Salvador Sobral 2017 was the only Portuguese to win with the highest judge and public vote to date. Salvador is the record holder for the highest scorer in Eurovision.
Portugal is very much undervalued in Eurovision. Some of the songs that go to contest are so much good but they end up sometimes not make it to the top 10. And some of the ones that failed to qualify actually got pretty closed.

There are some singers with portuguese roots like Nelly Furtano, Shawn Mendes and some actors etc... But typical portuguese is "Pimba" like on 2014 and "Fado" , if you check the 2018 eurovision, like the flag parade, they got to show some of that kind of music.

I think that Portugal was undervalued many many times in ESC. On the top of my head, 1969, 1984, 1983, 1985, 2003, 2019... And I know that many ESC-fans all over agree... Televoting has also not been good to Portugal. Luckily these placings have changed since 2017. Since 2017 Portugal failed to qualify only once in 2019 (quite unfairly, imo). Out of six years, Portugal had three top ten and four 1st half placings, so not bad at all, for a country that consistently sings in their own language except for one time.
