    Could you manage any job after you pass the test and got the certificate?

  • @WillMoon
    @WillMoon 6 місяців тому

    I guess the biggest question I have is... is it worth it? I'm currently a senior product owner for a company that designs encrypted communications overlay networks and I want to move into management with the eventual goal of becoming a CISO. I don't actually have an engineering background, but rather a manufacturing one, however I've been at my job five years and I would like to get some engineering certs to underpin my core value within an engineering organization. Has the CISSP opened any new doors for you or lead to increase in pay? Do people take it seriously?

    • @gerardobrien
      @gerardobrien  6 місяців тому +2

      Hey Will, I'm not gonna lie or butter it up.. but if you asked me if it was worth it while I was studying I would have said hell no :). But after passing, the honest answer is Yes to all your questions. It opened massive doors for me, new job, pay rise etc. But be aware, certs alone do not get jobs.. they help getting that initial conversation with employers. Big companies are getting 100's of CV's for roles and CISSP definitely stands out. If I was you I'd go on LinkedIn and search for CISO roles that interest you, note down the experience/qualifications required for the those roles.. that will give you something to work towards. CISSP can only help on the journey. BUT before you start, make sure you understand the required work experience to obtain CISSP. All the best!

    • @mattmurphy1990
      @mattmurphy1990 2 місяці тому

      As far as taking it seriously, it's the gold standard of sec leadership certs. I would take some security ops and GRC certs as well to help round out your knowledge.

    • @gerardobrien
      @gerardobrien  5 місяців тому

      Hey there!! You can do the exam with less than 5 years experience... if you pass you'll get an Associate of CISSP certification... then you can work up the experience and apply for CISSP certification. You can apply for CISSP with 4 years experience, as long as you pass another Security exam.. they have a list on their website. Remember CISSP alone wont get you jobs....it will 100% open doors for you though. Hope that helps :)

    Hey how do you know it has a 20% pass rate?

    • @gerardobrien
      @gerardobrien  6 місяців тому +1

      Hey mate, good question! Even though ISC does not share numbers, I spent some time researching and the common pass rate across a number of websites/forums/discord was between 20-40%. Some websites that offer paid training packages will say 70%-90% pass rate.. but i doubt thats true.

      For me it was the 50 test questions too... So many questions that just didn't make any sense... And yea those questions where all the answers are correct.. you need to have a CISSP mindset to know the correct one to choose! That exam aged me a few years 😬

      I've done a lot of networking and security, which was pretty important background info. If you've been heavily involved with the infra your apps run on, you should have a good basis. If not there may be some areas you need to get deeper in.

      I passed my CISSP a year ago and, at that time It was 20% that passed in the first try, I was the only one in that exam that passed in the first try in the exam (you know if the exam doesn’t have ended before the 100 th questions that you are some what okey), it a bit extreme we will have to have two valid in one with picture, and the you will have to get a vain’s in you hand scanning at the start and in the end of the exam (here in Danmark anyway)
