I feel like Jeremy has "short attention span" because I thought this movie was fantastic and one of the best movies of this year never a dull movement during my viewing.
+Abel Villa (The Cynic) don't get me wrong I liked the movie, but I totally agree with him on this. The whole scene with the random cowboy bar and that guy were never followed up on in any way, a lot of cool scenes but it did honestly come to a litteral "crawl" at times. and the fact the climax had nothing to do with the main character was weird to me. 7/10
The switch of pov from Emily to Benicio is a master stroke. It sums up that the story was NEVER about her, she just made it possible by legitimizing the operation. It was always about Benicio's character the clue is in the title "Sicario" not "FBI tag along Lady." I enjoy this guys reviews but how did he miss that one? Star Wars actually follows R2D2 but it's not about him it's about Luke. Pay attention.
For me, the movie almost felt like a nightmare. It's extremely tense and the danger felt very real. Having Emily Blunt's character go through the movie confused and helpless amplified those feelings for the audience.
It was a nice realistic take on the height of the War on Drugs in Juarez in around 2010-2011. Most of my military friends were impressed on the amount of detail that went into depicting tactics, use of firearms and even how everyone communicated with each other before and during missions and firefights. I will say Emily Blunts character annoyed me a little. I get she wasn't about fighting dirty but she should of understood that these guys weren't going to play fair or by the book. I did like the reveal at the end about Alejandro and that being said Del Toro was amazing.
I can't believe how anyone could've been bored watching this movie. I've probably watched it about 7 times now & I'll never be able to replicate how I felt the first time I watched it but I still love it after repeat viewings & that doesn't happen with a lot of movies, it could be because of the stellar cinematography or the brilliant pacing or that there's no scene out of place in the movie, every scene serves a purpose. There's a lot of ways to read into the movie but the POV shift to me clearly showed how absolutely nothing was in 'Kate's' control from the beginning, the ethics & morals went out the window as the movie went on & the minimal dialogue between Fausto & Alejandro, and Alejandro & Kate served such a perfect end to such a grim story. Not to mention the all around aspects of the movie, music, direction, acting, locations & something that is so basic to filmmaking, the 'climax', everything was stunning.
Which was Chris's only flaw with the movie tho. Generic story and he still gave it an A. Would u give it the same grade as Chris or would u give it an A- or A+? I'm just curious
+jdg20042001 please don't say its basic I'm so sick of hearing that, the moral ambiguity of the film combined with Emily Blunt's inner moral conflict at the films climax offer wonderful depth and complexities to this already fascinating film. It may ostensibly seem basic, but the complex nature in which the characters are portrayed and the questions the film raises on the nature of the war on drugs are extremely thought provoking and far from basic.
+jdg20042001 I thought the film was excellent. The only complaints I might have are about Silvio's storyline. It's a little obvious where it might be going, and the characters aren't in it enough for us to care about them.
It's so jarring when Jeremy brings outside objects on to the camera (i.e letters, Star Wars curtains, Gipsy and Danger, etc.). You get so used to just seeing a well-dressed man in front of a red or blue background with the ocasional picture that you forget "oh yeah, there is actually a physical world outside of this review space." That, ladies and gentlemen, is called *IMMERSION*. Or maybe it's just my ever-slipping grasp upon reality. Probably the latter.

I enjoyed the fact that the movie followed Emily blunt until the end as it kept Benicios character shadowed but kept giving that hint that something big was going to happen, such as the scene where he talks about his family. It's honestly one of my favourite movies, I've never experienced something so intense.
+luca dejesu (DeJesu and Deininger) Exactly, Martian was a good movie, but Jeremy said This movie dragged? when the Martian had some long winded parts.. both great films, tho. I'd buy both on Blu Ray. & I will.
inb4 the kids begin to cry about a rating for a movie from a UA-camr. Are you kids joking? Grow up and the deal with the fact that people have different opinions, welcome to life.
jeremy jahns works as a mainstream movie reviewer, but when it comes to reviewing films like this, I wish he would just skip them. because this is so beyond his taste that he comes off a bit condescending towards actual films with substance, great use of form (images and sound) and movies that challenge you with themes that stay with you
Noooo!! I love to laugh my ass off when Jeremy tries to review theses type of films. Nah but in all seriousness he should really sick to superhero movies. Anything else seems to go right over his head.
