- Not super happy about this time, it's maybe possible to finish this in under 20min. Not building a turret behind the base cost the repair facility and unnecessarily misdirected my focus back to base. Should probably use harvesters as cannon fodder and other optimizations are also possible.
I tried rushing initially from different spots to get quick kills on construction yards and heavy factories, while building rocket turrets at the front of enemy bases. However, rushing trough the rocket turrets inflicts too much damage and it's likely wisest to advance from bottom left, even if it's a slight detour. I also tried building forward bases at different spots behind enemy bases for rocket turrets and repair facilities, but that just messed up the micro too much. Might be possible to make that work.
man...you're still playing/making these kinds of videos. salute to you sir. thank you for the nostalgia trip and hopefully you can make an another 100 dos games video.
Nice run, thanks! The music at the final scene is the best. These OPL2 patches used in the Dune 2 music are really unique, too. Using the FM chip to its maximum.
You are an artist! I've just spent 1h22min in this mission.
Great play! I cherish the little Dune 2 content that has made it to UA-cam... Will there be more of the Settlers 1 campaign? Also, the other cool 90's strategies like C&C or Warcraft...?
Thanks. I doubt I'm going to play more of Settlers 1 at least, you never know, but feels too slow paced for my liking. Settlers 2 might be more interesting. I never was that much into C&C myself, except for Generals / Zero Hour. That was fun in multiplayer, at least for me. I have a casual playthrough for both Human and Orc campaigns in Warcraft 1 ua-cam.com/video/PqczlhTpT2I/v-deo.html I've been considering about another retro RTS to speedrun, but there's been lots of improvement over the strategies in Dune II lately so I've been kind of focusing there.
Oh yes, I didn't see that warcraft playthrough, thanks.
Omg, you nearly lost your entire base to that sonic tank!
Yeah. Didn't build turrets at the back of my base so it did some damage. There was no chance it could take out all structures before getting targeted by the front turrets though. I just lost some time, because it confused me, even though the air drop is expected. Could definitely optimize on this mission easily.
You still did well by not concentrating too much on that sonic tank diversion but continuing your attack.
What are your settings for the DOS-Box / D-Fend Reloaded?
I can imagine the game is faster / slower depending on the CPU-Power that you chose?
Yes, you need to adjust cycles. There's a speed cap though so you can't increase it indefinitely.
I think that for a correct measurement of time there must be a common time/speed setting. That's why I asked. Speed runs are about shortest "time".
@@marcuswright5577 As I said, the game speed cannot be increased indefinitely. After certain point, increasing cycles will only affect map scrolling speed. So it doesn't matter what cycles you are using if you have enough.
Okay, so it's a setting that is just above that point then, I guess. Hopefully it's the same speed then on all player's computers.
@@marcuswright5577 If you look at any of the videos of Dune 2 they should run on same speed, unless someone had it on running on low cycles. There are many DOS games that don't have a performance cap. This game is not one of those.
