yeah I loved the original cast, and maybe they were held back a little due to the themes and style of the show, but these unknown actors hit it out of the park on their first try and actually made it cool to like Power Rangers again, despite being in your 20's or early 30's

So as I should have suspected, some people didn't get my point about the "whitewashing" comment. I wasn't giving a personal opinion on those arguments, I was just making a point that I've been seeing a lot of arguments lately about wanting more Asian leads and pointing out that this movie has one that I've hardly seen mention. I know the difference between whitewashing, source material and adaptations (duh, what you think POWER RANGERS is, ha ha!) Editing it out. Don't have time for it.

It's strange to say this, but in many ways this is the teen superhero ensemble flick I've been waiting for since the superhero movie trend started. I've been waiting for something like a Teen Titans or Generation X or Young Justice where the movie leaned heavily into the characters' personalities and their interactions. I mean, Spider-Man is okay as a solo thing. And X-Men: Apocalypse was a missed opportunity in that and many other ways. But this movie was just that. Heck, the campfire scene reminds me very much of an issue of Young Justice. The only downside is that the action had to take a back seat to much of the character work.
*sigh* it’s an eternal struggle modern day power rangers faces.

i personally like the suits coming in during the 3rd act because it felt earned. and thats the thing about this movie, it all feels earned. so by the end you say, yes they deserve this. and as a fan i say yes i deserved to see this.

The economy must be terrible if there's an entire district dedicated to abandoned warehouses. At least Rita is kind enough to send her monsters to destroy random buildings instead of a populated city or the rangers' homes.

As a Diehard Power Ranger fan, there are so many things they did inaccurately such as
1. No teleportation to the Power Chamber
2. No power coins to morph(in this movie, stepping on control pads to morph)
3. No “We need Dinozord power now”
4. Rita is supposed to be on the moon
5. No communicator created by Billy
Well no one can deny that even though the real action starts at the end it still blows fantastic four away. Heck I'm sure the third act action scene was longer and better than f.f. So that's something to take comfort in eh everyone? What to you think black nerd?

I really hope Andre does a full breakdown of all the Easter eggs in the movie.
I love the movie. PR got me through tough times growing up and it was nice, at the age of 35, to feel happy again in a world full of negativity. I agree with you on this movie and I want more from this franchise. For those who say, this ruined my childhood.....honey child....my child hood was ruined for other reasons and Power Rangers got me through it and this movie gave me that feeling of happiness I haven't felt in a while. If you don't like it or hate on it, cool. But, like Andre, no one can tell me how to feel about how I feel.

The big thing I liked about this movie is that the Pterodactyl Zord did more here then it ever did in anything ever in Power Rangers.
Overall I really liked the movie, great set up for the next 5 (yes, that's been confirmed) movies to follow. I do agree that a mid-movie Ranger scene was needed, even if it was a flash back scene of other ranger teams. That & Goldar needed a human size monster form. It would follow the same beats as the show: Goldar monster shows up, Rangers fight & beat him, Rita makes her monster grow 😅 by covering him head to claw in gold, then off to the Zords/Megazord.

For the love of God, please let this movie make money. I admit it has planety of problems, but I loved it, and I hope it starts a franchise.
Would be a tragedy if they don't at least get a sequel. Especially in a world where Transformers, Resident evil, and Underworld get sequels.

Ryan Blanche Bruh it's not the 90s kid themed Power Rangers they made it a little more mature but still kept it real to the original power rangers.
I didn't like it......I FUC......I LOVED IT!!!! I was half expecting to go in hating on it, but it grabbed me from the very beginning and didn't let go. The backstories of some of the characters....not all, were explained early on, and this is how it would've been had the original show came out today, I think. Billy stole the whole movie for me, but Trini was fighting right alongside of him for my attention, which is funny because they're probably two of the least cared about in popular opinion. I think I am biased about this, because Power Rangers ruled my life as a kid and the nostalgia wave hit me like a ton of bricks when I watched this. And I swear I wanted to enjoy it, but I went in half expecting to hate it as we;; due to a lot of the changes, but I think they set themselves apart from the original while still being able to capture the audience. I'm 29, and it took me back to when I was 9-10 again, and I loved it......I wanna see it again, in theaters, and I dont do that usually

