Do we need to replace the chip each time the ink runs out? or is the trick to just refill the ink in the refillable cartridges to keep using the same chip? I'm asking for a 7820.

No, you can't use the ink that comes with the printer to print on T-shirts. The ink that comes with the printer is regular ink and won't work for printing on T-shirts. To successfully print on fabric, you'll need to switch to sublimation ink or another type of fabric-compatible ink. Using the standard cartridges won't give you the results you're looking for on T-shirts.

I have converted. My first time doing this. I guess I chose the wrong printer since there isn’t a lot of videos out there and most say you cannot use this model. But the initialization was complete and I’m using asub paper but it won’t print anything. Help! I’m wasting print outs and “ink” since these chips only work until the printer estimates the ink should be gone. Also, any idea on when they 3rd party cartridges might be available to get around this work around?

Hi Valarie, i got about 90 prints out of my first fill. So i calculated the price of the new set $70 divided by the 90 prints = $0.78. However, that definitely varies depending on the size prints that you are printing out. I mainly print mugs and tumblers. if you are printing t shirts and large hd panels then the amount of prints will be a lot less. The printer at this point without the auto reset chip is not very cost effective. That is why its very important to keep track of the number of prints and add the cost to your items.
I'm thinking of getting a Epson 7820 do you think I should get the warranty with it? I think I read somewhere that if printer is converted to sub and messes up they warranty will not be honored. Also, should I use the Epson ink until empty before pulling the chips out? Just seems wasteful to not use them.
Hi Peajay, no you can’t use the Epson ink. If you use the Epson ink the chip will register as empty and you won’t be able to use it. This is what consumer law says about using aftermarket ink, “Consumer law states that a manufacturer's warranty cannot be voided due to using aftermarket consumables (ink cartridges or toner). It is the responsibility of the printer manufacturer to prove that an the compatible printer cartridge or toner caused the damage before refusing warranty repair”. So if you normally get warranties then I would get it. Of course this isn’t legal advise. Just what I would do.
@@LeeLeesCraft No. I saw someone's video who has it and said it prints very slow. She said it takes forever. I got the Epson Eco 2760 and I have not converted it to sublimate. It's ok. I do like how easy it is to add the ink. That was the other reason for getting the eco. I don't have time for buying extra to convert the 7820, swapping out chips and extra cartridges. That adds up. I am using the original ink up first in 2760 if I keep it for sublimation. I may buy the Epson Eco 15000 for Sublimation and large printing and keep the 2760 for regular printing. Right now the 15000 is not in my budget.

Hi Alejandra, to prime the inks once you fill them with the sublimation ink you place the syringe to the ink cartridge and press up to pull out any air that might be inside the cartridge. You repeat that process a couple of times on each ink. You are correct, you will need to buy original epson inks every time it reads low and replace the chips again. Hopefully kits will soon be release that that won't continue to be the case.

Hello, My husband purchased a Epson 7840 printer, when I printed my first image, lines came out on my image. Do you have any advice? I’m using the Cricut for the program.

Hi Angie, Yes i was doing that for a while and still am when i need to print large prints. However, for anything that i can print on a 8.5x11 sheet i am now using an Epson ET-2760. I will be doing a video on it.

hi Edgar, it can be an expensive proposition especially if you are printing large prints. Yes, i have experienced that. Once the chip reads empty you have to buy original Epson ink for the new chip. That's why its very important to price your items correctly taking that into consideration.

According to Epson, If you see an error screen telling you an ink cartridge is installed incorrectly, lift up the scanner unit and press the ink cartridge down until it clicks into place. When you're finished, select OK
Unfortunately, as of now, it's still not possible to install chipless firmware on the WF 7820. There isn't a chipless software available for this printer model, so you'll need to continue purchasing new chips when the cartridges run low since they don't reset. I know it’s not the ideal solution, but it's the only option at the moment.

You can switch the cartridges to the sublimation ink. However, you will need to do several print head cleanings to flush out the old ink. That will use up your first set of sublimation ink reasonably quickly and the chip. The bad thing about this printer, for now, is the need to purchase new Epson ink cartridges every time the printer says empty.
Vanessa, yes, you can use the 802xl cartridge with pigment ink. Just keep in mind until a converter kit or chipless drivers comes out for that printer you will need a new set of Epson Ink to remove the chips from every time the cartridge is empty.
Have you noticed that it happens if you let the printer sit without use for a day or two? I have the same thing happen. If i let it sit for a couple of day i first do a print head cleaning. I try to print something from the printer even if its a small image at least every other day to stop that from happening.