There's only been a handful of movies that I've only seen once and might never sit through again. But on the top of that list is definitely Schindler's List. Greatly shot, directed, acted. But its such a slow movie, and brutal at that. Doesn't take away from the fact that its a great movie
Not ever bored during this movie. This movie is phenomenal, the tension is certainly the drawing factor in the movie. Del Toro and Blunt are so gripping, and Brolin is right there as well. The entrance to the tunnel with the thermal imagery combined with the "descending in to chaos: music score is simply most riveting. Sicario has got to be one of the best films of all time.
so glad you brought up the work of art vs. entertainment factor thing. a LOT of people don't and really need to understand the difference (including critics)
+Doc James Burton Just watch his videos, you will get his rating system pretty fast. But I'll give you the different categories here since people nowadays are too lazy to look stuff up on their own. In order of worst to best, his ratings are as follows: Dogshit, Won't Remember in T-Minus (time frame), A Good Time...If You're Drunk, A Good Time No Alcohol Required, Worth Buying on Blu-Ray, and Awesometacular.
1) Awesometacular 2) Worth on blue ray 3) No alcohol required 4) Alcohol required 5) T minus X (x = some amount of time ex. 1 day, 20 mins), which means you won't remember the movie in 1 day or 20 mins... 5) Dogshit 6) Void
I love the fact that you mention that this is your channel.... I always see people complaining here because they disagree based of another review they see some where else... this is your review, and that's theirs
This is awesometacular for me. The slow pacing isn't a flaw. It works beautifully and it really builds I would say the nature of the film. Because of the slowness, there's quietness, and the quietness of the movie really helps you get suckered in.
i had the same issue with this movie as I did with inglorious basterds. Awesome movie, but it slowed down too much and another gunfight or 2 in the middle would have remedied. And i'm glad the final part shifted to Del Toro because I had enough of Emily Blunt. The whole movie is just her looking at everything happening around her being in way over her head. Like watching Saving Private Ryan with fucking Upham as the main character instead of Tom Hanks.
i agree with you Jeremy. there's a lot of moments where i felt a little bored. but that doesn't mean that i didn't like the movie, i just wish there was more "holy shit" moments. the movie could've been better in my opinion.
Understand that Jeremy's expressing his own opinion, but I'd appreciate a movie reviewer to have the ability to peel the onion and see through the message the director was trying to portrait. The climax wasn't the action, but the emotional confrontation between Benicio and Emily. Personally, I'd be happy to see the movie a third time.
Good review, but you need to be more careful on the way you talk about movie endings. That was kind of spoiler-ish. I've seen you do that a few times now. I still intend on seeing the movie and I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I like your stuff, but it's just something to keep in mind.
+YoungBlaze Of Chitown It's like he said man, the movie drags in places, and the focusing on Del Toro in the final act IS kinda jarring. that knocks it down a peg or two.
+Robert Brunner *SPOILER ALERT* In my opinion, if Blunt's character died from that shot it would have made an even better movie. Of course you'd have to rewrite the ending but that would have been a neat way to pretty neat way of wrapping it up.
+Robert Brunner But I mean, Del Toro taking the podium in the last 30 minutes was kinda the point. Emily's character is only a scapegoat present for legal confirmation. Only by taking the left turn and doing something radical as hiring an assassin who is the real catalyst here, shit gets done. Nevertheless, with endlessly devastating moral implications. And the whole movie is about dancing on the line between what's morally justifiable in a "war". After all, Benicio is the title character. And man, if the tunnel scene alone didn't make up for all the "slower" scenes for you, I don't know what could have.
That was really good, so suspenseful. I loved it when Alejandro took down those guards and that cop towards the end without giving a single fuck, that was truly badass. Even when he killed the family, seeing the look of horror and sadness at the same time on the guy's face before imminent death was truly amazing, perfectly done. The main character kinda sucked tho tbh, I found her very annoying and had no place in that field. Most of the time I just wished she'd shut up and get on with it. I loved the ending, that even though it looked peaceful and playful, the gunshots reminded you that there is still violence going on. Such a good movie, 10/10
I really enjoyed Sicario, I'm not really the type to get nervous for characters in movies or be on the edge of my seat during tense scenes but this film really got my going. Like Jeremy said it executes tension and sets a mood very well and even the most "boring" parts of the film (like when *SPOILERS AHEAD* they were walking to the tunnel at night, and it was just consecutive shots of them all walking in the dark with night vision goggles on) the mood was kept up and I was anticipating something big because of the sound design, which was a big part of why I liked the film. The movie didn't really have that much of a soundtrack, mostly just low long winded booming horn sounds in tense sections or no music at all. The only time I thought of checking my watch was when *SPOILERS* emily's character went to the police department to try to investigate a bank account owned by the main bad guy, it dragged on way too long and could have been shorter or cut entirely. Overall I agree with Jeremy's review except the whole checking your watch thing, I give it 8.5/10 because there are a few things that could have been done better but is a great film none the less.