This movie was so much better than I could have hoped for while it does have its flaws, the acting and effects were phenomenal but the best part was the little nods and Easter eggs that proved the producers were at least thinking of the life long fans

With all due respect Andre, I disagree with what you say about the second act first and foremost. I think how Lionsgate created that part was not only good, but a necessary part of the scene. Because without it, we wouldn't have known much about each of the characters (especially Zack and Trini, who didn't have a lot of backstory to give in the beginning of the film anyway) and it aided for an important climax in a very special part of the film that led to them eventually becoming Power Rangers. I get that we look for Power Rangers as nostalgia that we invested in when we were kids, but we also must remember that the biggest selling point was for us to know more about who the characters are as opposed to just having brawls. If that had happened the other way, the movie would have tanked. Period. Secondly, I don't think you have to worry about Lord Zedd becoming like Goldar because unlike Goldar, Lord Zedd was always a major antagonist critical to the plot. Goldar was a minor antagonist who simply provided comic relief more than anything. I do believe however that Serpentarius is going to be like another Goldar in this film. So when the sequel comes, I think Lord Zedd is going to be the complete badass that everyone expects if not moreso. And yes, I completely agree that at least Bulk could have been in this film. Like come on, man!
I think and this my thought what if they bring Bulk and Skull when Tommy enters the second film it makes sense. Cause in the Red Rangers Forever special they both show up in the beginning of the special with Tommy. I remember Tommy actually being friends with them and kinda having a bond with them even when they left High School they even work for Tommy at a Theme Park so. They must be just like Tommy's going to be a fun surprise.
Also my other thought is why they didn't introduce Bulk or Skull yet is because of how serious it was getting to know the Rangers themselves. Bulk and Skull are real goof balls in the show so putting goofy characters into a movie that is focusing on being serious. It would be no point and the acting would of been confusing for all actors.

I don't care... I LOVED THIS MOVIE... a couple of things I didn't care for but I loved this movie as a fan that grew up on the original and carried on until around Ninja Storm. Very excited to see what they do with the sequels to come in this new Universe. Definitely a Blue Ray worthy cop!
Well, They got the MCU, Arrow verse, DC Movie Universe yet to be set in stone, and now a MMPR universe. Along with Spawn and rumors of another Hellboy being made. Comic book movies are on the rise for our generation.
We waited Zordon knows how long to see Rita kicking Power Ranger ASS herself and actually KILLING one of them !! No need for Putties & Goldar when Banks did such a MEMORABLE Rita !! Oh, and Cyler's Billy ?? Best character, best Ranger of em all !! Naomi's Kimberly ?? As beautiful as Johnson's ?? HELL YEAH !!
I loved this movie. I left the theater so satisfied. I don't know, I guess I'm the type of person that finds it hard to critique a film that I have so much fun with. I really enjoyed the call backs to the original show. However I do agree there should have been another scene with them in the suits. Or a longer scene of them fighting on the ground in the suits.
But it kept us wanting more.

I absolutely loved this movie, I went in with low expectations and it blew my expectations out of the water, I enjoyed it so much!!!

I try to go to every movie with low expectation, if it is bad, I am not let down, and if it is good it makes me enjoy it better. Hype has ruined too many movies for me. I went to see this with friends not expecting much, and found myself really enjoying it.