Are you to remove the bottom plastic tab/groove on the bottom of the new cartridge? It looks like the chip is not secure and flush to the new cartridge due to this one tab. Any assistance would be appreciated. And also don’t know if there will be errors once these are put into printer like others seem to have 🙏🏻

@@LeeLeesCraft Thank you!! I ended up removing the little tab on bottom of the new cartridges and it worked! The only problem is my image did not transfer exactly the right colors. The green printed GOLD and the red was more pink. I will message you. Maybe you can help! It may be something I did or shirt I used.
These are the steps that I take to try to resolve that issue. Take the problem cartridge out of the printer, shut the printer off, disconnect it from the power, press and hold the on button for about 10 seconds and let go. Reconnect the power and turn it back on. After the printer finishes loading, try the ink again.
But once you hit Epson's initial yield, you will need to go and get Epson's manufacturer cartridges and do this all over again pretty much. Hopefully, chipless or augmented cartridges will soon release.
Hi Jamille, what printer settings are you using and what size prints are you printing? I started printer 12x12 HD panels and they go through a lot of ink. i can probably only get about 10 HD panels per cartridge fill.
Sorry to hear the printer isn’t recognizing the cyan ink. You can give this a try. Take the cyan ink out of the printer, shut the printer off, disconnect it from the power, press and hold the on button for about 10 seconds and let go. Reconnect the power and turn it back on. After the printer finishes loading, try the ink again. Let me know if you have any luck with that.

Hi Erika, the Epson 7840 and the 7820 are the same. The 7840 just has two paper tray while the 7820 only has one. You'll be able to convert it using the same ink and cartridge that i posted in the video description.

Hi John, with Terrah the issue ended up being with the printer. She replaced the printer and the new one started working fine. She emailed me several photos of her ink and chip setup and everything was as it was supposed to be.

Unfortunately, there isn't any tricks right now. You'll need to replace the chips each time.

Great Video! Always make sure to prime those cartridges. It will help make the ink flow better during the initialization/set up of the printer.

Hello thank you for this amazing video! I was looking into the cartridges you linked I read that the cartridges do not reset when I refill so I would have to buy new cartridges just for the chips. Have you been doing this or did you find a better alternative than having to buy new cartridges simply for the chips? Thank you in advance 😁
Hi Angie, Yes i was doing that for a while and still am when i need to print large prints. However, for anything that i can print on a 8.5x11 sheet i am now using an Epson ET-2760. I will be doing a video on it.

I have the epson 7820 & I bought cosmo ink that came with cartridges .. but the black cartridge from cosmos ink is bigger then the epson cartridge and I don’t think it fits .. will I have to buy new refillable cartridges with no chip?
Hi Angel, there is a large version of the cartridge that fits. So give it a try.
It saids that everytime you run low on ink you will have to buy original epson ink cartridges and removed them chips from them over and over again isn't that an expensive proposition? Have you experience that or were you able to reset them
hi Edgar, it can be an expensive proposition especially if you are printing large prints. Yes, i have experienced that. Once the chip reads empty you have to buy original Epson ink for the new chip. That's why its very important to price your items correctly taking that into consideration.

I haven't been able to find refillable cartridges that come with the chips that work on the 7820. I know there are a couples companies working on it.

According to Epson, If you see an error screen telling you an ink cartridge is installed incorrectly, lift up the scanner unit and press the ink cartridge down until it clicks into place. When you're finished, select OK
Are you able to instal the chipless hardware into the WF 7820 and not have to buy the chips Everytime you’re running low as they don’t reset?
Unfortunately, as of now, it's still not possible to install chipless firmware on the WF 7820. There isn't a chipless software available for this printer model, so you'll need to continue purchasing new chips when the cartridges run low since they don't reset. I know it’s not the ideal solution, but it's the only option at the moment.