Comparing Sicario to Star Wars could not be more inaccurate. Sicario's Kate isn't supposed to be where she is, and doesn't belong, unlike Luke who is considered "the chosen one." We are Kate, unaware of how dark and disturbing the ride is going to be, acknowledging we shouldn't be here. She's essentially the pawn of the film, whereas Alejandro is revealed to be the big piece.
Haha, I love how Jeremy did a whole disclaimer before rating the movie about how he thought it was a very well made film so everyone won't be like, "Daaaaamn, Jeremy!!! Only a 'no alcohol required'??? Why'd you hate this movie sooo much, maaaaan?? It was awesome!! Why'd you poo poo iiiiiiiiit??". .....but people are probably still saying that.
For those who have not watch this movie. Don't read any reviews or film summary. Go watch it not knowing what its about and you'll be blown away. Absolutely best crime/thriller movie of the year.
Yes possibly, but remember it's his opinion he's entitled to give whatever rating he wants to any film, that's how an opinion works. If he personally enjoys the superhero genre more than other genres, then obviously he's going to rate superhero movies higher! He enjoys that genre more so he is likely to enjoy the movies more.
I saw an advanced screening of SICARIO and I loved it. I made a review video on my channel too. If I used this dude's stupid rating terminology, I would've given it an awesometacularBestMovieOfTheYear rating. I'd love if you could check out my review! haha
+Advanced Prime No one's being a dick. Stop throwing out names and let people give their opinions back. You respect this guy's opinion? So let everyone else say their opinions and you should respect those the same way.
+StealthKun and dont forget The Punisher...!!! he tried to kill emily blunt and got his ass handed to him by The Collector while Thanos sat in the front seat and laughed haha! (like he does most of the time in the sanctuary) and anyways Emily Blunt was first shortlisted to play Black Widow before Scarlett took it. really hope she gets inducted into the MCU. she is such a great actor and it would be nice to see her taking on the role of a super hero.
The reason it shifts away from Emily Blunt is because it's not really her story. Things are out of her hands, she's slowly succumbs to the hopelessness of the situation and how powerless she is to stop the rampant abuse of the law she witnesses within the task force. It all comes to a head in the movie's very final scene.
This guy clearly didnt get the vibe of the movie lol..... that star wars comparison was idiotic to say the least. They are completely different movies, not even the same genre.
Emily Blunt is brilliant and everything, but other than the focus for the audience what was the point of her character? They didn't need her for the mission. They just let her tag along. Whenever she did try to do her job they told her she wasn't helping.
+Jeremy Jahns NOOOOO!!! You changed the "no alcohol required" clip...let us take a moment to mourn its passing...That "tour de force" bit though...that's meme gold right there :)
Your review exactly reflects my thoughts on Sicario. You can certainly praise it for its cinematography and acting. But my god, what a bore. From the beginning of the movie I knew Benicio Del Toro's character had a personal reason to be on this mission, that Josh Brolin's character was from the CIA and that he needed Emily Blunt to continue his mission. Aside from the action scenes this movie made me fall asleep.
I have to agree, the movie was too slow. They had so many scenes where they'd be walking up a hill, or smoking for over a minute or two! You may not think that's a lot of time but when you're watching a movie and they keep the camera focused on people walking up a hill you get bored. Also you can argue it adds emotional effects to the movie but for me, it only added boredom. The movie was well directed and the message was very interesting, but I'd never watch it again to be honest...
+Penguin Publisher I disagree, it was not boring for me at all, I don't know why people are complaining about it being boring, just because its slow paced doesn't mean its boring.
Hey, Jeremy. I know you probably don't watch Gotham, but I'd really like to hear your opinion on the actor who plays The Joker in the first 3 episodes of Gotham season 2. And also the ending to episode 3. It's worth talking about it so please do.
+il If you want to get some impressions before his review after the season finale, follow him on twitter. He'll usually make a few comments here and there that get across his overall opinion.
