Keep it up mate, your videos are really good and not overloaded. Could you also talk with pro drivers about tyre settings etc. You can also gain crazy times with simple adjustments.

    So I do actually have a similar, if more clumsy style, to Dennis. He even talks about oversteering the car with throttle, which is exactly what I meant with letting the car drift a bit with gas modulation. I guess I need to work on that technique.
    I like watching how you drive the TCR as it seems a lot more calm and collected and more in line to how I'd drive a GT3 car, but I found myself a second or more slower around Zolder with regular driving vs oversteer driving.
    Btw Ben I had the same issue with locking up the front too early during breaking and not using full break power. I found out that the Honda Civic was too front break biased for my liking. I can't recall how much I changed it, but it was more than 2%. I think up to 5% towards the back. play around with it and see if that helps.
    Though this video is a year old, you probably are already a much better TCR driver now and I am in no position to give you advice when literally my only experience with TCRs is driving around Zolder for a couple of hours doing hotlapping xD But I do like optimizing setups and I like to think I am not completely terrible at it, so do with that info as you may.
    P.s. I wouldn't be doing TCRs if it wasn't for your videos btw. So thank you :)

    The problem with these cars is that the brakes DO lock instantly on defaults if your brake pedals aren't high end (load cells etc.) because R3E gives zero FFB input on threshold braking. At least I had to lower the brake pressure on my potentiometer pedals to get a good braking feel.

    • @haunted110890
      @haunted110890 2 роки тому

      Odd. I only have T3PAs which are not high end and as you could see on my lap, I did not lock up instantly.

      I also only have standard pedals nothing flash. I use logitech g920 wheel and pedals.

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah so I’d agree you have to be a bit careful re locking but actually I think my caution on the brakes comes from iracing and a bit the F1 games, where braking can be super super sensitive. Tried to brake harder then gradually release on ranked servers last week and it definitely made me quicker.

      On a lot of tracks default brake bias is a bit too much towards the front for me, but 1 or 2% towards the back and I don't have any trouble at all

    Hey Ben, Thanks for the video! Love these kind of videos!
    Quick question: At 8:34 Dennis talkes about being on the throttle early to induce oversteer. But I can't quite figure out how applying the throttle in this FWD car is getting him oversteer. Isn't it normally understeer you get when on the throttle in a FWD car?

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  2 роки тому +2

      So Dennis himself may reply but I think he’s describing the small dabs of throttle together with turning that is allowing him to rotate the car better, rather than flooring the throttle which as you say would definitely induce understeer!

    • @Boonatix
      @Boonatix 2 роки тому +2

      Yep like La Broca wrote it is more the small dabs on the pedal that helps you rotate a FWD car on some occasions, I found that out after some struggle as well ^-^

      @@Boonatix Aaah! Sound like drifters sometimes does when needing to rotate a RWD car, by going off then quickly back on the throttle repettedly. Thanks!