When the sequel happens, Zed needs to represent!
First, the lunar base, needs to be built, before Zedd appears. Or, both can happen, in the same movie.
I understand how people can be upset they don't get the suits until the third act but I personally think it is better, especially if they are going for a movie franchise. Besides finding the coins, nothing is given to them. They have to earn the right to morph and it isn't an outside source deciding it, it is in the rangers. The power is for defence and protection and until the third act, 4 of the 5 aren't thinking on that level, maybe 3 of the 5. Each ranger got their arc and once they were able to get past the thing holding them back, they morph. Now though, for future movies, they can go all out. Also, I loved the fact Billy morphed first and that nobody realised why he morphed. He morphed to stop a fight and help people. The ranger's brains were not on that level until the third act and something else happens to Billy.

I really didn't mind the lack of Bulk and Skull or the facelessness of Goldar or the Putties. Too many characters would saturate the movie and lose focus in the main characters. This movie fleshed out the rangers pretty well
SPOILER QUESTION:
1. Did Billy died by drowning? Why didn't the Rangers even try to save him with CPR or something? They just declare him "dead".
2. Was the Megazord formed by accident, when the Zords were burning they kinda melted and "sticked" together? Is that what happened? I'm confused.
I was thinking the SAME thing! Not to mention it didn't seem like Billy was under water for that long... seemed a little odd. However, once he came back to life he spat up water, so I'm guessing it was supposed to appear as if he'd drowned. 🤷🏽♀️
And the megazord... I feel like it came together just how the rangers somehow woke up in their beds after the train incident. Nobody knows... Lol
Aldrin Mayday I like to think the Zeo Crystal caused the Zords to form up. Maybe it's sentient in some form and helped the Rangers out in their time of need. Or maybe they did just come together idk but for the few seconds we had of the Megazord it was pretty rad.
Yeah, Billy drowned, but i was wondering why none of them even attempted to perform CPR. Like Zack should've known how to do it since he's taking care of his sick mom...
One theory is that the Zeo Crystal connected to the Rangers' friendship and gave them the power to form the Megazord because it seemed like not even Rita knew the Zords could do that.

Aldrin Mayday Well, if you remember the shot right after he went under you see the rope being closed in on as it tightens. I interpreted it as the rope hung Billy but I don't exactly remember it being around his neck, so take it as you will.
One big disappointment I had was not seeing the zords actually assemble into the megazord on the screen. That was always one of my favorite parts from the show.

I think this was a good movie. They took a campy series, and made a strong coming-of-age movie out of it. They paid attention to the lore, but plugged up some holes.
The only thing that I didn't like: What the heck were the Zords? I could see the Tyrannosaurus, Pteranodon, and Sabertooth Tiger, but what was with the extra feet and legs and stuff on the 'Mastodon' and Triceratops? I wasn't even entirely sure what the Mastodon _was_, there.
What I loved about Power Rangers was that it was literally a power rangers movie and not some trying hard dark version of it. LIke, unlike other "reimagined" movies, this was still honest to every goofy weird power rangers-y stuff we see and loved on TV. I honestly loved it so much haha.

They got rid of the kiss scene because they wanted Kimberly to be a more independent character rather than the typical female role depending on the male protagonist. I am really interested in seeing this relationship develop compared to the shallow one between Tommy and Kim in the show.
Tommy had 3 "romances" in the show: Kim, Kat, and that ski instructor. I want to see some action with the other rangers for a change.
When I watched the show, I wanted Billy with Trini or Kat as an example.
In Boom comics Trini was shipped with Zack.

It would've been really cool if Goldar had a face and talked during the fight, but still loved the movie. I loved the Krispy Kreme placement, it was hilarious!! 😂
I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I thought I would. I'm glad we didn't focus on the kids being screw ups too much, but instead focused on the positive aspects of their characters. They were well acted by everyone, and their seriousness was a great counter to Elizabeth Bank's over the top villainy (which I completely loved!). And that scene when the theme played? Perfect. Everyone in the cinema started going crazy at that moment.
During the first act, especially during the cow scene, I was just sat there thinking 'just get to the morphed stuff' but as the film went on, I found myself completely ignoring hat and being drawn into the story and the characters. They are not my Rangers, but they are good Rangers and worthy of being part of the franchise. And I hope to see a lot more. Because this film is so much better done than the Transformers movies, and they deserve to have their franchise.