Robert Brunner Really? Gotham is alot of fun, i haven't seen the flash but never heard anyone say good things, although i just seen it's on netflix so ill be back
I didn't feel the movie dragged at all, and I saw it twice. This movie gripped me like nothing else has this year. Even during quiet scenes of conversation I felt as things were going to go bad at any moment. The suspense was incredible. I enjoyed this more than I did 'The Martian', and that was a hell of a film!
Was kinda surprised you didn't mention the opening 20 or so minutes of the film... they were AMAZING!!!! I think that's what made the middle/end suffer a tiny bit, it felt like it could have been so much better. I liked the movie, but a little more advanced pacing here and there (and perhaps a tighter ending) would have made it a better film. Now, if I could just get Denis Villeneuve on the phone....
Nailed it. Completely nailed it. I feel like this movie was trading on the 'cool' factor of its 'A' list actors, and some good cinematography, but the story was pretty lame and the character development was pretty shitty.
+FloppyFlapjak Why? Just because he doesn't know who a fictional character is? I've heard about people that haven't seen Star Wars before. That's because they are all watching Star Trek, and Star Trek is way better then Star Wars...
@Jeremy Jahns you're spot on with your review, throughout the movie you get this feeling of waiting for something to happen and it just doesn't take place. I agree that it was a good movie but like you said it's pretty much a one and done scenario, I also thought that it was odd to have Blunt be the focus for most of the film to then have her play second fiddle to Del Toro. I could tell from the beginning that this was going to be a movie that aimed for a message rather that having some kind of hero/happy ending outcome. The ending is just telling us "hey this is real life raw and uncut", what I take away from watching this is that it's aimed for the viewer to think and not so much about entertaining.
+DylanisHere But it's only been in the US yet. I don't mind what he said about the end, he didn't spoil anything, but yeah, the defense the movie is out isn't always working.
Fair enough but if the movie isnt out yet why would you watch a video that may give certain details about a movie. Not saying jeremy spoiled much but it has been known in reviews little bits of information sneak out. This isnt meant to be a diss or anything bud I'm just sayin'
+Dr. Larry Mitchell That's the point of Emily Blunt's character. She is thrown into something way over her head and is confused as to what her purpose is because she is always so used to doing everything "by the books" when that is obviously not being done by Josh Brolin and company.
I get your point about Blunt getting faced out by the end of the story, Jeremy. The thing is, and it's worth remembering: the 'Sicario' of the title... that's Del Toro's character. So, ultimately, it's really his story, not hers.
[Spoilers] From the way I see it, the purpose for the switch of focus between Kate and Alejandro towards the ending (from the moment Matt tells the truth about Alejandro to Kate) was to reveal and clarify the whole purpose of the operation. To set up the moment of truth. So I guess Kate and Reggie wasn't just used in the film to give the CIA the ability to take action at the US borders but also (in a way) used by the audience, through Kate and Reggie's curiosity, to break the suspense of the film. I don't know if this was how the director intended but hey, it's just a guess :D P.S. sorry for some wrong choice of words, not really a good English speaker.
I feel ya, Mr. Jahns. Some movies are just so well done, you can't help but praise them, yet somehow lack that extra something that makes you want to EVER see it again. How does that work? How can that be? Sometimes shit just be funny like that.
This movie is so intense at times. It has great cinematography. The music just makes you cringe throughout the movie. I will admit, this movie was a one time watch. If you are expecting a movie with with long gun action scenes, this is not that movie. There are no cheesy firefights. This movie is more of your slow espionage movies where plots just play out. The movie did not have much rewatch value. However, although it is a one time watch, it is a GREAT one time watch.
I didn't really think I'd want to watch it a second time (my first time was at an advanced screening before it was released, and I made a review on my channel by the way) - but I went to see it a second time this week, because my friend hadn't seen it yet, and I was flipping out. I loved it even more than the first time! When you watch something for a second time, you usually notice things that you missed or hear something else that makes the story make even more sense to you, etc. I had a bunch of those moments while watching SICARIO again! You could at least a try it :P OR at least just check out my review maybe :) haha
+Nicholas Tran I think I'll watch it again to admire the more technical side of the movie. I thought the action was pretty clear and great. Basically highly trained soldiers versus a bunch of gangbangers. That highway scene was intense but for all the right reasons. Cartels are assholes but against the spec op dude,s there was no chance at all. Violent but efficient. It was really intense because they weren't supposed to really pop anyone in the US or Mexico.