@@LeeLeesCraft I actually figured it out once you upload the disk it is pretty easy to use....but a video on different polyester %shirts verse price brand and quality....or just what ever brand shirt you prefer

It's fairly hard to do without the printer driver. They have the driver available for both Windows and Mac.
Hi, quick question. Can I set up the printer with simulation even though I'm already using the printer for regular print jobs?
You can switch the cartridges to the sublimation ink. However, you will need to do several print head cleanings to flush out the old ink. That will use up your first set of sublimation ink reasonably quickly and the chip. The bad thing about this printer, for now, is the need to purchase new Epson ink cartridges every time the printer says empty.
i have a question? Can I convert my 7820 to pigment ink, using the 802xl? I already have the 7720 converted to sublimation. TIA
Vanessa, yes, you can use the 802xl cartridge with pigment ink. Just keep in mind until a converter kit or chipless drivers comes out for that printer you will need a new set of Epson Ink to remove the chips from every time the cartridge is empty.

I converted mine but the black ink is bleeding - any ideas on how to fix this?
Have you noticed that it happens if you let the printer sit without use for a day or two? I have the same thing happen. If i let it sit for a couple of day i first do a print head cleaning. I try to print something from the printer even if its a small image at least every other day to stop that from happening.

Hi, after you print out the design you press it on a shirt that is at least 65% polyester. Then you press at 375 degrees for 45 seconds.

Can Sublimation work on cotton?
For the print to come out the best it should be on 100% polyester. You can sublimate on cotton but you'll need a heat transfer vinyl to sublimate on.

Hi I just converted my Epson wf 7820 to sublimation printer when installing the driver can I just choose printer driver only ? My computer is recommending to install combo package includes driver scanner fax software updater. I was told not to ever update firmware.

Are you to remove the bottom plastic tab/groove on the bottom of the new cartridge? It looks like the chip is not secure and flush to the new cartridge due to this one tab. Any assistance would be appreciated. And also don’t know if there will be errors once these are put into printer like others seem to have 🙏🏻

@@LeeLeesCraft Thank you!! I ended up removing the little tab on bottom of the new cartridges and it worked! The only problem is my image did not transfer exactly the right colors. The green printed GOLD and the red was more pink. I will message you. Maybe you can help! It may be something I did or shirt I used.
Why you dont use a CISS Epson printer? like 3160
When i bought this printer i needed a printer that was able to print up to 13x19 inches. I now have the Epson f170 which is an CISS printer.
I’m on my second round of refilling my cartridges and now it’s saying it doesn’t reco my cartridges. I’m freaking out! Help 😩😩

I’m having that same issue. Help
These are the steps that I take to try to resolve that issue. Take the problem cartridge out of the printer, shut the printer off, disconnect it from the power, press and hold the on button for about 10 seconds and let go. Reconnect the power and turn it back on. After the printer finishes loading, try the ink again.
But once you hit Epson's initial yield, you will need to go and get Epson's manufacturer cartridges and do this all over again pretty much. Hopefully, chipless or augmented cartridges will soon release.
Yes, i am hoping that they come out soon. However, this is a way for people to get started without having their printers just sitting there.
My ink went out after 17 pages is there anyway I can slow the process down. I saw that yours was half after 18 help please
Hi Jamille, what printer settings are you using and what size prints are you printing? I started printer 12x12 HD panels and they go through a lot of ink. i can probably only get about 10 HD panels per cartridge fill.

Sorry to hear the printer isn’t recognizing the cyan ink. You can give this a try. Take the cyan ink out of the printer, shut the printer off, disconnect it from the power, press and hold the on button for about 10 seconds and let go. Reconnect the power and turn it back on. After the printer finishes loading, try the ink again. Let me know if you have any luck with that.

Yes, i contacted cosmos ink a few weeks ago regarding the kit and they still don't when they'll be getting it.
I just emailed them yesterday and received a quick response “we will be carrying them once we can get them”. No time line.

Hi Erika, the Epson 7840 and the 7820 are the same. The 7840 just has two paper tray while the 7820 only has one. You'll be able to convert it using the same ink and cartridge that i posted in the video description.

Hi John, with Terrah the issue ended up being with the printer. She replaced the printer and the new one started working fine. She emailed me several photos of her ink and chip setup and everything was as it was supposed to be.
