Burrito. Chase was hilarious as usual. It was super interesting to see all three of you liking AER's understated esthetics more but thinking Bellroy's innovations was more important to the industry.
Bellroy all the way as a woman because of color options & esthetics…I have 3 Aer bags more for travel and getting tossed everywhere… go Aer !!! I’ve gifted and own more bellroy… can’t wait for Fyro Aaron… you’re killing me!
Another awesome episode - you're doing amazing work! The Aer Go Pack 2 is amazing, genuinely one of my favourite bags. Bellroy, I've definitely had multiple quality issues - more than with any other brand - and the worst customer service. They have a terrible warranty for such expensive bags which makes me think they don't stand by the quality of the bags they produce, and so many times you hear stories that Bellroy do all they can to not honour their warranty when people reach out to them. I've experienced that, too. Those things put me off Bellroy when they do some amazing designs and use great materials. (Also please stream your group therapy sessions!)
Thanks so much! And I do think that as bag reviewers we can lost sight of things like customer support and warranty - I plan to bring this up in future conversations and try and pay more attention to it in the future
Considering aesthetic, AER is a very tough/heavy looking/ bulky and perhaps simple style. Belroy has things that are available that fit more styles and more color options.
I like the « saturation « or competition… it’s better for the costumers… because competition breeds quality and creativity … we all don’t like the same products….we get over things fast as well!
Style-wise, I think Bellroy seems to be a little more hipster, and Aer is a little more street. I hope this Podcast catches Aer’s attention though because I’d love to see some more risk and innovation from them. However, if Bellroy would “beef up” their harness system and back panel like they did on their Transit Travel packs…they’d win for me, hands down because their materials feel way more upscale and are just so much nicer to interact with on a consistent basis. This was an awesome episode. I’d love to see an episode on Boundary Supply vs. Peak Design vs. WNDRD, or one between Black Ember and ALPAKA or DSPTCH. Would also be interesting to see an episode on previously “hyped” bags/companies that were hot a few years ago, but are basically defunct now…Everyman, I’m looking at you! 🧐
Yes, Bellroy makes choices that I don’t really like. Ex. The Transit Workpack is not what I thought it would be. Only reason I got it was where it was made-in retrospect should have picked up a Cotapaxi. Was going to sell it on “The Marketplace”…but it seems my wife has found occasional use for it now. Alas, the backpack collection will continue to grow and not shrink.
Burrito. Honestly I was pretty negative on Bellroy before, mostly because I never felt that the value was there. But on the design side, they are killing it and would love to see how they develop.
I have/had a few Aer bags, with some that are better than others. I would definitely consider buying a Bellroy bag one of these days, IF they came out with a functionally/aesthetically pleasing EDC bag with dual, exterior water bottle pockets. They gotta do it quick, though, before Evergoods releases their CTB20/22. Once that gets released, I don't think I'll need another bag in my life.
Loved this. I don't like podcast normally but this one was fun. Also @chasereeves JNCO pants are coming back, at least in my area. They are selling between $180-$260.
Love it guys! Chase hooked me on bag reviews years ago…. Although I am sure he is sick of hearing “Business Papers,” I have to say that him finding a space for ummm Papers may be my favorite repeated line on the entire internet of all time. Chase was the one who converted me into a full on bag nerd, Bo was also there when I needed a good review and now you, the only one I've followed since the channel launched and now I see you breastfeeding your baby (Fyro bag) and I tear up a bit. I enjoyed this so much, I laughed a lot and it was just really fun to know all the brands you mention and the specific version of that specific sling hahaha, I became a NEEEEEERD! (Homer Simpson style) I love these comparisons. I only have one Aer bag and I have like 7 Bellroy bags and also wallets and keyholders and pouches, I don't know. I would love to get more Aer bags but Bellroy keeps coming back to me. Chase mentioned DSPTCH, for example, I have a lot of DSPTCH bags, they are futuristic yet so simple and stylish at the same time, not like Boundary which is too Cyberpunk sometimes. the JNCO reference got me in shambles.... for me, as far as most of their products i'm really torn between these 2 brands... but when it comes to backpacks i'm leaning more towards AER. probably because i'm from a mountaineering background & im used to having packs that are a bit heavy, coarse, & have thick padding. i enjoyed your discussion
Bellroy is just beautiful to look at. Easy recommendation when guys want to buy pouches or bags for their girlfriend, wife and daughter who do not want the same black tech/tactical look.
32:11 I got slightly embarrassed when Aaron emphasised his dislike for the Aer Travel Sling 2 😅. It's so on point. It's also hard to admit, but yeah it's a bit hard to work with. I was in love with it when I first got it. But for a while, I realized that it's kind of unusable in most of my use cases. I always find myself having to set it down whenever I sit down or getting in the car which kind of defeats the purpose of a sling. But I guess I can live with it because of its unique design and versatility for multi-destionation travels.
I'm probably the core user, I use in interchangeably with a bolt briefcase for carrying my laptop to the office. I wouldn't use it for travel, but it's the biggest sling best suited to carrying a big laptop, plus an easy transition from standing to quickly sitting in a train. Or swinging to side or front to avoid bumping into people.
@@Celica.3sgte yeah if my company gave me a 14" laptop instead, I wouldn't use this, but the tech sling or boundary errant sling instead. Contrast that with the fact I'd still use my suitcases no matter the size of my laptop. It's a narrow niche it's cut out for itself.
The Fyro T22 is the ultimate modern work bag for people who get shit done. In fact, in not actually a backpack... it's your command center. This is the type of design we've been creating and the positioning we'll be heavily leaning into in our launch in 3 weeks 💪
That’s a double steak burrito right there. I’m a couple months into this bag addiction and I found this video superrr interesting. I have the Bellroy Transit Workpack coming in the mail, along with classic pouch, and CAP2!
Best live podcast you've done! Totally agree that Aer Go pack 2 is awesome 🙂 it's the first and only Aer product I've bought. Been backpacking for 25 years and only just go into these brands. I was a basic stock standard Osprey user for the last 15-20 years but now they are everywhere when you go traveling and have limited design innovation. At first I didn't like the Aer Go Back 2 because of the lack of a back panel, then I fitted my my own makeshift back panel in the laptop "compartment" and wow, the bag just works really well, just enough oganisation inside and out, excellent design, great materials and build quality. I use it literally everyday now. If they made one with a padded back panel it would be one the best small backpacks ever. Great job guys and great discussion. My first Bellroy sling (any sling) is on the way now, and I'm almost 50! Oh yeh, the pricing of these bags are too high in my opinion and I could never have afforded them when i was younger, so i agree that is the biggest negative.
Burrito!!! 🌯 Aaron - GREAT episode! I was a fan of Chase before anybody else in the carry community, and since then picked up your feed and then Danny Packs, and became a Pack Hacker Pro. This is my first intro to Bo! so I have now Subscribed to his feed also. :-) I don't think I fully acknowledged that I became a "bag nerd" until I realized how much I LOVE this episode where three dudes just nerd out on bags! LOL Thank you all for helping to make this bag nerd thing a cordial community of creators - the great thing is that there is room for all of you in our lives! Keep it going...
Fun conversation. I have to say, I still haven't just gotten on board with a sling. More brands is good, as long as they're aren't 4 doing well and 1000 just keeping their heads above water. Question: How do brands like Aer and Alpaka get their pricing what I think is mostly low for what they're offering?
lots of factors go into play such as customer acquisition costs, cash flow, overhead, materials, funding, market positioning and the overall business model. Impossible to say for sure!
@@Nomads.Nation I guess it was more a generic question but they came to mind. Might be an interesting topic of why some brands of seemingly equal quality can be so different in pricing.