I saw this movie about a week ago, and I thought exactly what you said. It got super boring but was a well crafted/executed film in terms of technical skills. But no one was saying it. Everyone online was praising it like it was Gods gift, and I got confused and was waiting for someone to say that it got super boring at some points and wasnt friggin perfection. Im glad you were finally the one to say it and not be pressured to give a perfect score.
I understand its your own personal rating and you're not going off unbiased criticism, but this was one of the best movies I've seen in a LONG time. I nitpick movies like a critic and i could only find one single solitary problem with this movie. And that is when Kate and that random military guy are on the roof watching the gun fights in Juarez from at least 2 miles away and theres a small explosion in the distance and it doesn't portray the sound travel, it just immediately implements the *boom*. Other than that this film was perfectly made and beautiful.
Jeremy, I think you missed the all point of the movie: Emily is not the hero and she never was. She is a tool: used by Villeneuve to drag us in the nightmare of the cartel and used by Benicio and Josh to accomplish what they plan to do. This is a world of wolves- eat or be eaten. As for the lack of action: this is a thriller movie! The movie starts with a large angle (with the action in a city) and the more the movie goes the more the spectrum of action gets smaller and smaller (the tunnel), giving you the feeling to be trapped with Emily in a game you don't know the issue. Great movie in my opinion.
he was on Collider. it was a video with John Campea and Mark Ellis about the pros and cons on Internet film criticism. pretty lengthy but worth checking out
Jeremy.... I have watched this movie about 6 times since its DVD release. each time, I find new hints to what's gona go down. Love it to bits. Though based on what your critique states.... The best movies are the ones you only watch now and again, because, they are so memorable???
This movie was great, just go in thinking: Traffic pt 2 It wasn't slow or boring, it isn't an action flick.. I enjoyed the movie thoroughly, I'd say: Buy it on Blu Ray. Great acting, suspenseful & good plot. The only let down, imo? Is The woman, and how she walks around like she runs everything & being demanding, but they turn it around nicely. So even that, it's great.
You should try doing a review for Primer. Its a movie that came out in 2004, it makes interstellar and inception look like fast food commercials. I'm a fan of the way you do reviews for sci-fi movies, and this one of the best ones out there. If you haven't seen it, you should definitely check it out! Would be interested to know your thoughts about it.
I really don't understand this, and this is where I think Jeremy separates himself from reviewers like Stuckman and the Schmoes. First off, it didn't seem like he wanted to watch this movie. It took people requesting it and 3 weeks after its initial release. Doesn't make sense because he reviews movies like the Green Inferno and the Intern instead. I get that movies are subjective and this is his own opinion. But it seemed that he went into this movie not really wanting to see it. Anyways I think this is a great movie and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I didn't find any part boring because most of the scenes were tension builders. I hope it gets an Oscar nom (obviously it won't win).
I would like to address your complaint, Jeremy. Emily blunt Is the only one who goes through the journey as a character. the protagonist doesn't always have to come out as the most powerful one in his or her universe. Benicio Del Toro is still the supporting character cause he has no character transformation. It's like how Sherlock was defeated by Mycroft so many times in the novels.
I found the pacing of this film to be perfect actually. The action was understated but it was absolutely visceral and impactful (not sure if that's a word). Oh and you know those movies you love because of one stand out scene? Two words. Fatal Dinner!
If your bored by the 'down time' you kind of misunderstand where this films going. It all adds and builds to the overall atmosphere of the film and the fact Del Toro is the 'real story' reflects exactly how Emily Blunts character feels. She is totally new to this world, just like us watching. And in the end the narrative not being about her reflects the fact that there are bigger players at work beyond her 'boots on the ground' type.
Love how you keep true to your system. This is your channel and your opinion. I don't always agree with it but I like earing your take on movies, and your honesty keeps me coming.
I was never bored at all in this film I was gripped from start to finish but to each their own I guess

+luca dejesu (DeJesu and Deininger) Not a popular opinion among clueless casual moviegoers. Among critics, Sicario is easily more praised/respected.
+Movie Muscle good point man
+luca dejesu (DeJesu and Deininger) Well, your the novel type, story are important then looks.
Have seen this movie 3 times. Each time it's excellent.
For me it's gone from great to excellent to almost a masterpiece.
It's a great film.
inb4 the kids begin to cry about a rating for a movie from a UA-camr. Are you kids joking? Grow up and the deal with the fact that people have different opinions, welcome to life.
What are you talking about? No one in the comments is saying anything like that.
