  • For this episode of VICE Talks Film, we sit down with Oscar-winner Benicio Del Toro to discuss his latest film, the atmospheric, morally complex drug-trade thriller 'Sicario.' The film follows a young FBI agent (Emily Blunt) who is enlisted in a secret CIA task force, along with Del Toro's ominous character Alejandro, to eliminate a Mexican cartel boss.
    Del Toro also shares his perspective on America's war on drugs, the hurdles of being a minority actor in Hollywood and how eating 16 donuts a day prepared him for his legendary role in 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.'
    Sicario is still in theaters around the country and this interview contains minor plot spoilers.

    Benicio Del Toro made Sicario amazing. It was great, but it wouldn't be half as good with anyone else but him as Alejandro.

      just imagine sicario 2 now how much better it will be with him and brolin as the focus of the film instead of blunt. Not that she is horrible actress but next to those two guys she holds no candle to a commanding presence on screen.

    • @RohannvanRensburg
      @RohannvanRensburg 6 років тому +39

      But the whole point of the film was the contrast between her and the commanding presence of borderline-sociopathic alpha males. I'm worried it won't stand up to the first.

    How is he underrated? He is an oscar winner. He will probably get nominated here. Leonardo DiCaprio should have oscars falling out of pockets and he has 0.

    • @themuslimatheist7578
      @themuslimatheist7578 8 років тому +10

      The reason why Leonardo doesn't have oscars is, in every year he was nominated, there was a better performance that year. Leo is a great actor, but unlucky when it comes to oscars, while this man is talented but unlucky everywhere else.

    • @superrmrcool
      @superrmrcool 8 років тому +1

      +kulyon I feel like Leo has the same attitude or mindset when it comes to Oscars now, just like the way Joaquin Phoenix doesn't give two shits about Oscars or award shows

    • @cactaceous
      @cactaceous 8 років тому +4

      Leonardo DiCaprio is an incredibly overrated actor with a very very small range. He does not inhabit his characters, he simply reacts with a few techniques but he is always himself. Yelling, pointing at things to convey authoritative positions and raising and lowering eyebrows are not the marks of an actor that should have Oscars, let alone have them falling out of his pockets. Overrated. Fully.

    • @smoothcriminal28
      @smoothcriminal28 8 років тому

      +cactaceous You nailed it bud. Dicaprio is good, but has never reached greatness. And for the record, he went full retarde in Gilbert's Grapes so that doesn't count.

    Just seen this brilliant film tonight. It was truly amazing. I am born and raised in Tucson Arizona. And to see the film's storyline take place in Nogales Sonora Phoenix and Tucson is mind blowing and right on point. The plot is shocking and sobering the cast was amazing. I really enjoyed this masterpiece.

    I think Sicario was one of the most accurate depictions of the drug war between the U.S. and Mexico. The altercation crossing the border and what the cartel's foot soldiers look like and how they would act if the gunfight was real. Overall, there was just a real genuine feeling about this movie. Not to mention, the musical score absolutely intensified the emotional tempo of the movie.

    I can see him playing Pedro Del Valle. He commanded the 1st Marine Division during the battle for Okinawa during World War II. He retired from the United States Marine Corps as a lieutenant General. Like Benicio Del Toro he's from Puerto Rico as well. He was Chesty Puller's immediate superior during the battle for Guadalcanal in 1942.

    The bridge scene was probably my favorite scene in the whole movie. I originally didn't want to see the trailer cause you can always tell how the story is being told, but with Sicarios trailer, it did a complete 180 lol. Totally didn't expect the story to go how it did, I would love it if they did like a prequel on how Alejandro got involved in bring back Medellin.

    I'm late with this, i hope this gets back to Benicio. When i watch films i tend to feel what characters are feeling within that world. When i watch Benicio in that world, I cried from his world because i think something of his character lives in every father. We are mortal, we love our children our wives,our family. To get to the point that Benicio gets to in the film is not something to be proud of, we are human and years of memories, it hurts. Even animals feel the pain of loss. This is a dark, soulful, spiritual and deeply felt work of art. I think good and evil are on constant ends of a universal scale and our lives are where we discover which side we gravitate towards. At the end of our lives hopefully our deeds reveal our truest self.
