Thanks for the video, one thing though: UAD Bus Comp was on Ratio 2:1, while Sand 3 Bus Comp was on 4:1. Also Attack was on 1ms for UAD Bus Comp while on 30ms for the Sand 3.
Yep. Useless review. Other stuff he does are often good. Most people would be interested in 9000 EQ and bus and neither got tested. The Sand download from AA is 3gb!
EQ A: 4000G Black Knob EQ B: 5000 Brown Knob EQ C: 9000J Comp A: Quad-Bus Comp on the console Comp C: Modified Comp A Comp D: Channel Comp on 4000G Preamps: 4000G from a different studio
Hey Man, love you diving through this and got a ton out of the beginning of the video! Just a heads up, you were comparing a 2:1 SSL to a 4:1 Sand which is definitely going to impart different characteristics. Appreciate you doing this! Nice Work!
Great video Matty. Ended up buying it based on the summing alone. I have a question, you are using lines on stereo material. Does the plugin automatically configure the mono line to deal with stereo material ?Any help appreciated. Great video
The Attack and Ratio settings differed during the UAD/SAND SSL Comp A/Bing, so it was bit of an uneven comparison, but still a solid sounding plugin. I'll definitely be checking out SAND. Cheers!
I have all the ssl strips from the Solid state logic,Waves and PA, but sand just has something that the others dont .The compression is something else .Do a mix with this on all channels and the buss comp on the master bus and that is the sound of records
You gota check out Lime 2 It has to be set by ear it's a little harder to sit but that plug in if you push it the right way sounds like a straight-up piece of hardware
You must have a powerful computer to run all those instances cause it's pretty CPU heavy! but it sounds great. The sand compressor edges the uad one for me
@@mixedbymatty I'd love to see your take. I'm working on a project now where I'm "tracking" on Navy across it's mic pres, then mixing on Sand on it's line pres. Like most Acustica stuff, the change is subtle, but man...it's really nice.
Thank you Matty for the thorough review!

ass

Every new Acustica Audio release is a step forward... This one is their best compressor at the moment, in my opinion.
Totally agree.
Acustica has come a long way since this video was made, my current favorites are Black and Silver.. good stuff
EQ A: 4000G Black Knob
EQ B: 5000 Brown Knob

Comp A: Quad-Bus Comp on the console
Comp C: Modified Comp A
Comp D: Channel Comp on 4000G

+Sean M. Sinclair thank you so much man! Think I had the EQ’s but wasn’t 100% sure about the compressors.
could you make a review on Gold 3 by acustica audio as well please
Hey Man, love you diving through this and got a ton out of the beginning of the video! Just a heads up, you were comparing a 2:1 SSL to a 4:1 Sand which is definitely going to impart different characteristics. Appreciate you doing this! Nice Work!
Yes and the attack times on the heavy compression were both different. 1ms vs 30ms
Thanks man!, appreciate you taking the time to go through Sand3, ignore the haters! 🙏
great review - cleared up the workflow, very straightforward.
picked it up for the intro deal!
thanks!
Why are you closing the plugin window to access another plugin on the same track??

Sand 3 comp sounds much better than the UAD SSL4000G, imo.
I have both by the way.

+Christian Caldeira ya that was my fault. If you watch a bit longer you will see I corrected it.
@@mixedbymatty u never cprrect the ratio....
oh now i know how to use all those pre on my navy. grand merci

It seems to me if you use this Sand 3 with the Harrison mixbus you will in fact have in the Box mixes sounding like console mixes.
You gota check out
Lime 2

As posted by others, match the ratio and attack and you'll have a fair shootout
I just realized you had different ratios on them 2 on uad and 4 on sand
You must have a powerful computer to run all those instances cause it's pretty CPU heavy! but it sounds great. The sand compressor edges the uad one for me
Ya. Gotta Imac Pro. :)
He has a bunch of expensive outboard gear. I'm sure an updated computer is no issue, LOL!
Nice Video!! Between your ssl g comp hardware and acustica's g comp emulation, What's better?
Maaan...love this cool stuff and how you compared them.I take SAND 3 instead UAD. straight..!!
Nice review can you make one on AMETHYST4?
Woolf you recomend this over the new gold3 ? (Neve)
How about the cpu?
Sand 4 review?
Nice review ! - solid plugin this one .
Dam I'm buying that tonight
The comparison of the buss comps is completely flawed. Different ratios/attack times on both compressors.
Have you tried Navy2? They also did the multi line/multi mic pre thing and it's awesome!
Still gotta try that one!

Interesting plugin 🌲🙌🌲
hey... u never saw ur ratio was different? really?
Nice video!
Thank you!
The Pres have a similar effx as Avid Heat
Acustica upstaging SSL on their own gear? Imagine that! lol
Thanks
I prefer "let's gooo"
Sand Win
got rid of the sigma?
Very observant. :) Yes, I did.
@@mixedbymatty was the pre section in sand that good? What's replacing it?
@@joeyf808 nothing. Sand is great. I'm mixing more and more in the box. Cause it sounds great.
@@mixedbymatty I've owned a ton of outboard, i'm down to the basic essentials, more focused on outboard gear for master buss & mastering.
@@joeyf808 same here. And even mastering in the box sounds great now as well. :)
Get UAD plugs and save yourself some bullshit UI with acustica stuff
You get yourself Sand 3 or Sand 4 and feel the true sound of analog in the box. UAD is for kids under 14 years 😉
