    Nigel, I still gasp when you root prune the way I used to gasp when watching Tony (Tony's Bonsai) bending branches. I have root pruned as drastically as you very recently on small trees but still can't bring myself to bend branches as drastically as Tony did. A brilliant video yet again.

    I guess I need to bring my Jade in. Its about to get a bit icy along the California coast! I get really excited whenever the weather is stormy! Our winters are cold but rarely drop below freezing so my trees can be outside all year round except any tropicals or desert plants I will train in the future. I planted some black spruce seeds I got for Christmas this winter, but I don't know if they will like our hot summers. Fingers crossed. I love the humor you put into your updates and videos of your French Lilac! It helps improve the learning environment!

    Not long ago you said someothing about forums. Today I hear you talk about taking care of small seedlings. One of the things i like about your channel. is that there is a lot of channels out there where you see someone starting a tree. Many of them, there is never any picks of work on established trees or update, follow ups on started treees or the like. This makes you wonder if they have even had any trees survive.

    Hello Nigel,
    What percentage of perlite to turface do you do? Also is that the same for larger trees? I have salvaged some large yews from the local dump.
    Thanks for your time

    Nigel, I notice you use black training pots...I heard that black pots get really hot and can kill your roots...Obviously not because you seem to use them all the time...Can you way in on this topic for outside full sun trees...Thanks...

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  13 днів тому

      Black pots can definitely get really hot in the sun. Frequent watering will help keep the trees cool and if the tree has a good canopy, it helps shade the pot. I have been using tinfoil on the top of the pot to help keep it cool!

      @@TheBonsaiZone - So would it be better to try and avoid black pots for lighter colors (Tara-cotta)? My sun is full from 9:00 - 1:00 and I watering the mornings about 6:00 so thew trees are moist for the day...Thanks for your insights...
