  • Today I review Acustica Audio Ultramarine plugin. Based on the Legendary Fairchild 670. We will also compare it to UAD's Fairchild Plugin.

    Love your reviews but when comparing the 2 comps just duplicate the track and flip between the 2 so we can hear the two without blips. Great job!! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

    I prefer the UAD. I feel like Acustica add a little be of low end bump, and i tend to record a lot of hip hop vocals with severe mic proximity effects.

      @@hodshonf I honestly don't know. I'm on the fence right now. There are instances that I ended up just using the AVID stock Fairchild. Now I'm not saying that Acustica's is bad, but it has not been special. I only had this plugin for a month so maybe i need more time with it dunno

    • @blashuvec

      @@hodshonf I mean sure! Though I do think the Overloud one sounds closer to the UA than it is to the Acustica. Acustica adds a bit of top-end which is great but to me it sounds a bit too much just for my taste. I'd probably use the Acustica on a guitar bus to kinda charge the guitars a bit cuz sometimes the UAD can get a little too warm with guitars but for vocals UA wins and Overloud comes so close that if I didn't have UAD I'd probably choose Overloud AND it has three diff versions of a Fairchild which is super cool! Puigchild sounds deadass so good as well! It's like with hardware like no two Fairchilds will sound the same but it's the "flavor" you try to listen.

      @sub-jec-tiv 10 місяців тому

      Yep. Used to work in a studio with a real 670. The massive massive internal components give it a really deep ‘dimensional’ sound. The Acustica is the only 670 that has it. The UAD is good too, and i use both! But the Acustica just has that original 670 vibe, gotta be because it’s sampled.

    just amazing how UAD is losing pretty much every comparison against AA. UAD are decent plug ins, just terribly overpriced. the whole PR campaign is working great - people praise them like nothing else (if you paid 400 bucks for a little piece of software you better. i think its due to the technology - with algorhythmic plugins you can only get to a certain point, acustica is working like a dynamic multi layered impulse response thing and it seems it captures the saturation aspect of vintage units way better. and in the end its 75% about that, compression or EQ curves arent such a challenge i think.

    • @dirkchurlish4074
      @dirkchurlish4074 3 роки тому +1

      i could not agree more with your sentiments regarding UAD's marketing and plugins. what's funny to me is it seems to be only Acustica fans who attribute AA's quality to the convolution technology and use this "algo" four-letter word hehe. I really do not believe that. if i had to guess, i'd say ultramarine smokes this UAD plugin because it was made better. i don't believe it is because the convolution approach is inherently better sounding. i actually don't think saturation is hard to capture, either. if i had to guess what makes hardware compressors sound so much better than plugins, i'd guess it has something to do with the way hardware (and tape) presents the mid frequencies throughout the attack and decay portions of sound. the gap i've observed between hardware and plugins are is not bridge-able with saturation and/or eq because there is a time-based element to the handling of sound. compressors are really showing this difference and i wonder if the leading edge of a sound being mid-focused contributes at all to this 3D thing we hear. because "3D" is absolutely audible in mono. it's not a stereo thing exclusively. but i think time domain may have something to do with it. this and cream are the AA plugins that have impressed me the most so far.

      @@dirkchurlish4074 They're loosing money by not making their plugins more affordable though. To people like me, it's really not a biggie if I don't own any of their stuff because there are so many more "dope", affordable options out there. I would have been bought a few of their plugs if they weren't so ridiculously priced. No thank you though. Not until the price comes down anyway.

    • @mookiiieeee

      @@lightafluident.9950 they do sales and they are quite affordable and being able to run off dsp is much more reliable. acustica plugins are incredibly sluggish and kill work flow and im sorry but uad blows them out of the water in dynamics plugins and arent far off in every other area. theres a reason the pros use UAD, waves, and soundtoys as a standard. its because they work, are stable, sound great, and dont take up much cpu.