+Tate Hildyard yea because he's in b4 it happened
Tate Hildyard What do you think "inb4" means?
I thought you were replying to someone with inb4 as a username.
Tate Hildyard Nah haha it was just quicker to type it like that.
jeremy jahns works as a mainstream movie reviewer, but when it comes to reviewing films like this, I wish he would just skip them. because this is so beyond his taste that he comes off a bit condescending towards actual films with substance, great use of form (images and sound) and movies that challenge you with themes that stay with you
Yeah I know it's annoying. He gives Age of Ultron awesometacular, & gives this his version of a "c"??? Just skip it Jahns.
Noooo!! I love to laugh my ass off when Jeremy tries to review theses type of films.
Nah but in all seriousness he should really sick to superhero movies. Anything else seems to go right over his head.
I know hindsight is 20/20 but he liked mother and that movie is considered art film and condescending.
You guys are so fucking pretentious holy shit
He only reviewed this b/c people requested it.
There's only been a handful of movies that I've only seen once and might never sit through again. But on the top of that list is definitely Schindler's List. Greatly shot, directed, acted. But its such a slow movie, and brutal at that. Doesn't take away from the fact that its a great movie
Mine is Eternal Sunshine. Great movie. Also, fuck that movie. In the eye.
requiem for a dream
+Tom Pen Hmm, The Fountain and A New World.
+Tom Pen Grave of the Fireflies. Beautifully animated film but it is so depressing I've never been able to watch it ever again in it's entirety.
I couldn't even sit through it once.. Lol
Sicario has got to be one of the best films of all time.
so glad you brought up the work of art vs. entertainment factor thing. a LOT of people don't and really need to understand the difference (including critics)
ok, you definately need to explain your rating levels. in the next video, do that.
I've done that in a few videos. happy hunting.
+ohair87 wasn't there a rating worse than dogshit in the fifty shades of grey review? Lol
1) Awesometacular
2) Worth on blue ray
3) No alcohol required
4) Alcohol required
5) T minus X (x = some amount of time ex. 1 day, 20 mins), which means you won't remember the movie in 1 day or 20 mins...
5) Dogshit
6) Void
Or just listen to the review and don't care so much about the ratings. You can see whether or not he likes it based on what he says.
I like that you're sticking to your guns and rated the film as a film and as entertainment. Respect 💯
Imagine if Jermey would actually break the beer bottle each time he said: no alcohol required o_ o should be a massive pile by now :D
+MrRapolas Because you would never clean broken glass of the floor?
lol! the thought of that made me laugh
+Jim Stewart Cohen It's a joke.
LordVader1094
*YOU'RE A JOKE!*
Jordie S
that was the point ^_^ made me laugh 2
i get what you are saying about entertainment and art, and the fact that you understand and acknowledge it makes you even better in my eyes
Jeremy Jahn should play Egon in the Ghostbusters reboot. I'm just saying he has the acting chops and charisma.
I love the fact that you mention that this is your
channel....
I always see people complaining here because they disagree based of another review they see some where else...
this is your review, and that's theirs
Jeremy's videos are great before you watch the movie and Chris stuckmans are great after the movie.
Finally hahaha, everyone else is praising this movie as some sort of cinematic masterpiece when it's really not as good as Prisoners, as a whole.
Jimbothy what are you doing here
Shut up
Fuck off
But it is a cinematic masterpiece
I still intend on seeing the movie and I'm not trying to give you a hard time, I like your stuff, but it's just something to keep in mind.
this is not a marvel movie , what the fuck are u doing jahns , i love how those always get awsometackler
+YoungBlaze Of Chitown It's like he said man, the movie drags in places, and the focusing on Del Toro in the final act IS kinda jarring. that knocks it down a peg or two.
+Robert Brunner *SPOILER ALERT*
In my opinion, if Blunt's character died from that shot it would have made an even better movie. Of course you'd have to rewrite the ending but that would have been a neat way to pretty neat way of wrapping it up.
+Robert Brunner was iron man in this movie?
YoungBlaze Of Chitown No but he's in The Martian
Jeremy, just make "LE TOUR DE FORCE" an actual rating, I'm sure many of us would fucking love that.
+Korey D I'm not being sarcastic btw
+Korey D He's done that before, actually, just like in his "Our Idiot Brother" review.
I was never bored and I’ve rewatched it at least 3 times over already.
The notification for this video woke me up at 5:00 A.M. Thanks, lol.