I was rather surprised by this movie. I would definitely call myself a Power Rangers fan, but even still I was expecting this to be bad because, let's be honest here, it's a Power Rangers movie. Those don't have the best track record. However, upon seeing it, I was quite impressed. It was good. It's not winning any Academy Awards any time soon but it was a fun time and I really enjoyed myself.
Strangely, though, I found that the 3rd act, once they finally morphed and all the action started was actually the weakest part of the movie which, considering this is Power Rangers, is probably a bad thing, but I'm not even sure. The action was, in my opinion, mediocre at best. It wasn't bad, per se, but it was nothing really spectacular either. For a franchise known for its martial arts fights, this was just a CG fest. Maybe that was because, as you mentioned, they got in the Zords very shortly after morphing. Either way, I felt like it was lacking. Not that the CG was bad or anything, but CG battles don't really impress me anymore. With the character stuff prior being surprisingly strong, particular for Power Rangers of all things, the action being yet another CGI party that we've seen before felt lacking.
I couldn't agree with you more. I enjoyed the film, but was expecting much more from the final action scene.

Loved it! My friend who never cared for Power Rangers had a ton of fun and is totally down for a sequel.
I frickin' loved the movie. I too wish there was a bit more of the actual Power Rangering, but as it's an origin story and essentially a big budget feature length first episode, I was fine with it. In the end, I came for my Power Rangers nostalgia and left feeling a real attachment to this group of characters.

I honestly give this movie an 8.5/10...I loved it, was excited and interested the entire time, it only loses points due to personal nitpicks for me because this was more or less an origin story and in the original show there wasn't much to their first meeting. Zordon finds them, tells them to be rangers, they're like 'No way we're out', Putty's attack, rangers morph and kick ass, Rita summons giant monster, rangers defeat said monster with megazord. The big story arc stuff is gonna come into play when a certain new detention attendee locates that green power coin in the sequel

I think my favorite part of this review was to know that there was no kiss scene. Finally, someone understands that a sci-fi action movie does not always need a romantic subplot just because every movie has one. If people are together, just imply it; show them holding hands at one point or whatever. No need to have a touchy moment with a kiss.
A great example is when they implied Sulu was gay in Star Trek: Beyond. He just walks away with his husband and they've got their arms on each other's back. If you're not observant, you might just think they're friends and miss it entirely, but if you noticed then you noticed. It wasn't shoved down your throat by turning the movie into Sulu trying to save his husband from a bunch of thugs the night before they leave taking up like 30 minutes of run time.
You get stuff like the X-Men movies where Mystique loves Magneto and Charles loves the secret agent lady and Beast loves Mystique and Bobby and Rogue are dating, but Rogue is jealous of Kitty and the movie/franchise becomes Wolverine loves Jean as the biggest source of Wolverine's motivations for anything.

When it comes to movies like this, all I ask is that it's entertaining. It doesn't have to be a perfect movie for me to walk out saying "That was pretty good."

Loved the movie, and it even humanized Zordon a bit instead of the Wise and Patient All-Knowing and all-Powerful Space Wizard that he is in the original Saban Series. Here, Zordon is all about his agenda, into stopping Rita and gets rather impatient with the teens (back to the pit!). And the only sage things he did were giving advice to Jason to be a leader (and this is in the 1st day) and doing the only real good he could, on the last day.
I think this movie went above and beyond everything they could of done one word, "Morphphenomenal"

I'm not surprised. I knew it was going to be low. Like I said in this review, this movie is not for everybody. What I DO think is funny though is that some of the same people that say "DON'T LISTEN TO THE CRITICS! DON'T LISTEN TO ROTTEN TOMATOES!" when THEIR favorite movie got a bad score on there are now on pins and needles listening to them about this one. I guess Power Rangers will be MY Suicide Squad/Batman v Superman ha ha ha!
some of the nasty hate seems bias though. even for a non fan it can't be that bad when it has well done characters unlike Avengers and Transformers AND TMNT 2014