burrito! epic video! love the healthy debate. would like to point out, AER seems to be moving away from the gruff, smoking, well shaven, ballistic nylon, to the recycled nylon in their new series, which imo doesn't look as sexy as before imo
27:55 again Bo as motorcyclist we will always notice things about products that we use while riding that most other people probably would never think of. And it is always the little things like that lip you mentioned…
Very Interesting, stimulating, and educating discussions as far as Great brand manufacturer. Considering the high price tag, due to their materials and design. This Fashion stands since the time of “East Backpacks” and “ACE” (Japan) clutch bag. The AER uses Ballistic nylon, for its durability and can be used the back pack as your shield that can withstand for unavoidable shoot out?…. Anyway, it is Great to hear outstanding and awesome ideas.
19:40 bellroy Venture backpack is a great backpack that is now discontinued. Its my doctor bag for 24h shifts and i basicly live from it. Great great and so versatile bag
@@Nomads.Nation yep they put it in the outlet and later it disappeared, to bad because sheer ease of use and versatility of the capacity and weather protection were unmatched. That access is so quick much faster and better than zippers, and there you have a top loading bag with giant opening with being able to clamshell it... makes my life so much easier

I feel I’m late to this whole “sexy” bag party , although I’ve had plenty of “normal” bags. Started watching Aaron last year when my son went off to Uni and I want to get him a nice bag for all his tech. Now I’m fully down the rabbit hole. So much so I’m making the rest of my family get up at 5am (3 hours earlier than we need to) this weekend so we can add a visit to the AER store in London to a trip we have to watch Rugby. Thanks.
I feel like northface can give Bellroy a run for their money in value and in how northface has hit the major market and it has a sick multi purpose use for trekkers and I can’t lie the northface router is looking clean
great suggestions! I think Tom Binh vs Osprey would be a better comparison. Both are legacy-ish brands that mostly look like crap but function so damn well ;)
@@Nomads.NationI got to say I respectfully disagree. I think Tom Bihn Vs Go Ruck would be such an interesting concept. One is pure hardcore EMBRACE THE SUCK. The other is complete dad core. But both have a long history with bag nerds and are known to almost outlive the person and have amazing warranty. I also think how both completely take different approaches to bags is so interesting tom is super about pockets and organization but also about letting you decide how to pack with the O rings while go ruck is just like here’s a hole fill it! Just my opinion loved this episode please have chase on more!