For those who have not watch this movie. Don't read any reviews or film summary. Go watch it not knowing what its about and you'll be blown away. Absolutely best crime/thriller movie of the year.
if the movie started with a marvel logo at the beginning, the movie would've get an awesometacular
+james carter Featuring (future?) Cap'n Marvel, The Collector, and Thanos
So let everyone else say their opinions and you should respect those the same way.
man, even Infinity War didnt get Awesometacular
Dude made two Star Wars connections and now Benicia del toro is in Star Wars 👌👌👌
Emily Blunt is one of my two celebrity crushes.
I love the scores on Sicario. Sparse, haunting, dark ambient music
Jeremy Jahns uploads at real nigga hours
Sorry
Don't apologise just smashh dat buttn!!!
Fuck does that mean?
+John Barnes You don't know what real nigga hours are? Get the fuck out of here
+Para Soul He lives on the west coast, makes sense
+John Barnes Who cares what real nigga hours are, they have a Doctor Girlfriend pic. Case closed.
Based off your rating scale, what would you give Schindler's List?
emily blunt, guillermo del toro & josh brolin together Hmmmmm :^) I think we all know who should be our Captain Marvel
Yaaasssss! XD
+StealthKun and dont forget The Punisher...!!! he tried to kill emily blunt and got his ass handed to him by The Collector while Thanos sat in the front seat and laughed haha! (like he does most of the time in the sanctuary)
and anyways Emily Blunt was first shortlisted to play Black Widow before Scarlett took it. really hope she gets inducted into the MCU. she is such a great actor and it would be nice to see her taking on the role of a super hero.
It's Benicio Del Toro
Benicio Del Toro*
Benicio*
The reason it shifts away from Emily Blunt is because it's not really her story. Things are out of her hands, she's slowly succumbs to the hopelessness of the situation and how powerless she is to stop the rampant abuse of the law she witnesses within the task force. It all comes to a head in the movie's very final scene.
This guy clearly didnt get the vibe of the movie lol..... that star wars comparison was idiotic to say the least. They are completely different movies, not even the same genre.
Spin-Off/Prequel confirmed... 'Soldado'- based on Del Toro's character
Review Legend, Jeremy
Emily Blunt is brilliant and everything, but other than the focus for the audience what was the point of her character? They didn't need her for the mission. They just let her tag along. Whenever she did try to do her job they told her she wasn't helping.
It's like a wasteland in here...
Can anyone hear me? Oh god.
These are the end times.
Boo nigga!
+Guinness The Menace Perhaps for Toriko at least lol
+Ytremz Too soon, man... Hell, even though it's getting rushed, it's still hype as fuck.
I am the one who runs from both the living and the dead
Maybe I'm used to these type of slow paced movies, never seem to bore me.
+The Fake Slim Shady I think the trailer might have deceived them. which is why I only watch the trailer once and I go see the movie.
The Fake Slim Shady When you have ten different consecutive shots of 6 black cars driving through customs for 5-8 minutes, it gets boring.
Hey, Jeremy. I know you probably don't watch Gotham, but I'd really like to hear your opinion on the actor who plays The Joker in the first 3 episodes of Gotham season 2. And also the ending to episode 3. It's worth talking about it so please do.
PLEASSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE DO BRAVEHEART CAUSE ITS BEEN 20 YEARSSSSSSS
Good review! Any tips on someone just starting out??
Will you do a Flash season 2 premiere review?
+il he ususally waits until the season is done, its better that way
+il If you want to get some impressions before his review after the season finale, follow him on twitter. He'll usually make a few comments here and there that get across his overall opinion.
+il you prefer that over Gotham?
A Beautiful End I think we all prefer that over Gotham
Robert Brunner Really? Gotham is alot of fun, i haven't seen the flash but never heard anyone say good things, although i just seen it's on netflix so ill be back
I didn't feel the movie dragged at all, and I saw it twice. This movie gripped me like nothing else has this year. Even during quiet scenes of conversation I felt as things were going to go bad at any moment. The suspense was incredible. I enjoyed this more than I did 'The Martian', and that was a hell of a film!
god damn it man. stop being so american and just enjoy a good story
Shut yaaa neck ass up
+manuel ramirez are you a cartel member
Was kinda surprised you didn't mention the opening 20 or so minutes of the film... they were AMAZING!!!! I think that's what made the middle/end suffer a tiny bit, it felt like it could have been so much better. I liked the movie, but a little more advanced pacing here and there (and perhaps a tighter ending) would have made it a better film. Now, if I could just get Denis Villeneuve on the phone....