I agree about Goldar, the child in me wanted him to be Rita's right hand monster that talks and is an actual badass like from the show, as I know Goldar was dangerous on his own in the show. But I'll still accept this movie's Goldar anyway, he was still... acceptable anyway.
Going into it, I was just hoping that the movie was going to respect the original series, and it definitely did.
Not gonna lie, I enjoyed this movie very much. It did suck that we had to wait over an hour before they morphed, but it was still fine. I totally wanted Krispy Kreme donuts afterwards lol.
Honestly idk why people think that every movie has to be the best story ever you see these movies out there that are boring as hell getting high ratings. personally I want something that can entertain me and let me mind rest for 2 hours and through popcorn in to my mouth. btw Saban should have contacted Andre the give Goldar a voice!

to be honest when I watched it yesterday I thought "was billy based on andre"?
I like Alpha in this version where he says "Aiyiyi" as a groan rather than saying it arbitrarily.
I was surprised and happy they took that kiss out. I never saw Jason and Kimberly having any kind of romantic chemistry in the show. I liked that they allowed them to be closer friends compared to the show BUT TOMMY AND KIMBERLY FOREVER! So, I'm glad they didn't go there in this first movie at least. I just hope that they keep the same background for Tommy when he joins in the sequel.

I saw Power Rangers opening weekend for my birthday! I enjoyed more than I thought I would. I just also can't accept Goldar. It's just you said, he had a personality. And it would have been so easy to do it right! I know exactly how it could have been pulled off.
I watched it... I LOVED IT! At first I thought the classic theme song could have been worked like an instrumental rearrange... BUT, as you said, it's good to se that they DID go with the classic, that gave it a nice touch, right in the nostalgia
I was really pleased with the PR movie, they treated it with total care and give it a fresh lease of life. I loved the nods to other franchises ;) it blows TF, TMNT, and Ghostbusters out the water. I'm speaking as an OG MMPR and TF fan here

I spent the entire movie waiting for them to put on the suits, and when they did it was in a rushed and kinda boring action scene that was disappointing. It amazes me that people found anything good in this movie at all. It's so slowly paced and you're spending the entire movie waiting for something to finally happen because nothing is really happening for the first two thirds of the movie. They talk, they talk some more, and then surprise they talk some more...sometimes even about their feelings. Eventually, they do remember the movie is called "Power Rangers" and put on the suits but everything from that point on feels like it was made in a hurry and isn't very good. The action part of the movie was kind of boring and the rest of the movie was unquestionably boring. Overall the movie was just boring.
I got the movie from redbox and I still feel like I overpayed for it.
Ha, I tried to watch the movie, once on Redbox and another time, online, but found it to be only okay. They should have had the opening as: the White Power Ranger fighting Lord Zedd, the Green Power Ranger (female) fighting off against: the Red or Black Power Ranger, while the others defend themselves, with their "Power Weapons" against the Putty Patrollers! And that's that! As an opening to a "Power Rangers Movie" that would have, been really awesome to see!

I thoroughly enjoyed that they battled in their separate zords, I'm still kind of nit-picky about the Mastodon simply because it lacks a prominent trunk/tusk combo however.
I got myself a dilemma folks. The film comes out tomorrow but payday is next week. Should I watch the film with my broke ass or should I watch it next week and make a whole day of it complete with Power Rangers comics, morphers and the first season of Mighty Morphin?

people that don't want a MMPR reboot the looks different from the show should just read the Boom! comic book series. It's more adult but the suits, zords, Rita and her crew all look the same as season 1.

I was actually pissed Kimberly and Jason didn't kiss in that scene. It was kind of set up and now with the sequel idk if the reason they cut out their kiss was because they may have Tommy coming in at some point. Either way I loved the movie. Grew up with the rangers. Loved all the references. They morph like they did in the turbo movie, and they mention the Zeo crystals every other scene. Just waiting for that In Space