Agreed! Bellroy is definitely boring and Aer is more on the forefront of cool. Don’t sleep on Sympl though. They’re coming up and making some really cool gear!
Aaron did you feel like Chase kind of inadvertently shit on your journey of making a bag or did you feel like you're doing it for the right reasons and it didn't relate to Fyro? I felt like he didn't realize he was speaking to a first time kickstart bag man.
not at all! He knows I'm on this journey and I agree with his overall assessment - I feel like Fyro was started for the right reasons as I've spent just as many hours thinking about the brand and our story as I have making the bag itself :)

Bellroy has a huge reach with Amazon that Aer doesn't. That alone introduces millions to the brand.
great call!
What program do you use to record- stream yard etc
Riverside, love it
Dude this was amazing. Only thing that coulda made this better was if mr. Australia was here. Good job on this one man!
Mr Australia? 🤔
Legendary podcast !!
it was so much fun 🤩
I feel like northface can give Bellroy a run for their money in value and in how northface has hit the major market and it has a sick multi purpose use for trekkers and I can’t lie the northface router is looking clean
I haven't reviewed a NF bag yet, can't wait to!
You guys were definitely in your bag with this one
💪
oh Chase love the go! the one I just bought that I loooooveeee
❤️
Cowabunga.! Chase is the goat.!

I agree! Too much fun haha

Happy to see this EP.
thanks for watching!
Juicy burrito nerd. Thanks for the great discussion and thought provoking content.
thanks for listening!
I really had to work to set aside the time for this, but I am enjoying my burrito 😂
🌯
Wayne Enterprise developed the Bellroy Apex
makes sense
Tom Bihn vs Goruck or Peak Design vs Nomatic next please!🙏
great suggestions!
@@AlyxAugust great points! That would be a good comparison
We’re still listening !! Burrito baby
BURR-EEE-TOOHHH
Just spent an hour on Spotify… closed the app… opened UA-cam… found this vid… all to say… 🌯
BURRITO!
Huge burrito! Love you guys
🌯
Aer never responded to my return requests, they are the worst! I think this is also something you have to mention transparently on your channel…
Interesting as I’ve only heard amazing things about Aer support. Thank you for sharing!
I can show you if you are interested to report. Maybe your info is outdated.
@@mmavvaj my info is based on responding to dozens of UA-cam comments from this channel every single day, and I think I can legitimately say that you are the only person to ever complain about them on this channel (and I get tons of complaints about other companies very very consistently). Having said that, send any info you have over!
@@Nomads.Nation First, I am super impressed by you responding to all my comments! 🙇🏻♂️ Also, they finally got back to me after multiple messages and follow ups since last week, they stated that their system was down and they were not able to receive massages, they forwarded me the shipping label and instructions. Thank you!!
@@mmavvaj very glad to hear :)
Love the pod!
It was so fun
Bring Chase back again!
Noted!
@@Nomads.NationThis guy has addictive energy. Definitely Chase needs to come back
@@jcap8391 dude, Chase is an absolute LEGEND! Hoping to get him back on soon :)
bellroy = boring (site looks dated)
aer = fun
also, alpaka & black ember = new wave fun imo
cheers!
Agreed! Bellroy is definitely boring and Aer is more on the forefront of cool. Don’t sleep on Sympl though. They’re coming up and making some really cool gear!
Don't miss the pastoral rant 1:13:12 to 1:16:07
just keepin it real
BURRITO!! haha...good stuff guys...but you were all wrong...but I won't tell you where...😜
new channel idea - JBurrito. A channel where you test and rate the best burrito places in the world during your layovers 😂
@@Nomads.Nation ya know...that's not a bad idea...🤔

Aaron did you feel like Chase kind of inadvertently shit on your journey of making a bag or did you feel like you're doing it for the right reasons and it didn't relate to Fyro? I felt like he didn't realize he was speaking to a first time kickstart bag man.
not at all! He knows I'm on this journey and I agree with his overall assessment - I feel like Fyro was started for the right reasons as I've spent just as many hours thinking about the brand and our story as I have making the bag itself :)
Slings over 40 are no problem!
I think I agree but I'll weigh in on it in 5 years haha
@@Nomads.Nation It has been a bit annoying as I was using slings before they became popular. Now it looks like I’m trying to jump on a trend.
Burrito baby! Loved this. Chase got me into bags. I watched his Tom Bihn synapse 25 a million times before picking it up. Still use it all these years later.
BURRITOO
Great pocast ep! Chase was a welcome addition. Oh, and burrito!