Aside from the dinner scene, this movie bored me to tears.
Nailed it. Completely nailed it. I feel like this movie was trading on the 'cool' factor of its 'A' list actors, and some good cinematography, but the story was pretty lame and the character development was pretty shitty.
Narcos review?
I just found out a friend of mine didn't know who Boba Fett was. I was like "I'm sorry, but I can't be seen with you"
+FloppyFlapjak Why? Just because he doesn't know who a fictional character is? I've heard about people that haven't seen Star Wars before. That's because they are all watching Star Trek, and Star Trek is way better then Star Wars...
I know it's a Star Wars character but I've never seen any of them .
LoneStarArcher lol no
Sicario was too slow and thought-provoking for "casual-blockbuster fanboy" JeremyJahns.
+Movie Muscle So Whiplash (his favorite of 2014) is considered a casual-blockbuster, now?
Yea the movie is boring because not enough spiderman flying around chasing batman.
Also not enough references to the other movies in the franchise. Also there was no after-credits scene, that immediately makes the movie a c
Yes Jeremy, describe the climax on the film and give me specific details about it, thank you.
Um he just said the focus on Del Torro, and the movie has been out for a weekend so if you wanted to see it you wouldve
Eh, what? It's a review. The whole reason why reviews were invented is to inform you to either watch a film or not.
+G.Paul De Jesus He didn't spoiled anything. He just said that the last act focuses more on Benicio's character. But you don't know why.
#Suckario.
Spoilers:
Emily Blunt looks stupid and confused.
Jasper Sitwell eats rice and beans.
Two hours later...Emily Blunt looks stupid and confused.
Is it just me or does anyone else just love how Jeremy "grades" the movies on his channel
I don't know if this was how the director intended but hey, it's just a guess :D
P.S. sorry for some wrong choice of words, not really a good English speaker.
I feel ya, Mr. Jahns. Some movies are just so well done, you can't help but praise them, yet somehow lack that extra something that makes you want to EVER see it again.
How does that work? How can that be? Sometimes shit just be funny like that.
Jeremy, I really think you should review Narcos! Also, congrats on almost reaching 900,000 subscribers. Good luck on reaching 1,000,000 :D
I’ve seen this movie like 10 times now and I still don’t get tired of watching 😥 why more movies not like this
Jeremy, I think you missed the all point of the movie: Emily is not the hero and she never was.
Sicario is currently my 4th favorite film of 2015. I hope to start filming my review of it after I get off work today.
Nailed it perfectly! Those films that are just awesome but wouldn't want to see it again. but still may...
great video. I'm also hoping to see you on Movie Fights and an actual Collider Movie Talk someday.
+Josh Pesek He has been on both. But for the latter, it was back when it was called AMC Movie Talk.
he was on Collider. it was a video with John Campea and Mark Ellis about the pros and cons on Internet film criticism. pretty lengthy but worth checking out
+The Leaker yeah but again because he has only been on their twice
Jeremy.... I have watched this movie about 6 times since its DVD release. each time, I find new hints to what's gona go down. Love it to bits. Though based on what your critique states.... The best movies are the ones you only watch now and again, because, they are so memorable???
Uh... I'm not related to that Del Toro guy...
You should have a biographical movie made about you starring Benicio Del Toro and directed by Guillermo Del Toro.
But you are the Del Toro guy too.
+Ricardo del toro
'You're his son. And it's your bed to lie in, too.'
-*Way* *of* *the* *Gun* starring Benicio del Toro
This movie was great, just go in thinking: Traffic pt 2
It wasn't slow or boring, it isn't an action flick.. I enjoyed the movie thoroughly, I'd say: Buy it on Blu Ray. Great acting, suspenseful & good plot.
The only let down, imo? Is The woman, and how she walks around like she runs everything & being demanding, but they turn it around nicely. So even that, it's great.
Dude.... i LOVED that character focus misdirection! My mind was BLOWN!
You finally updates your 'good time no alcohol required' sequence!
Hey Jeremy! What do you use for editing your videos and green screen?
I hope you don't get tired of making these reviews! Best reviewer i saw :) Keep it up Jeremy!
Just saw Sicario for the second time a year later, still as tense as the first time i saw it. It's as awesometacular as they come
I would like to address your complaint, Jeremy.
And given the quality of this film I think it deserves to be bought on BR.
